You'll have to call emo tech to ask about that.
I'm guessing that they looked at lots of different ones before they picked the ones that are there. But few of use users are going to know the technical details.

Received my DC-1 today and have it hooked up via USB to my PC and XLR to my Airmotiv 4s. The difference over the motherboard DAC is absolutely stunning. There is a level of refinement here that did not exist with my XDA-1. Not to knock the XDA-1 as it is a fabulous DAC, but the DC-1 really does take it to the next level. Extremely happy with my purchase.

Some devices have sockets with op amps in them. The op amps are often pin compatible with other op amps and people will swap them out, like tube rolling.

Yesterday i got mail from the Swedish custom, my DC-1 is finally on it´s way home to me. It has been at custom office since 15 Aug ( not fast working there) and Emotiva sent it from US 2 Aug. A little more than a month??? There was some details missing about price and content in the parcel ( please Emotiva be more specific next time) according to customs,I mailed them twice the receipt the first mail they lost but the other they found after a week. It took them more than a week at the time to inform me about their mistakes. But that´s how it works when the government employes is doing business, they never have to think about profit and customer satisfaction. Everything must be declared either you like it or not it´s the law. But next week perhaps it will be in my rack and i can enjoy it, reading what people think of it makes me very curious.

Oh, one other note from my listening sessions. The DC-1's remote control sequences cross over with the XDA-1 control sequences. I found that I had to cover up my XDA-1 as various remote buttons on the DC-1 would do unrelated things on the XDA-1. Not really that big a deal, but I would hope that in the future, either actions would be completely separate, or they would do the same thing in both places. I don't remember what exactly it was, but it was a little shocking to see things change when I wasn't expecting it. I check out the actual change tonight.

I have by good source that final price on Gen 2 XPA-1 is $999.00

Day 2 notes of my DC-1 experience: 1. Music has a real meatiness to it. 2. Just the right amount of detail without feeling artificial. 3. Sounds incredibly analog for such a digital device. 4. Found myself wanting to listen to music nonstop for hours. 5. No noticeable listening fatigue. 6. Incredible air around instruments due to the deep blackness in silent spaces. In other words, extremely low noise floor coupled with great dynamic range.
That's all I got for now. Back to listening...

Not the first time this has happened with Emotiva products. I can see where having more than one DAC is rare in the same setup so they get a pass here. But I remember when this first happened with the USP-1 and the UMC-1 and they were designed to go together! That caused Emotiva to rush out a firmware and remote change at the last min. Hope they don't do that with the XMC and XSP. Beta testers beware.

So who is the DC-1's main competition here? The Cambridge Audio DacMagic Plus?

Bootman, the only listening I really do at my PC is via the Airmotivs. I have some B&W C5s that I use when I am traveling, but I haven't tried them on the DC-1 yet. Headphone use wasn't really a consideration when I bought the unit.
