Hmm where to start...Well I've been out of the "separates" world for about 3 years. Due to the economy, I had to seriously downsize the excellent home theater I had. I was spoiled by the Parasound Halo C2 pre/pro & Halo A52 amp I had, and had the massive DefTech 7000's pulling Main and Surround duties, with a CLR3000 center. Before that I had Rotel separates(enjoyed them very much as well), and going back even futher, my first foray into separates was thanks to Outlaw back in 2003'ish(back when their prices were much lower).
Enter the present time and I'm ready to pull the trigger on an used UMC-1, and maybe a UPA-500. Haven't decided on the amp, watching for different used models at the moment. Currently I have 5 DefTech StudioMonitor 350's in the theater(I know DefTechs are made fun of a lot but I've auditioned many speakers over the years and my ears just enjoy them. It all started with the BP8 for me in the early 90's, and the love affair still grows).
It's a small room(15'x12'), but the Elite receiver I have just isn't cutting it anymore. I dearly miss the extra current and headroom an amp provides, and what better company than Emotiva? I am still shocked at the prices, and they look the part as well. I've been lurking for a while and wanted to Thank everyone for all the information I've come across on these Forums. Looking forward to becoming a part of the Emotiva family! Happy Holidays! ;D

Welcome to the community! I think the upa-500 is a great deal, but if I were you I would get an xpa-5. If budget is a concern, have some patient and snatch a used one up for around 600 shipped.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!
Ben, I'm open to all models of amps. I know that if I go small, there's a huge chance I'll want more power within a couple weeks lol. I missed out on an used upa500 for 200.00, should have jumped on it!
Mark, I'm near Cleveland.

spoonman - I was hoping you'd say Cinci area! Those of us here need to do a Cincy are get-2-gether sometime, and I was hoping you would be closer than Cleveland!
jim - Columbus is not too far away from Cincy...hopefully my spring will be far less busy than my summer/fall & I can try to organized a Cincy area Emofest-light. I know there are at least 3-5 of us in the Cincy area...add in a couple more from Indy/Columbus/Lexington/Louisville...and we'd have a great get-2-gether with lots of Emo-toys.

Welcome to the group.
I was just in Lawerenceburg the other day, had to go around Cinnci to get there. Lots of rain, but I really like that area.

Bill - since Emofest, things got really busy here with me coaching my robotics team. After the New Years, things slow down - if I forget, remind me and we'll find some time to get together since you are only about 20 minutes or so away!
Then, I'll work on a spring get together for lots more of us!

Welcome - good luck on the theatre rebuild!~
Prices - I'm still floored at my dollars I put towards my XPA-200 AMP, and what I got with the design/build quality and overall performance. If I had to pay twice this, it would have meant not buying it right now, but I just dont see how I wouldnt feel like it was still an incredible deal. Emotiva really looks like they have something special going on here and I may only be a single product owner at this point, but I'm willing to take a bet you will also soon be a happy Emotiva customer if you go that route.
