I have not compared the HP out on the DC=1 with the HP out on the USP-1, but I did compare it to the onw on the XSP-1, and it was an immediate and obvious improvement in every way. Prior to that I had actually been using the HP out on the XSP-1 quite a bit, and found it to be just fine on my low impedance cans. However, as soon as I A/B'd it with the DC-1, I could tell within seconds the DC-1 headamp was was FAR superior. In fact, I liked it so much, it made me truly enjoy my Grado SR80i cans in a way I never thought I would. Prior to the DC-1, my Senn HD-598s had become my "go to" headphones. The DC-1 made my Grados become my "go to" headphones. FWIW. I know that is not the exact comparison you were looking for, and I don't know if the USP-1 and XSP-1 share the same headamp circuitry, but I thought I would toss this out here, if it can help in any way. Good luck! Painted: I personally find your input to be helpful in many ways, although I can't say I'm particularly surprised by the results you have described. I personally would be interested in a DC-1 vs XDA-2 face off as headphone amps...I could test both my self, but my XDA-2 is not rigged up yet, which is why I am asking if someone has tried a comparison... I also enjoy the HP amp in the DC-1 a lot, although I do not recall reading many professional reviews that dwell sufficiently on the HP amp capabilities of the DC-1 (as opposed to its capabilities as a DAC), so I do not know how it compares to other alternative HP amps at the price point of the DC-1... I am still looking though...

Has anyone compared the DC-1 headphone out to the USP-1 headphone out? I have compared both using the high impedance (hard to drive) senheisser hd600 (300 ohms). The DC-1 is significantly and audibly better. The DC-1's headphone amp is comparable to standalone entry level headphone amps like my $140-ish xenos 3HA. In some cases the headphone amp on the DC-1 was actually clearer.

Now if the DC-1 is on a level with my Schitt Asgard it will be a bonus.

Crap, my DC-1 is delayed in transit because of bad weather. Oh well, it gives me more time to think how I'll implement it and move other stuff around.

My first post on the forum.. Been a fan of the Emo gear for a little while now.. I bought the XSP and DC at the same time.. running them through the XPA5(bought the 5 with plans for a 5.1 system, just using it for stereo now).. when i first got them I noticed a decent improvement over the XPA1 and USP1 that i used before.. I had a pair of ERT 8.3's sitting in the closet since they didn't sound as well as my B&W's.. Had a PS3 sittin in the closet as well that i hadn't got around to setting up since i had recently moved.. I set it up and.. Well let me just say that the PS3 sounded like any other transport/player until i went to sound settings and set the stream to 176khz.. THEN POW/SLAM/WOW/WOW.. The sound blew me away.. I have never heard music at 176... I pulled the ERT's out of the closet for one last try before they went on craigslist and man are they singing like never before... Walking all over my B&W's in most every song i play.. I highly recommed using the DC at 176 whenever possible, the sound is just incredible and something like I've never heard.. Didn't really think that a system I ever owned would sound this good.. Can't stop listening.. in every track there is new territory, new dimension, new tones.. TOTALLY IMPRESSED!!!!!!!!!

Can DC-1 decode DSD music files? My DC-1 can play DSD64 and DSD128. However, it displays 96K on the panel.

No DSD.
Remember that source, not DC-1 determines rate (4.1, 48, 96, 192 etc)

Can DC-1 decode DSD music files? My DC-1 can play DSD64 and DSD128. However, it displays 96K on the panel. How are you playing the DSD? On a computer or a player? Either way what;s happening is tat the DSD is converted to 96khz PCM. So it's not "true" DSD decoding. But regular PCM decoding. I.e.: It is not bit perfect.

I don't believe sample rate is equivalent to bit depth (bit perfect). The first thing to understand is there are basically only two main sample frequencies: 44.1kHz and 48kHz. Everything else is a variant of one of those two numbers. 96kHz is a doubling of 48kHz, while 192kHz is again doubling that number. 88.2kHz and 176.4kHz are doubled numbers of the original CD standard of 44.1kHz. Thus the source is sending the DC-1 a PCM signal at 96kHz. The DC-1 does not take native DSD.

looks like the permanent price for the dc1 is now 499 Yes, and that is a far cry from the original price of $899!!! When the DC-1 made its debut at $899, I had actually written off the idea of ever buying one. Then, after a while, the price was lowered to $699, and now it has landed at $499. This new, permanent, lower price is a good thing IMO. It allows more people to get these in their hands, and allows Emo to remain competitive with other products on the market. I noticed the XDA-2 has a new lower price as well. It went from $399 to $269. Nice!!! That was win/win for all of us!

looks like the permanent price for the dc1 is now 499 I think that is kinda shady, had one price, then lowered it, then put it on sale for a lot less and everybody and their mother buys one, then leave the price low so the great value you thought you were getting is kinda diminished. My question is why the 300 price drop? Are they trying to flood the market and then dump a new better product like a tube DAC with a pre amp. Makes you wonder...... That just shows how much mark up is in this industry, there is still 4 to 5 times mark up even at the 499 price.
