Now that I have your attention... Got my XPA-5 fired up and listening to 2 channel music. Using analog out from my Oppo. Natalie Cole CD. HOLY CRAP! It's like she's standing in front of me singing. I cannot believe the imaging improvement. And, of course, as I'm walking out the door, the mail man delivers my very first SACD, The Essential Marvin Gaye! Also, my system has always had the "horsepower", but now with the Emotiva, I feel like it has the "torque" as well. Does that make sense? Also, I have read "audiophile" reviews about the XPA-5 stating that it lacks "upper end airiness" compared to 5 figure amps. Horse S@@@! I have the AV123 X-Statik towers that speak at the very highest registers of human hearing, and there is all the air one could ask for! Midrange and bass have weight to them finally as well. Will submit a complete review when my complete system is setup.

I know what you mean I find since getting my Paradigm 100's running with my XPA-5 I'm in love all over again. The 100's are so much better than my previous PSB Image T6's.

Yep the XPA-5 at 200 watts X 5 is hard to beat that's a $1.11 a watt.

The so-called and so often mis-labeled "audiophile" reviewers like super duper airy fairy responses that sound like sweet whispers. Oh wait...did I seriously write that? (looking back...) Yup, I did...
For me, the swap over to the Emotiva XPA-1's gave me the breadth, depth and clear intonation I was seeking out of my Vienna Acoustic main speakers. In other words, I hear everything that was put into the recording.

I just love people's first reactions to emo amps! Reminds me of my own reaction...
Enjoy!

Sorry for the almost bad word My buddy heard the setup and went home to hear his McIntosh amp and said he couldn't tell a difference, and this is HIS amp. I'm not going to say Emotiva is as good as McIntosh, but he likes my setup as much as his dedicated 2 channel froo froo setup. Just saying...we just might be ahead of the curve

..... I'm not going to say Emotiva is as good as McIntosh ..... Well, I won't make that statement either and the meters are super cool. However, I bet one could not walk in and tell by listening on a consistent basis whether my or most other speakers were being driven by the Emo or the Mac. Most importantly for me, the $5600 approximately that I saved by buying the Emotiva XPA-5 over the MC205, financed the remaining equipment in my entire HT system, including 5 speakers, 1 sub, Velodyne SMS-1, ERC-2, Oppo 83 player, Panny DVR, turntable and cartridge, 50" plasma as well as my new XMC-1 plus my Airmotiv4's and XDA-2 with $2 left over!. I'll stay with the XPA-5, thank you!

I WILL make that statement. Have compared XPR-5 and MC601 side-by-side. Zero difference in SQ. The Mac meters are hella cool though. The Emotiva LEDs and the uneven side lights are lame in comparison. I'd easily pay $100 for the meters .

Meters, schmeters! I wants me one of those ultra-cool Mac clocks. But I'm not willing to forego eating for 6 months to buy one...

I am am Emotiva owner. I have an XPA 5 which has served me very well and a UMC-1 which is OK, too many audio cut outs and bugs for my liking. Hanging on for the XMC-1.
I love the company and how they treat their customers. Seeing Dan respond on the forums is awesome.
I recently upgraded my preamp to improve 2 channel sound and purchased Cary Mono Block Amps to see if I could hear a difference. I tried to wait for the XPA-1L but tired of waiting.
I have home theater bypass and can easily A-B the amp / preamp combination. As much as I love Emotiva there is no comparison. The only way to compare gear is to have the components side by side in the same environment in my opinion. Granted I do not have the Emotiva Mono Blocks to compare to.
I have also isolated the 2 channel sound on the UMC-1 vs The Preamp and it also falls short.
Was it worth the additional cost? I purchased used so I am happy with my decision. Buying used gives you the ability to turn the components over at not much of a loss.
Emotiva is a great company they take great care of their customers however the audiophile gear for the most part have earned their reputation also.

To each their own ;D IMO, the only way to compare gear is to listen BLIND.
