The Hunger Games - 1 of 5 stars -
Let’s see, how can I say this so my meaning isn’t lost or misconstrued - I think I’ve got it! This movie just suuuuuuuuuuuuuucks!
Isn’t it funny how some of the best books and short stories become some of the worst movies? Remember William Gibson’s short story “Johnny Mnemonic?” It was one of the best short stories ever written. Then remember the movie of the same name starring Keanu Reeves? Ouch!
I can’t speak to how “Hunger Games” the book rates, but I can say that the movie just didn’t work. Your opinions may differ…

I agree that Somme of the best books can be completely damaged and contorted when moving to the silver screen. That being said, this didn't start as "one of the best books" to begin with. It was a popular book... But no where near the best. I'd liken it to McDonalds. Fast food reading. An ok story fed to the reader in a very easy to consume package, perfect for getting teens to bite into and read. Just read and enjoy... Don't think. And along those lines I think that it is great. I love hearing that books are popular and seeing people reading them in this increasingly A.D.D. World

Yup, I spent $25.00 :-( on it and I must say it wasn't that good. I'll be generous, 2 1/2 stars..

Man am I glad I did not waste my money on this movie. I trust the opinions of the other members of this forum so I will disregard this movie and subsequent parts to be released.

While I don't think that movie is that good, I did enjoy going to see it and being part of the first couple weekends. It was a spectacle and I'll probably go see the next two.
It's certainly netflix worthy.

I agree with the others: the movie sucked big time! Such an interesting story, and such a poor job in putting it on the screen. Even my 14 year old niece disliked it.

I didn't read the book and the movie was forced on me as a family night movie with my wife and kids. My wife and son have read the book and were disappointed (so OK...they are the types who read every book that ends up being a movie and to them - the book is always better). After we watched, my wife told me some of the parts she felt the book did so much better and I could see her points.
Also, I didn't hear of or read of the hype, so my expectations were low.
Net overall, I thought it was a decent movie...it had some really stupid parts, some parts I really liked, and hey...I love anything with Woody in it. That guy is a nut.
Would I rather have re-watched Animal House or Blazing Saddles or Young Frankenstein for the 10,000th time? Hell yes...but, it was OK.

Mark Oh! - but don't forget "Monty Python and the Holy Grail"! ;D (One of my all time favorites!).As to the "Hunger Games", due to 'family pressure', I did pick up a "Like New" copy of the Blu-ray on eBay for $15 (including shipping), so I'm not out a ton if its as bad as reported...we'll see... I'll report on the forum's "What Blu-ray did you watch last night" thread once watched.

I think the book was decent, at least the first one anyway, but the movie for me missed the feeling of the book. It had so much missing, what I thought was important information that I almost do not know how folks that have not read the book kept up. The disc looked and sounded very good but without a movie attached makes this a rental only.

Saw it with my daughter in the theater. I think I fall into the same bracket as Mark. I did not read the book, had no preconceived notions about the movie and some of the wackiness was entertaining. Neither a five out of five for me nor a 1 out of five so I will give it three stars. Two for the entertainment value and I have to give it at least one extra for the time spent with my daughter.
