Gar, have you seen the new "retuned" version of the HD800S offered by Drop? They claim to have more balance in the upper midrange and sub-bass that extends to 10hz. Drop HD 8XXCheers! Chuck

Oh God, cwmcobra - You're a TROUBLEMAKER! Mrs. garbulky will be watching for you... LOL Yeah, I've been called the "T-word" before. Hopefully, Michigan is far enough away from Louisiana that I won't have to worry about reprisal!

I loved this. Tried to buy a CD from Amazon and tried also from the actual "Voices of Music" website - No dice. I don't think anyone offers high quality audio of this performance. If you know of how I might get a copy, garbulky, please let me know. Thanks - Boomzilla

Garbulky’s journey: a 180 degree turn! It’s been awhile so I thought I would give you an update. I have taken a substantial change in my thinking. I thought my way to audio satisfaction was about using high quality separate components that were preferably dual mono. I had things setup just the way I liked it. Living room with Axiom M80 towers, XPA-1 gen 2 monoblocks, DC-1 via BNC connection, plus room treatments. Headphones: The Sennheser HD800S powered by emotiva A-100 coupled with two analog eq’s. I had fiddled with things to my heart's content and I was quite happy with the sound. I hadn’t heard another system that could convince me to switch and the few that matched it were more expensive. Then I was truly surprised. Portable technology has advanced substantially since the last time I evaluated the mass market. It has now caught up to audiophile standards. Enter the Ankher Liberty 3 ProI was floored when I started using the Ankher liberty 3 Pro earbuds. After adjusting the eq to “deep setting”, The sound quality was better than ever. The soundstage was great seamless 3d and precise. All individual instruments were positioned in their 3d soundstage and I could follow all the melody lines with no congestion at all no matter how small it was in the mix. Everything sounded very natural. The bass was full range with no compromises. I consider these slightly better than the HD800s and m80’s simply because of the improvement in soundstage. High praise imo. Powerful sound, powerful portabilityThe convenience was off the charts. It worked with all my devices. I could walk around the house, at work, on the go and still enjoy all of the quality. Now my entire audio system can be grasped in one hand. A benefit was also that the seal of the earbuds provided a substantial reduction in outside noise. I found myself wearing them all the time. It’s hard to understate what a gamechanger this is when it fits in every part of your lifestyle! My thinking had changed. My purist philosophies of separates, quality components, purist thinking was thrown completely out of the window. The Liberty 3 pros had No balanced components, cheap amplification, cheap drivers, cheap DACs, and even worse: lossy mp3 quality bluetooth transmission. Yet there’s no arguing, this is the best overall sound quality I have experienced - anywhere. And it cost me just $80. Last week, I bought the Ankher Liberty 4 Pro earbuds at $130. It too required the eq setting to be set to “deep” and a few days of loosening up to sound natural. The liberty 4 pros bought a slightly different sound signature sounding “bigger” with a bit more presence compared to the liberty 3 pros. It reminded me a lot of the Sennheiser HD800S. Compared to the 3 pros, it is less of a gamechanger upgrade than a preference thing for the sound signature and comfort. The biggest improvement I found was that the battery life was much longer on the liberty 4 pros and the noise reduction and comfort slightly better. Considering that the liberty 3 pro can be bought for just $80 and the Liberty 4 Pro can be bought for $130, the value proposition is nuts. We have arrived in a world where high quality sound can be achievable by everyone without breaking the bank. I had dabbled with bluetooth earbuds before and they were all sonic downgrades to my current setups. No longer. The current generation of earbuds have some remarkable stuff at cheap prices! Give it a try if you haven’t! You can't lose with these.
