I'm on ssdi and ssi for not working. Mental issues such as well, nothing bad and no one would be able to tell because they're only in certain cases or at home. So I'm fortunate. However they do get in my way of holding a job. I am with my parents. Don't pay rent or anything. Just bills.
Honestly it'll be at least a year before ill have enough bills paid to buy anything home theater. That's the best way I think. Then another 3 years till I could get something decent. Meaning Legacy or McIntosh etc. I'm sure I can get cheaper.

Hi Buggs, nice to have you here at the Emotiva Lounge. Sometimes all the equipment and especially the hype on high priced equipment can confuse even an old audio guy like me.
That is why I love Emotiva gear. I have seen lots of McIntosh gear over the years and I love the appearance. However, it has always been too expensive for me to buy. That's why I was so excited when I found out about Emotiva, high end at factory direct prices, and it look great too.
Just a suggestion here (not trying to get into your business) but maybe put off anymore purchases and concentrate on organizing the system set up some. That might be difficult if you have OCD. My wife has severe OCD and I have been her main nurse and support person for the last 15 years. Our great doctor put her on an SSRI (Zoloft, 300mg). It helps a lot, about 40% improvement. She has the contamination/hand washing type of OCD. She also tends to be a compulsive spender and has trouble making decisions and organizing. She is good at asking me now before she buys new things. She is doing much better. She loves the looks and sound of our HT and audio system which is mostly Emotiva bought over the past 4 years or so. When she saw our new XPA-5 she loved the blue lights and now we have more, speakers, CD player, DAC, Airmotiv4's and are waiting for the XMC-1. We love our Emo equipment and saved a lot of money over what we would have paid at the local high end stores like Definitive Audio, etc. Too much hype at those places.
BTW, did I see in one of your post a comment about Definitive? Do you live in the Seattle area? I only go to the local stores here on the Eastside and on Roosevelt to look at the high priced stuff like Mac, Wilson, you know all the brands and then come home and Listen to my Emo gear and laugh at all the money we have saved. The gear I bought over the many years at Magnolia and SpeakerLab, etc are all gone now.
Anyway, sorry to hear about losing your uncle, my sincere condolences. Hang in there, relax, don't let your mind run too fast on new equipment. Also ask your doctor if perhaps some Ativan (Lorazepam) might help when you are unable to sleep. My wife uses it sometime and it really helps her anxiety and allows her to get some good sleep. Take care Buggs.
Later, Chuckie ;D

Just do what you can and the main thing I learned was: As long as you show up - you are still winning. And showing up can be anything from doing something big to just waking up in the morning. It's very easy to get overwhelmed with all the junk in life. So, give yourself some leeway and complete something everyday. It doesn't have to be amazing. Even the dishes or checking your email or going to the grocery store. But make a single goal and do it. Or a small thing that helps you to complete one complicated thing. Over time they will add up and you will look back and be impressed that despite everything look how much you've got done. And remember you are doing an amazing job. You probably don't get told that often, but you are. And enjoy the music. What you have appears to be a system capable of delivering enjoyment. Don't worry about the small stuff and stick some tunes on and just enjoy it.

Thanks guys!!! Yea I live in Tukwila. Bout 15-20 minutes south of downtown Seattle. I'm good friends with one of the salesman at Definitive Audio in Bellevue.
I understand about amps and receivers not changing sound sometimes. However that bums me out. I mean that it would have been nice if the XPA-5 gave me a slightly different and improvement over my receiver. It does look cool. It's huge and one heav ass amp. I know sound comes from the speakers mainly just was bummed about the XPA-5.
As of right now the only things I can do is toe in and audysse. The sound change I want I guess has to come from new speakers. But I have no idea what to look at except what Magnolia and Definitive have. I wonder how much I could get for my M&K system. Good bang for buck sound.
I would like to try moving the front left and right away from the back wall but the center would have to be on the wall above the tv. So then it'd be further back from the front left right. That's not right.
Since one of my issues is perfectionist money doesn't matter when it comes to gear. Whatever it takes. Of course I usually buy within a limited budget which is maybe one reason I'm bummed sometimes. I don't even know how I'd feel about a McIntosh system. Mx121. Mc8207. Xr100, xr50 matching center. I demoed the xr100 at Definitive in Bellevue and it was awesome. I would have bought them right then if I knew my GE credit could have been raised enough. However now I'm thinking about Legacy Audio for less money. Better bass in the Focus at less then $10k pair. Probably awesome sound too.
I tried the marantz sr7005. The mx121 is exactly the same remote and UI. I bet it has the same issue of forgetting what sound to output based on input format. That's an issue in the sr7005. And with the McIntosh costing so much it bothers me a lot that they couldn't have come up with their own UI and better remote. The sr7005 did sound different then any other receiver I tried at the time. I know this. Not placebo or whatever. Very unique nice sound. I would have kept it if it output the right sound everytime.
Pioneer 53 model had a bit brighter sound. Terrible UI. you can't do everything from it. You must use their iOS app and www browser to connect to it. I didn't have network where I was so I returned it. I don't know if they changed any since.

