The problem is when I turn on the amp. it goes into protection-mode on one side. I than turn it on again...and do this till it works... My xpa-3 never had this problem, running on the same equippment. My xpa-2 did not have it in the start either...
When the xpa-2 finally comes on it works fine, and the sound is awsome. But the time I am spending on this "turning -it -on -procedure" can be very long/many times.
I have done all sorts of trouble-shooting, but it also fails me when nothing is hooked up to it.(only the powercord)
What can it be? When it comes on, it works fine, except that the trouble-making-side is very warm...

Not to be a wise guy, but something isn't quite right. As it goes thru it's self check, it either see's something might be wrong or the self diagnostic does not work properly.
Make sure you have no loose connections anywhere, that will do it
I would call Emotiva tomm..

This happened to me and ended up changing one of my speaker cable from bananas to spades. This solved my problem. Hope this help!

Emotiva will probably give you an RMA to return it. It seems like every Christmas there is an uptick in amplifier defects.

Since it's just one channel, maybe they'll give him a module to swap it out (still requires some skill).... but it would save shipping the entire amp..
I know that Emotiva tries to work with people far away.

I did troubleshoot about 18mnds ago. And it is not loose connections, it also happens when I take the unit out of my rack, and I only have the powercord in the el.socket. And Emotiva was kind enough to send me a module, but it turns out that I do not have the skills.. When I tried to take out the module it needed "welding" and cutting cables as far as I could see. I only said I could build a PC;-) It would have been simpler if I had somekind of papers/manuals. I have not gone to any shops over here cause it would cost me more $100/hour, and that is if they wanted the job. Which they don`t.
Since I saw this might be a problem, sending things forth and back over the Atlantic, I ordered 2 UPA-1. It was a good price but when it came down to buisness it was B-stock...and that is how I ended up with XPA-2;-)
I have been embarrased by the whole situation, so I have kept quiet, and done this push the button rutine. But now I have bought myself a Sonyprojector, and the time I spend in my cinema is increasing.
Can I just have the unit on 24/7? It is quite hot on the "bad" side. Can it burn? I dod`t expect Emotiva to do much more, and I also think it is stupid/embarrasing to send it around the world. It would probably cost $120-150 each way:-(
I hoped for someone to say : I know what it is....
Marry Xmas...

There has to be someone local to you that can trouble shoot that amp??

"Can" and "willing" are two different things. Remember that Emotiva is not popular with other stores that sells amplifiers. And the implications if something goes wrong.. The reason why I bye from Emotiva is not because I think any of the stuff here is better than anything else..It is because I get it cheaper;-) But for a certain amount of money I get better equipment!!! That is why I love Emotiva. And pay for freights.
I am not trying to be difficult. But my xpa-2 is working, only not all the time..

Can I just have the unit on 24/7? It is quite hot on the "bad" side. Can it burn? Normally, leaving it on would be fine. Being hot on "the bad side" throws up some red flags. Something is definitely wrong. I wouldn't feel safe about leaving it on if it's real hot.

Yeah, the fact that it is running hot is a problem. I would continue to look for a shop that will work on it, even if you have to ship it somewhere closer to you. I know in the states we have "authorized service centers" that service high end stuff. I had to take my Arcam stuff to one and the closest was a couple hundred miles away. However, we also have more neighborhood places that service run-of-the mill products all day everyday. If you have the part, any one of these places should be able to do it. It is just remove and replace and they have the soldering equipment and test equipment regardless of brand or "high end". That is the direction I would go.

I feel bad for haugesynsar. That's a real shame, too bad that Emotiva's component check before they ship overseas didn't catch this. Perhaps someone else from Norway can suggest a place that would be glad to service the amp. Or maybe a business can be found in Norway or nearby by searching online.

too bad that Emotiva's component check before they ship overseas didn't catch this. He did say it did initially worked correctly not that it never worked correctly. How would precheck catch that?

The fact that one channel is running a bit warm sounds like a bias issue. You DO NOT want to try and fix that yourself. The way it is now isn't dangerous, but trying to fix it yourself and messing it up could cause a lot of damage to the amp, or even possibly a fire hazard. (You really don't want to mess inside high-powered amps unless you know what you're doing.) The module we sent you is pre-adjusted to avoid any such problems. Under normal circumstances there is no problem with leaving one of our amps on 24/7, but since this one seems to have a problem, and to be overheating on one side to begin with, I don't think it's a good idea to leave it on and unattended for long periods of time until it is fixed. As you already know, we would be happy to fix it here IF you wanted to pay the shipping (but that shipping is prohibitively expensive), and you chose the alternate option (we sent you a part). We're a bit surprised that you couldn't find a repair shop in your neighborhood that was willing to undertake the repair. It requires a little soldering (not welding), which may be too much for you, but should be no big deal for a qualified electronic technician. [We don't have written repair procedures because the process should be simple and obvious to anyone who is qualified to do it.] If you like, I can send you the contact information for a reputable repair shop in Norway (they are a distributor of one of our sister companies, are competent to do the work, and will no-doubt charge you a fair rate) Send me a private message here, or e-mail me at keith@emotiva.com, and I will send you their contact information. [If you e-mail, be sure to let me who you are and what it is in reference to.] I did troubleshoot about 18mnds ago. And it is not loose connections, it also happens when I take the unit out of my rack, and I only have the powercord in the el.socket. So I had a friend over today, who is an electrican and technician. He was going to put in the new card/spare-part Emo sendt me, but we were in for a surprise when the new card was different. Do you spot the differences? The old card says GXPA-2V03 The new card says GaXPA-1V02 The Emo Tech said he had never heard of any problems with different cards and asked me how different they where Well I will not reproduse any more of what he told me..But let me say that he is obviously not working in the service department. I know how strongly you Americans feel about good service, since I have lived in Florida over a year. God Bless America except your goverment and politicans

Haugesynar, You have received the wrong module. This lower module shown in the photo is from an XPA1. My apologies.
Please let me speak to the service team today and we will get you taken care of.
I am sorry for the inconvenience. We'll make things right for you immediately. Keep the faith! Cheers, Big Dan

Thanks for looking into it Mr.Laufman. Xpa-2 deserves to be taking care of! It is like (h)ear-conditoner to my ears.
When my friend opened the xpa2 an saw the size of the powersupply/transformer, he almost fell of the chair:-)
