I'd guess Atmos on a future Emotiva processor depends on how quickly Momentum Data Systems can get their DSP module updated. A search for "atmos" at mds.com turned up nada. Good point ; will be interesting to see when the datasat rs20.1 finally gets dolby atmos as they use Momentum as well . Similar dynamic at play here as Cineramax points out in this rs20.1 thread I didn't know that Datasat uses Momentum as well. That's interesting.

DataSat and a lot of other makers will really have to step up their game if Emotiva releases the RMC-1 in 2015-Q1 with 11.2 Dirac and full HDMI 2.0 and Atmos support. If they time it right, Emo could make a lot of money on it. (Heck even without Dirac at all, or just Dirac on 7.X of the 11.X channels)

I was reminded by an e-mail today from Audioholics with a link to this article why I've decided to pass on the XMC-1. Hopefully the RMC will offer some variation of Atmos object based calibration and HDMI 2.0. If not, or if Emo takes too long to release the RMC, I will look elsewhere. According to the linked article, D&M announced that A/V receivers from both Denon and Marantz will have Dolby Atmos, as have Yamaha, Onkyo/Integra, and Pioneer. Dirac is good, but I suspect that Atmos will be much better.

Dirac is good, but Atmos is going to revolutionize the process. Wait.. what process? The room correction process?

Not just room correction, but how sound is directed to your speakers and to our ears.

Ah ok.. the way you said that made me think you were referencing them as competing products that do something similar. I plan to implement Atmos speakers, but I want the XMC-1 and it can hold me over until its clear what content we will have for Atmos and how Emotiva might implement it in the XMC or RMC. I want to be able to do a 9.1.4 setup with both wides and ceiling speakers with the RMC. Hopefully the RMC will be a fully balanced 13.1 channel, Dirac, Atmos (and Auro?), HDMI 2.0 switching beast!

I don't have $1900 to gamble on the XMC1. The flurry of announcements from other manufacturers about Atmos combined with the xmc1's lack of HDMI 2.0 has put me in an anxious holding pattern.

View AttachmentI feel this deserves it's own thread. This old rendering maybe a tentative, but hey! "The Reference pre/pro was not present, but it will include more than 7 channels, likely 9.3; will include TI-based processor, and be $2500-$3000." And: "RMC-1: 9.3 processor. $2,500-$3,000. All out assault. Will compete with anything up to 20k." ETA: "Lonie mentioned possibly Summer 2013" Those are the "facts". And I want one because it will make my XPR-5 really happy. ;D Even in 2012, there were 3 sub outputs projected...

I really hope that Emotiva becomes a MQA partner. More and more companies are jumping on board. Nad is now adding it. And lots of hirez music is being done in mqa now.

Summer 2013? Ah yes...that’s when I had hair lol. Holy crap! How long has the RMC-1 been in development? If memory serves, we were originally "told" "promised" "what have you" that it would be available sometime in 2016. Because when the "coming in 2017" thread got started a few people were already disappointed. I actually speculated in that thread it would be at least 2018 and of course that didn't get "liked" by anyone. Now it's 2018 and it appears it won't be until May best case. So the answer is, quite some time.

If Emotiva was guilty of anything, it was probably not understanding just how big the project was when they started. As I understand it, there are really only a couple of big companies doing most of the processors in the world with a lot of rebranding. And I'll bet those companies have staffs of hundreds of engineers. Doing a processor is just a stupidly hard task what with all the constantly changing formats, etc. In contrast, an amplifier is crazy simple.
My hope is that with the new RMC1/XMC-1(Gen3) — still an annoying name — they now have a fairly stable shared platform to work with which can serve as a base for future incremental support instead of having to "boil the ocean" each time around.
