The power of progress I keep marvelling at the things an ordinary person like me is capable of doing that we couldn't do before. Currently I am able to make one take music videos with ease. They record high quality stereo audio from stereo microphones. I even have cheap lamps I use as "stage lights". The videos are 1080p high definition running at 60 frames per second creating enormous files that would have been unheard of for consumers only a short while ago. For instance so far for this month of August I have 23 GB of 60 frames per second video. I am able to store this thanks to a reasonably priced 8 terabyte hard drive. Geez wasn't that long ago that I had a 1.2 gigabyte hard drive. My friend purchased a 2 Gigabyte and I thought, why on EARTH would you need so much space?
But the potential of massive storage is clear in instances like this. A huge amount of data can be archived and that can come in very handy when you are trying to create something.
If I wished to I could upload this to a FREE high definition video site that will stream my videos real time to anybody across the world. Did I mention "free"?! Yes I'm talking about Youtube. And I wouldn't even be exploiting that free site's capabilities in the least. Currently it offers option for 8 k 60 fps video streaming - for FREE.
Through use of social media, my wife caught up with a friend from high school and setup a jam session. So now our "band" is three! Lol. Also the convenience factor has gone way way up. The time it took me to setup that kind of recording was just in the order of a few minutes. Most of it had to do with making sure my phone was angled correctly. After the setup, each recording happened quickly and spontaneously with the press of a button with no real delay.
Prep work is also easier. We figured out the chords to any songs that we were interested in from the internet (and this was free). All the lyrics were there right in front of us. When we weren't familiar with a song we asked Amazon Alexa to play it for us using our voice.
Before I would have to go to a music shop. Purchase a book - all that would have say three songs I would have been interested in. And we would have to sit close to the book. Now my screen is big enough that we can sit far back and still see the chords to play. If we weren't familiar with a song, a friend would have to bring over a cassette or record and listen to it.
After we recorded the songs, we watched them back on the same screen we used for the chords. We heard the record back in stereo in the same place we recorded. So we were able to tell how close we got to recording it because we were sitting in the original recording venue.
Now tell me how easy any of that would have been to do for a regular guy in the 80's?

Technology marches on. By the time you're my age, the kids will be able to put on a set of dermatrodes and play back each other's experiences as if they inhabited each other's bodies. And the entertainment stars, (playing on "Sense-Net") will be edited so that if the performer gets a headache, you won't even feel it. I wonder what it feels like to play cello as Yo-Yo Ma?

After having a recent neck and back injury, I realized I'm listening less critically to my stereo system. And the reason is that I can't sit in the "sweet spot" without hurting that side of my body some. It's just no longer comfortable.
However I have increased my headphone listening. I recline, pull up my Kindle e-reader, and listen to some music. It makes me wonder if it makes sense for my future upgrades to be in the headphone arena. A nice Sennheisser HD800 and Emotiva's upcoming balanced amp connected to the Schiit Ygdrassil seems to be a very nice choice. I've also been interested in listening to the Audeze and Hifi man gear.

I’ve been doing a bit of LATE evening listening myself, Ipad in hand, and have been looking at the same questions except I’m pretty sure my Brooklyn will satisfy my needs. If your looking at Sennheiser HD800 then why not the HD800S or some new off offerings in the works. I’m not sure if its Roon or the Brooklyn thats offering custom settings and presets for the Audeze headphones but its there. Massdrop just had some HiFiman HE4XX Planer Magnetic Headphones for $169.00. Edit; no doubt you’ve seen me asking for details about that Classe A HP Amp 😁🤞

Hi garbulky - By "liking" this post, I'm NOT liking your injury, only that you've found a way to work around it and still enjoy music. If the time comes that you want to "de-foam" your living room, give me a chance to buy it first! Also, should you go Yggy, may I borrow it to hear in my system? Thanks - Boom

LOL Sure would be good for you to give a listen to the Brooklyn my friends, before the trying the Yggy with its 15 day return period. I’m sure its an outstanding DAC but no reason to have doubts.

Thanks - Boom Ah you guys, if I ever get the chance to upgrade it's going to be years in to the future. Perhaps five years. But one can dream right? There's a good chance though that I may be able to snag a used HD800 for a good price. If that's the case I may be able to jump in just a few years for the most important part - the transducer.

Any ukulele fans? I recently decided to try the new low g ukulele strings. Basically it replaces the high G which is the first string with a low G. This allows the lowest note to go from a c down to a G. And you know what, it does make a big difference.
I tried the Aquila Lava Red strings and the Aquila Lava strings. The Lava red strings have an unwound G string while the Lava strings G strings was wound. I would say I prefer the unwoudn G string of the Lava red that went nicely with my Tenor ukulele.
The Lava strings were gray in color with a white wound g. This went on my soprano ukulele.
They are both quite enjoyable and the playing style is quite a bit different especially if you are fingerpicking. I think the overalling resulting sound is less "jumping flea" and more "woody/warm" and more resonant in tone. A more full sounding instrument with unfortunately reduced treble. I like it overall.
My wife and I played a uke by a lake yesterday. She had a concert Cordoba ukulele with high g strings and I used my tenor ukulele with the lava red unwound low g. I think the resulting sound was very nice with my g string filling out the low end and providing differentiation of the two ukuleles.

BoomzillaWell I said I'd do it this weekend. I guess that took me all of a day before I hooked it up! DC-1 to EMOTIVA PA-1's hooked up fully balanced! Hooked up using these massive B'zilla made bi wire cables full range to Axiom m80 towers! Quarter and AA battery for scale!

Whoooo.... this sound is different. Without a doubt it's impressive. It's lightning fast. Only problem so far is that there is a treble lean to the signature. I have a sneaky feeling this sensation is going to go away. I have never heard my Axiom sound this way. ..... Very holographic. But I have to be careful that it's not just a treble bump or something. Either way it knows how to grab your attention! Keep in mind it's only been on for 10 minutes of playtime

novisnick I still can't get over the sheer speed of the PA-1. I feel like the treble emphasis has improved a bit. Jeez you guys. This is one enjoyable review. On one hand, it's clearly an impressive amp. It's doing things that I'd never heard before. On the other hand, well I'm going to hold back on that a bit. But the con currently is that it has a treble emphasis and a bit of shyness in the bass. But it's only been an hour or so. I have to believe that these instruments are close to being real. Currently it's just a bit shy due to the treble emphasis. But due to an improvement I will hold off judgment. Let me tell you some of the good things! One thing I've noticed is that the speed of this amp has allowed me to hear things like the quality of actual recording microphones. Also I'm able to tell the pitch of the singers much easier. I was able to hear some singers sing slightly flat on songs before catching the pitch I've played many times. The speed also provides some seriously good ambient portrayal of detail retrieval. The sound has tons of air in it. One thing I can tell you already is that it is beating the pants off the Crown XLS series which is nowhere near its competition. As for the bass - the bass that's there is very quick with tone and all that. But currently there just isn't the level that I'm used to with the XPA-1 gen 2. I'm also lacking a certain level of impact and fullness in the bass as well as a certain level of warmth. Compared to the XPA-1 gen 2 the best amp I've heard...ummm, well that's easy. The PA-1 is clearly....ah-ha! Had you guys going eh? No that's going to have to wait.

Gar - Consider putting some spacers between the two amps. Even though they run cool, the bottom one isn't getting much ventilation...
