Mark I am just north of Evansville close to I-64 about 45 minutes from Santa Claus. Purdue is a great college and I get to Lafayette a good deal. We used to have a cottage on the Lake Dewart near Warsaw. My wife is originally from Winimac I am sure you have heard of that place. I am originally from Chicago but it seems Indiana has accepted me I can even turn you on to a proper sub or two for the Maggies Hope to meet you some time...although if you are going to Emofest I will meet you there.

savjac...wow...I lived on Dewart year round until I was ~12! (That's my "near Warsaw"!) I am indeed going to Emofest...see you there! I'd love to hear where you cottage was. Over the years we had 4 different houses around the lake + my Grandparents house, all of which my Dad built. And yes - know Winimac, too!

I do not remember the address as I have not been there in years, but I used to be on the south side, next to the Mock family. I think my cousin, Bill Kausal still lives there in a home that was about 2 houses from where I stayed. I loved it on that lake. My grandparents also had a house there, Van Vlymen, my moms parents.

I hope you are as happy with your 1.7s as I am with my 1.6QRs. Mine are fully Gunned, and this last weekend, I upgraded the external cross-overs with Jupiter and Mundorf capacitors. This opened them up quite a bit. I'm driving them with XPA-1s and to quote my son, "I can see why you spend so much time listening to music." Maggies aren't for everyone, but those of us who like detail, they can't be beat. Good luck to you and enjoy the music.

The Maggies have arrived and are in the back of my Suburban! Of course, tonight is the night I get to go w/my kids to meet their teachers for the year, so I won't get to uncrate them until ~8:30 tonight. But...I WILL be doing that!
And, being a "banner day" for deliveries, my binding posts and the smoked glass windows for my nCore amps I am building also arrived today. When it rains, it pours... But, testing out the Maggies will be job #1 after my kids' open house at school. The amps can wait given I don't have the internal "guts" yet on those (But I do so want to finish the cases ASAP!!!)

Mark - Are you going to let your kids education get in the way of hooking up your new speakers? Where are your priorities?

Mark, Congrats on finally receiving your new Maggies. You better stay up late uncrating and setting them up. Tomorrow is my 41st Wedding Anniversary and I know you wouldn't think of puttzing with your new toys on my "special" day. God rewarding me with my soul-mate was the best gift I have ever received. I am going to "Re-Up" for an additional 41 years. You may just have to wait until you return from Emofest to setup your new Maggies. ;D See you on Friday in Franklin

Well, the great news is that I had a good time meeting my kids' new teachers for the year, and that the Maggies came in and sound GREAT.
With minimal fussing with the setup, the sound is amazing. High end clarity is fantastic, the bass is super-strong, and my room does not seem too touchy. I experimented with various speaker positions and they all sound better than what I had. Dire Straights CD "Love Over Gold" never sounded better. Miles Davis "Kind of Blue"...same story. Radiohead "Rainbows"...same deal... Love the sound.
Now the downside...I had to send my dealer this e-mail:
Mildly irritated...we'll see what I hear back tomorrow. Recall, the dealer already knows I am not happy after waiting 5 weeks from a "they'll be here in 2-3 week" quote & a failure of the dealer to stay on top of the issee - and that already got me 10% off. I certainly won't ask for any more discount...unless they want me to do the "usual" of bring them back, wait for them to ship them back, and wait for new ones to arrive.
Meanwhile, I will just enjoy what I have...and be careful adjusting their position due to the 1 leg with only 1 bolt in it!

Yeah - I almost thought that the right thing for me to do was to come onto the Lounge and vent rage against the UMC-1 for causing this issue (clearly, it MUST be the cause...right?), but I thought for a second...I thought, "wait...Ed Porscheguy would remind me I should contact the dealer/MFG-er" so I held back and vented (mildly) to the right people.
See Ed...you are having a positive affect on us for your "CALL EMO" posts (which I love...keep them up! If you didn't do them, I would have to!!!).

Hmm, this definitely sounds like a UMC-1 issue. I think you should reload the firmware. The pain I tells ya! In all seriousness, there's nothing like waiting for brand new and expensive gear only to discover damage during shipping (or in this case, straight from the factory). That, my friend, is the definition of frustration. I was hoping for a fairy tale ending here considering all you've gone through. This is just insult to injury, salt to the wound, lemon juice to the eyes... At least you can still listen to 'em, and as far as I can tell, your first impressions seem to be positive. Hope everything works out and you can get replacements quickly. Keep us updated.

A few helpful suggestions as a fellow 1.7 owner: 1) Just call Magnepan directly, they are nearly as responsive on the phone as Emotiva. 2) You will want to get your panels a few feet (min 3') from the walls for the best results. 3) Run REW and see how the room is echoing -- you'll likely need absorption panels. 4) You'll probably need foam bass traps in the corners as well: www.thefoamfactory.com/5) Think about putting QRD type diffusers directly behind the maggies right on the wall. You need to treat your room to make them sound like they should.
