I have only tested with each going into the XSP-1. But, I would say the X is as close to a straight line through as one can get if running XLR's (which is what I tested).
And, the DC-1 was better on soundstage (width, depth, and separation), clarity, and bass.

I wonder if it would make a difference if I replaced my XDA 1 with the DC1, using it with my ERC2 ? Sean, I will have one tomorrow if you want to borrow for some A/B testing sometime.

I never compared my ERC-2 through my XSP-1 vs. my ERC-2 through the DC-1 to the XSP-1...but I did compare my ERC-2 to my XSP-1 w/the ERC playing CD's vs. my DC-1 to my XSP-1 playing FLAC rips of the very same CD's. The DC-1 won for the same reasons I noted over the 105.

The ERC-3 is supposed to have the same DAC as the DC-1 right, wonder if they will sound similar then. Hey maybe they should change the name to EDC-3 then....

Just wait and grab the new ERC-3 when released before Xmas and a XSP-1, those with your XPR-1's would be killer setup man, one of the best you could put together through Emotiva I'm sure, or grab the XSP-1 now while it's in stock(lol) and the ERC-3 later. Chad Hi Chad, Do you know if it's true about the ERC-3? I like your thinking here! I want to run a balanced system so I think I'll get the XSP-1 now, but man the Pre-1 sounds really good but I know it's not balanced so I guess there is one for sale from me. What's your thoughts about price for the ERC-3? I do have an Oppo 103 and I plan on a Mac mini in the future, any guess as to the number of inputs for the DAC on the ERC-3? Do I need another CD player? Oug!! WHAT TO DO? Nick

HuH..no the ERC-3 is a CD player with the DAC from the DC-1 built into it, it might do SACD as well but can't remember exactly and I'm pretty sure there are no inputs, Mark knows more as he's a;ways on top of these things lol

I've not compared my dc-1 to an oppo 95 but I can say the dc-1 sounds better than my oppo 105. Mark Damn. This is surprising to hear. I have a 103 I use for my DAC and have been pining over the 105 due to its SQ. But the Stealth is even better than that? Hmm.

Sorry, I'm not trying to steer the thread in a different direction, but I'm curious what comparisons have been made by DC-1 owners to other DACs or similar equipment (like the Oppo 105). I've read through lots of pages and so far the only comparison I've found is the DC-1 to the Oppo 105. It would be great if users would add their comparisons to this thread.

I believe that there have been a few others. One of the DC-1 to XDA-1... don't know if there's one with the XDA-2 or not.

The DC-1 is pretty special It's biggest difference (vs the XDA-1) is The human voice - a sort of coherency/lack of thin-ness. Instrument placement, Better behaved treble (I would have never known it wasn't "behaved" if I hadn't compared it) Ability to play really loud while holding it together.

Tjhenry...at various places around the forum there are comparisons of the dc-1 to other dac's. Notably a shootout vs. Many others by jlafrenz. I will look for that link tonight.

One of the DC-1 to XDA-1... don't know if there's one with the XDA-2 or not. this is a quote from KeithL " I must say (to be honest) that I DID hear a "night and day" difference between the DC-1 and the XDA-2 .... (with the DC-1 coming out on top). but, of course, your results - and how you experience and prioritize them - may well vary considerably."

Would appreciate thoughts on some options I'm considering (for Magnepan 1.7, all music from Mac):
1) USP-1, Music Fidelity VDAC II (more flexible for upgrading DAC and other components in the future?) or 2) DC-1 (more direct?)

I've never heard the vdac. But if you get the DC-1, I think the USP-1 may be a limiter for it. This may help you emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/33501/garbulkys-review-love-female-voiceIn terms of upgrading from the XDA-1 I posted: "Let’s put it this way. I have the XDA-1 and use it with the UPA-2. I’ve used it with a passive pre-amp to get over the digital volume control. I used it with the USP-1 and an XPA-2. That right there is over a thousand dollars of equipment connected to it and it showed. The XPA-2 was really fast. The DC-1 connected just to the UPA-2 bought more of an improvement than using the USP-1 and XPA-2. That’s how good the DC-1 is. It’s the best sound I have heard yet. At $700 one has to get a bit critical. But it’s hard. Let’s just say it’s not perfection or the ultimate DAC. But it’s worth the money and I can see it’s real selling price at being around $1300. It’s better than the XDA-1 by a significant margin. I am PICKY about my sound. And right now the DC-1 is not leaving the system until it has to. I can’t say the same about other stuff that I liked. "