Buggs, take a look at my pic on page 5 of this thread at the very top of the page, my center is back about a foot or so from my towers as I have it on a shelf on the wall, I don't find any issues having it that way, and I also get anxiety once and a while especially when I have more stress in my life except I refuse to take any type of medication, it's really not super bad but when I feel it coming on I just try and stay as mentally strong and focused as possible so it doesn't come on that strong, I find it easier to condition myself and then be proud that I have done so, and yes it is hard to explain to people who don't have anxiety issues and they never fully understand and it's very difficult to explain it.
Take care Chad

G'day Buggs, I work at times with those that have mental health issues, take small but positive steps forward , be goal oriantated ,write it down and take action , one piece at a time you'll get where you need to be.. I have trouble with indecision, I tend analyse to much ,which is why I make a goal and do it...Buggs be pround mate ,you talk about your issues , most don't ,talking helps, stick with it mate

Honestly, you mention SSI and $10K gear in the same thread. Some people have problems with that concept especially when they feel they are somehow funding your gear. I personally don't judge anyone so don't take the above as my thoughts. i'm just paying devil's advocate here. Anyway, I have family and friends who deal with mental health issues. It is serious business, so just remember that your health is WAY more important that any piece of electronics. Take care of that first and don't impulse buy, instead buy smart and only what you need. Take care. Al

I use my money ok. The expensive gear is just a wish list kind of thing. Something to strive for.

Well. I took care of my cell phone decision. I got a 32gb iPhone 5. I will give it to my mom sometime in the future. It's ok for me for now.
I'm going to try to start saving for a new home theater. Right now I'm thinking Integra with audysse xt32. I'd like processor and amp for cool factor and I guess it's good to seperate. But receiver is probably how ill go. Then for speakers I'm going to listen to B&W CM9 and diamond 804 and whatever paradigm they have in that price range. I would like to check out some Internet direct if they're the same as Emotiva costing much less for the quality. I'm going to experiment with moving my front left and right a bit away from the back wall and put the center on a shelf above the tv.
These are not written in any special order. Just what I'm thinking of for now.

Oh ok. Sweet. Yaaaaay. See, I can do better and learn from you all. My dad said he can build me a stand for my speakers. Out of tiger wood. Looks real nice too. We have some left over from redoing some stairs in the house. So I'm going to try this.
I actually think it'd be good idea to move my rack somewhere else but not sure where and then I'd need real long HDMI cable to go from receiver to tv.

hi all. I am interested in a xpa5 but not sure if it will be beneficial for my setup. I currently have a onkyo nr709 but will be getting a onkyo 3010 or 5010. I have klipsch speakers for my setup. it's currently a 5.1 setup but will be adding a few for 9.2. here are my speakers: fronts: RF-62II center: RC-62II surround: RS-62II
I plan on adding 2 more RS-62IIs and maybe 2 RB-61IIs for a 9.2 setup.

The XPA-5 will power the Klipschs to *very* loud (think ear-bleeding) levels - remember, these are 97-98 db efficient speakers.
If you do not require that much volume, one of the lesser-powered Emo amps (UPA-700, UPA-500) will work quite well, still play quite loud (115+ db with power left over - I read where a Smashing Pumpkins concert registered 110db in the front row) and you'll save significant money...

with a upa700 does it add the 80w on top of the power from receiver or only 80w to the each speaker connected? and is 80w enough?
