I wonder how well the new stand-alone DACs will measure up to the internal DACs used in the upcoming XSP-1 and XMC-1?
The internal DAC of the XSP-1 is supposed to be pretty good. At one time I heard it said that the XSP-1 will kill the market for the XDA. Not sure if we will truly know that for sure until we get some production units for comparison.

The XSP will have a built-in DAC? I thought it was just analog. Where did you hear that?

The XSP-1 doesn't have a DAC. It's a pure analog product. Did you mean the XMC-1?

I must have got the MC confused with the SP. Sorry for the mixup.

I must have got the MC confused with the SP. Sorry for the mixup. Careful, them mixups can cause an all out brawl! ;D I would imagine that the XDA-2 will have high res USB, losseless volume and resolution readout, and jitter free.

I think that Lonnie suggested that the sq went XSP XDA-1 XMC-1
Now, that might have changed and or there might not be a tangible difference between XDA-1 and XMC-1.
But I'd assume that the 2 would have to be at least as good as the 1, and probably on par with the XSP, so that you can have ultimate 2 channel audio.
It seems that with a DAC, if you can go for pure transparency you've won.

I feel like I'm painted into a corner with the XMC-1. I seem unable to be decisive about getting the XSP-1 or the XDA-2 without first knowing what the XMC-1 has to offer.

I can completely understand and sympathize with that.It would be nice to know what the new sound quality rankings will be with all of the new products but even then I guess it will take some actual hands on use and comparisons to establish just how much of an advantage one might have over another. The good thing is that with them all being new products we don't have to worry about getting them before they are gone so there is time to wait and evaluate. Now living with that itch while we wait to find out is something else. ;D

As their flagship two channel preamp, the XSP has to sound better than the XMC with music. Same goes for the XDA-2. If they don't, then something is wrong and they need to go back to the drawing board. I'm sure the XMC will sound good, but the XDA-2 and XSP have to sound better in order to succeed. Especially the XSP, since Emo targets their preamps for the Emo pre/pro owners that want to improve their two channel music SQ.

However, like most things in audio, there are hardly any night & day differences. So, the question will be; How much better, and will they worth the extra costs? ;D

Exactly! There are plenty of UMC owners that don't think the USP is worth buying because the UMC sounds good enough on it's own. But there are just as many UMC owners that can't live without the USP and think it's worth every penny. I would imagine that's how it's going to be with the XMC and XSP, along with the XDA-2.

I am curious to learn how the XDA-2 and the Pro DAC differ. Is the Pro version going to be geared to dovetail with the Airmotiv Speakers? ...or will it also contain analog inputs to help it serve as a switching device for an Airmotiv based system? Any thoughts?

Any thoughts? I was not even aware that there was a Pro DAC in the offering. I'm thinking that it would have to serve also as a switching device for the professional audio installers as well
