Hello all,
I had been interested in getting an ERD-1 for some time, and i decided to try them out since i did not feel like spending over a grand for matching surrounds from Vienna Acoustics
I have had these for around a week now to get a feel for them and see how they interacted in my system. All the equipment i used with them is listed in my Sig.
Well first of all shipping was insanely fast haha, less than 2 days...So that was pretty sweet. I brought the box inside and opened it up. These speakers come in the nice soft black bag per speaker (similar to what the DMC-1, RSP-1, RPA-1 and MPS-1 all come in). Gives it a nice "touch" IMO. They came with the really nice mouting plates (which i have not used yet, but plan to for wall placement). They look like they will be very easy to install.
I currently have them sitting behind my listening area on stands, looks goofy, but its only temporary. Well anyway i set them up and connected them to my XPA-3. I was so excited that i popped in a movie (Iron Man) and pressed play! my smile turned upside down...THEN...DOH! ::smacks head:: i forgot i needed to reset the Audussey from my Denon 2809. They were set at 60hz and distances were off and i had a few other problems. Well as everyone knows these are sealed and made for a crossover setting at 80hz. Once i re-ran Audyssey everything began to sync and the smile quickly returned! (im an idiot lol)
I used my new reference disk (Kung Fu Panda) to get a good feel for the ERD-1's. I was a little nervous how they would blend with my laid-back Mozart Grands. Well after listening for a week now i can tell you that they blend exceptionally well!!! Pans from the front to back or vice-versa are just so incredibly seamless. These surrounds are so very crisp! They are so tiny but can put out sound like you would not ever believe!!!! ;D I was more than pleasantly suprised when listening to Kung Fu Panda. The scene when the tiger escapes from the Rhino guarded prison was just jaw dropping.. I'm also a pretty big gamer on my PS3 so i was excited to give these a try with Call of Duty 5. HOLY CRAP! The sound quality of these suckers is out of this world! Gun shots behind me were so clear and accurate, foot steps were so precise and realistic that its like im really in the action every time i fire up my PS3 for some game time!!! ;D very cool!
These speakers do exactly what they are supposed to do...Disappear in the room! Both in a visual and audible sense. They are nice and small and in all honesty are the ideal surround speaker that i would want. My home theater experience with these surrounds has exceeded my expectations of them. I am very very pleased with these surrounds. I now understand why audioholics liked them so much in their review of the Emotiva speaker package!!! I hope people took advantage of the Emotiva black friday speaker sale because they were a steal!!! Even at the usual price these speakers are an incredible deal. If any of you are on the fence about these, i suggest you give them a shot, because if you have an experience with them like i have had you will be a very happy camper. ;D
Kudos Emotiva on a great Speaker! Tell Vance Dickason he designed a gem of a surround!
