being a huge R. Scott fan plus loving the alien movies; went and saw PROMETHEUS last night and it didnt disappoint..
i was very glad my local theater offered it in 2d DLP in addition to 3d. however im still not a fan of the movie experience these days.. cost is outrageous.
being a collector and a fan ill be purchasing when its released. any of you guys see it, what were your thoughts ?

I have not yet sen this film, but I had heard that originally, it was being written to become part of the Alien series of films, so I expect that fans of the Alien series should love it. Embarrassingly, I have to admit to not having seen any of the Alien films.

you can see without having seen the original series.. theres interesting bits that i picked up being so familiar with the others that point to those films. i think this is a bit ahead of the series in time and shows the beginning of the creation of the species and how its evolving the human element of that evolution is ironic and interesting in itself... sure theres questions still, almost as if they left room between this one and the series for a couple more films...
you like you like sci-fi you should check it out, its visually stunning and i imagine when released it will be a LFE standard. like all films of the genre its has funny moments, incredible machinery and some gore...
i have my take on the movie and its story line but ill have for those who have seen it..

Just don't buy the popcorn and a soda!
On the movie - we hope to see it as a family soon. We loved the Alien movies and sci-fi in general. And regardless of whether we get to a theater, I KNOW this will be in our BluRay collection.

Honestly I went with 5 other people and none of us cared for it, way too slowly paced. I did however rent Alien the next night as I havent seen it in 16 yrs or so and I can tell you I wish I would have revisited this film before I went as I think it would have been a better experience.

I really enjoyed the first 3/4's, but the last half hour was poorly done. The cinematography was outstanding for the first 30 minutes!

Without too many spoilers, is this a proper prequel to Alien?

Without too many spoilers, is this a proper prequel to Alien? define proper.. i think so, it shows the beginning stages of the creation of the "Alien" species, which is ironic in itself because which with out giving to much away wasnt the propose of the plot but maybe the purpose of the movie. i really enjoyed it and will be buying it.. i think it could the beginning of prequels, but maybe not...

Without too many spoilers, is this a proper prequel to Alien? No. It is not a prequel. It exists in the same universe as Alien and has some Alien-esque creatures in it based on H. R. Giger's original ideas. If you see this thinking it will be a prequel, you'll be in for a long 2 hours and 4 minutes.

I'm so excited to see this movie, I told my wife we are going to the movies Friday, she rolled her eyes when i told her the name I had to skip right to the bottom of the page just so I didn't spoil anything. I remember seeing aliens in the theater when I was eight, ever since then I've been hooked on the aliens franchise and sci fi in general. I only saw the one trailer so I don't ruin to much of it.

Amazon.com or .ca?
I'm going to see it again as well. I really enjoyed it although could pick out a spot or two where it could have had smoother plot development. It seems like the decsion to cut it down somewhat might have given mixed results. I'd say it had enough connections to Alien to fit in as a prequel, but obviously YMMV. I will wait for the director's cut Blu ray.

It was on Amazon.com. They had some good prices on several sets last week.
