I'm hoping the ERD's will stop my surround searching. what other speakers do you use? what components do you use? ^ Currently using Energy Audissey mains. They're a tower speaker that I've had since around 2000, and have no desire to replace them. Center is a Deftech C/L/R 2000, again an older speaker that I don't want to replace. I arrived at that combo by mistake, since the center I was going to get wasn't available. Numerous trips to the A/V store convinced me they were close enough in timbre to use together. Surrounds have ranged from Deftechs, to Energy's, to JBL's. Like I said before, I've never been willing to spend too much on surrounds. Sub is a Velodyne HGS-18, which I won't replace until I'm forced to. Components are an Outlaw 990 preamp/7125 amp, Toshiba HD-A2, PS3 (60GB), Panasonic projector, and a da-lite Hi-power screen. Every day family viewing is on a 40" Samsung. I've been through numerous receivers and amps over the years, finally settling on the Outlaw. Now I'm back in the swing and have the upgrade bug for components. Namely something for lossless audio and a higher powered amp or two. Contrary to what a lot of people think, I believe that you can in fact hear a difference in electronics, not just speakers.

Ha! I probably packed the replacement grills into your order today. It took me, Lonnie and Chris to do what Nick does daily. Replacement grills? Sounds like ghetto dental work to me. ;D I'm excited about them. I've been through numerous speakers in my home theater over the years (across the front three channels), but have yet to find a suitable surround for the money I'm willing to spend. Although electronics have come a long way, surround information in soundtracks still hasn't become prominent enough to get me to waste the same amount of money on surrounds that I do on electronics, subs, or front speakers. I'm hoping the ERD's will stop my surround searching. They are amazingly efficient, and designed to take some power...

I have to ask - how far away are you sitting from these ERD-1's? How far apart are they placed?
My Panasonic AE3000 is now in my basement and its build time; I'm still hunting for fronts.....

Well, I've finally got the surrounds up, and I'm most pleased with them - MOST pleased. Clarity, transparency, fidelity, separation, integration......just pick whatever adjective you like to use to describe a worthy set of speakers and apply it to the ERD-1's.
The first movie was Live Free or Die Hard. It has loads of surround channel use, and gave the speakers a nice warm welcome. When action happened on (or off) the screen, the appropriate speaker reacts with sound that is both subtle and precise. I guess, at the risk of sounding cliche, they did in fact disappear in the room. The pans from front to back were pretty much seamless, and music being sent to the surround channels had a sound that reminds me more of main speakers than small surrounds.
The speakers were much heavier and more substantial feeling than I was expecting, and the mounting brackets are just plain awesome. I can't tell you how pleased I am with them.

Gun shots behind me were so clear and accurate, foot steps were so precise and realistic that its like im really in the action every time i fire up my PS3 for some game time!!! ;D very cool! -Steve Would it be bad to say I've thought about getting them for that sole purpose?

Whoever said, "good things come in small packages" certainly knew what he was talking about, especially when referring to the ERD-1's. Just need a few more people at Ebay to buy my stuff, and I'll be ordering a second pair for side surrounds.

I've watched several more movies now, and I can't get over how a speaker creates such a diffused soundfield while still delivering discrete on/off screen action and music when needed. These are the surrounds I've been looking for. At the price they are, I feel like I should buy a couple of amps from Emotiva to assuage my guilt.

My vintage Sansui G9000 is presently in the shop being restored and upgraded. It pushes 160 watts per channel and I can hook up to 4 speakers so until my XMC-1 arrives, the XPA-2 & XPA-5 will remain in their boxes and I will have to suffer (if you want to call it that), with my Sansui. haha gotcha, just making sure you knew. My Baby is back.............. Cleaned, Preaned amd Remachined!!Here are some of the mods....... Binding Posts instead of spring clips, plus unseen is a hard wire to bypass the preamp outs.New Gold Plated RCA'sPlus, replaced worn capacitors, resoldered any bad connections, the already mentioned bypass of the preamp out circuits, replaced some power capacitors, realigned the FM bias and recalibrate tuning dial, realign and lubricate all toggles, pots, and switches.........Not too shabby? And I call this suffering!! ;D

Animo - That Sansui is awesome. I bet that volume and tuning knob turn silky smooth.

Animo - That Sansui is awesome. I bet that volume and tuning knob turn silky smooth. Everything is silky smooth. Especially the sound. I'm hearing things out of my speakers that I didn't hear with my Onkyo HT. If I can notice this diiference, imagine the difference I'll notice once running it through my Emo gear? PS...Even the toggle switches are smooth, they kinda glide into position instead of clicking into position.
