I was hoping iTunes would now include improved hi-res music integration. It doesn't look like it has.
The other features are an improvement but nothing too exciting.
Dave.

Unless they've modified their database for better reliability, we're in for trouble...

iTunes 11 is available for Windows, too. Apple Software Update shows an available update for both my Windows PCs. I will install it later tonight.

Dave. 96/24 works, is that the limit? Or do you mean easier? Hi-res is relative, so compared to 256 bitrate I would have liked the iTunes Store to offer something better, at least equivalent to a CD. I would have upgraded my favourite albums, mostly those that were well recorded to begin with. Not everything I like is available on HD Tracks. Dave.

OK, yeah, I wish the iTunes Store would sell ALAC - and agreed HDTracks selection is limited.

Well yes, the interface has changed, but I'm not that much fonder of the current version than I was of the previous. I find it irritating to no longer have "cover flow" available (or have I just missed it?).
On the plus side, I've ripped over a hundred CDs today (about half in the morning with iTunes 10 and the other half this afternoon with iTunes 11) without a crash, data loss, or noticeable slow-down. I also see that the files are staying where they should within the folders. Whether this is due to the "clean install" of the operating system or to iTunes I don't yet know.
Another thing that I like is that iTunes 11 lets you review the format every time before ripping a disc. In the previous iTunes, I once ripped about 50 discs before I realized that the format was wrong. I had to re-rip every one of them!
On the minus side, I'm still wasting some time looking for how to do things that I already knew how to do in the old iTunes. I understand that this is unavoidable with an interface change, but at least the learning curve is easy.
The main thing that still bothers me about iTunes is that Apple seems to have wasted their development budget on the interface. If the program isn't stable, then the interface is academic. Even though some people have run iTunes for years without incident, there is a LARGE population of users, like myself, that have had repeated and serious problems with the program.
If Apple's done anything at all to improve the robustness of the iTunes 11 application, they're not sharing that information with their customers. I hope and pray that my iTunes problems are gone, but it's too soon to make a call one way or another.
Cheers - Boomzilla

it just wiped my whole catalog, leaving only albums I bought from the iTunes store. Needless to say, I'm NOT happy. Luckily, I have everything stored on a 4TB Netgear NAS but now I need a few days to copy it back over (87GB worth). Grrrrrrrr.....

Seriously, they got rid of being able to turn the grid view from light to dark, sucks when you don't want the big plasma to be so bright, you used to be able to got to preferences and under general choose the grid view to be light or dark(white or black).
That's my upgrade dislike so far lol

About a years ago I sent in a suggestion to Apple to include a category in movies for home video. ITune 11 has it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I shoot a lot of video and play it back via my Apple TV. I can now keep it in its own area.

Well, looks like I spoke too soon. Although iTunes itself allows the categorization, playback on the Apple TV still lumps them all together under movies. And, this was after an Apple TV update too.
I only have an Apple TV2 and not the newest TV3. Anyone have a TV3 that could verify operation under it???

On the Mac, where can you make changes to the interface. In iTunes 10.x listed by artist, I used to have small album artwork on the left with the Album and Artist Name below it, and to the right, each track was listed in rows with song title, artist, album name, track time, etc. Now all there is is tiled larger album artwork. I didn't have time to play with it much last night. How can I or can I get it to look like it did before?

This would be extremely frustrating to me....

What exactly happened? I am planning to do the update tonight, but I'm not planning to loose all the songs.

In my case, the iTunes/Preferences/Advanced had to be selected and then pointed to the folder where the media is. Once that was done, iTunes 11 registered all the music & everything was fine.
For ANY fresh install of iTunes, the program will default back to the iTunes folder on the boot drive. Once you reset the path, all should be good.

I checked the folder too and it was all gone. 77 albums instead of 890+. I think the culprit was that my phone was plugged in at the same time and iTunes sync'ed with it. Still, there was music on my phone that was from ripped CD's vs. the store so no reason that it should have gone missing.
Looks like the copy worked ok....trying to play from my Ipad via iCloud, stuff seems to be there, sort of. I have duplicates of some songs while others show but then won't play. Pretty frustrating, for sure.

Did you check both the folder that you previously had the music in AND the folder that iTunes is currently pointing to? If they're different, your music should still be there.
Another way to check: Type in a song or album title in Finder (or Windoze Explorer) and see if the file is found on your HDD. If so, note the path.
Yet another option: Check your waste basket or recycle bin. Are the files there?
iTunes OFTEN loses files, but rarely deletes them (although that DOES happen sometimes too).

its a new machine. everthing was supposed to be in iCloud. I copied over the file from my old laptop to my NAS prior to the move so not sure what happened with the Sync.
