Thanks for the comparison. Could you also add the number of rack units that the amps take up. I have seen some discrepancies, eg...
MPS-2
TOP: "Other MPS-2 features include balanced inputs (XLR) for a lower noise floor and high ground loop immunity, remote trigger terminals, auto turn on, soft start circuitry and milled aluminum rack ears for professional installations (the MPS-2 is a 5RU chassis). "
BOTTOM of page: "4RU chassis with floating multi-element, milled aluminum faceplate. Indirect cobalt blue illumination of all controls and main panel"
I may post this as a separate topic, but I was hoping you could add it.
Thanks.

Thanks. How much space above it (in RU's) would you suggest (if any) for ventilation. I have 4 fans at the top of my 37 RU M.A. rack with a temperature sensor in case things get too hot. But, I was wondering if additional space above the amp is needed.
Thanks.

In most racks that I do I usually allow simply just 1ru. Since your doing active ventilation I suggest doing all solid blank panels to seal up the rack as much as possible, and not perforated like I have on my 35 unit rack. But again its up to you, I always do 1, but if you feel 2 is a bit more needed, then thats cool too.

I have created a PDF for comparing the amplifiers Emotiva produces. You can find it here: Amplifier ComparisonI think the document is very accurate at this point, but Lonnie will be looking over it when he gets a chance to assure its accuracy. All diminsion measurements were taken by actual users of the products (myself included), so these numbers may disagree with the manuals/product page, but I feel are more true to life for those trying to fit gear in tight places. [Best Borat Voice] Very nice! [/Best Borat Voice] Thanks Doug

I have no experience with H class amps, but would expect it is less than the XPA A/B class or my Denon receiver. Has anyone measured the heat output. I know there are separate computer kits and devices for measuring with probes or by IR for heat. That might be another nice specification to have - heat output (open/enclosed) at a certain wattage, duration, etc. Mike

The MPS-1 I own puts out very little heat. Even after a long movie at loud volumes, the amp remains cool to the touch.

I know there are a lot of new products coming out including pre-pros. Are there any new 7channel amps coming out. Thanks, Mike

They announced a UPA-7, which is the successor to the LPA-1. I don't recall hearing anything about a 7 channel XPA series. But you could mix the XPA-2 and XPA-5 and still be under the competitions price. Of course there's the MPS-2 which is currently out of stock, but I think there is more on the way.

Since I will have my Denon 5308CI at 150W/ch x7 I would probably go for more power (I realize that it is not a separate and the lack of a major difference in 25-50 W in appreciable loudness differences). I think the UPS-7 is 125 W/ch x7 correct? I think the MPS-2 ($1700) 200W/ch x7 class H would be best. The combo of XPA-2 plus XPA-5 is intriguing ($1600) with 250W/ch x2 and 200W/ch x5 but that's a lot of amp. That is -- 145 pounds and 7.75" each at 1.75"/1RU = 5 RU each for 10 RU total. That's over 1/4 of my total rack space (37RU in a Middle Atlantic WR-37-32). The MPS-2 is 5RU. I'm also wondering if the Class H would be better for the heating efficiency. All good stuff to mull over for a while. Thanks. Mike

12 units if you count each blank on top of each amp for space. Additionally neither of them come with rackmount hardware which means, you'll have to use a rack shelf, or a shelf with a custom faceplate.
I have the IPS-1 rackmounted and it puts out very little heat, if anything the MMC-1 puts out a bit more. The MPS-2 sounds a bit more matched for you as far as space saving, power, and number of channels.

I searched "Emotiva", "MPS-2" and "XPA" at: repnet.middleatlantic.com/RSH/mainRSH.aspand didn't find any Middle Atlantic RSH custom rackmounts there for relevant Emotiva products. I also didn't find one for my Denon 5308CI receiver. I would (and have) encouraged manufacturers to send a copy to MA to measure for the RSH shelves. A 4 week return time for a company doesn't matter, but it often does for an end consumer. Emotiva isn't unique in this. I just wish everyone did this earlier rather than later. That info is here: www.middleatlantic.com/rsh/rshprog.htmI'm not a rep for M.A. or anything. Here is my rack: www.middleatlantic.com/enclosure/roll/wr.htmThanks. Mike

Hey Mike, yes I was aware of that. I highly doubted that Middle Atlantic already had a cutout for Emotiva gear, you either have to provide the exact dimensions or better ship the equipment to them. It would make a better fit, but if your like me I would not want to be without my gear From what I have asked from Dann and others the entire XPA line will not have rackmount ears, the MPS's do. The IPS-1 did, MMC-1 does, UMC-1 will not, XMC-1 will. Oh btw that is a nice rack, make sure you take pictures when you start to put it together.

I have my Oppo and a cheap Sony receiver in it now. I'm getting my Surge-X SEQ and a Furman UPS this week. Then I'll add in my 5308CI (heavy, so waiting until everything is connected before I add it). I have RSH shelves for Oppo (in place), XBOX360 and a SA8300 cable box. I'll try to take some more photos when it's nicer looking. Mike [/img] Hmm...didn't work. How do I add photos?

I dont believe you can upload them on this website, so use some other website (photobucket for example), copy that url and insert the image in between the img brackets.
