I like that story a lot, $700 vs 10k I love it. And to think over at Polk I was told by a very valued member you get what you pay for, no over priced amps..lol Thanks Garbulky.. Here is one of his most impressive accomplishments. He made his much cheaper amplifier sound like an expensive tube design so much that stereophile did their best to to make it against his favor but in the end conceded that his amp sounded identical to a reference tube amp without reservations. They didn't reveal the name of the reference amp for fear of discrediting the high end manufacturer. His amp reproduced the sound to such an extent that after extended listening during the tweaking stage they found areas where bobs amp performed better and had to be tweaked to sound worse to make it identical sounding. ;D The reference amp was a conrad johnson amp which at that time cost over $10k (not adjusted for inflation). Bob's amp cost $700 and if I'm not wrong was a solid state and he made the modifications. He created 70db nulls (cancellations) between the amplifiers. Interesting because he said usually you could hope for 40 db nulls between channels of the same amplifiers. This is where 50 db nulls was about a 0.3% difference. The tweaj work was completed in just a few days with significant delays within the few days to his tweaks happening due to imperfections that weren't bobs fault (bad voltage for the room he was supplied, an insufficient variac provided by stereophile.) He completed this stuff while having injured his back lifting the reference amp. ;D ;D How many of us can claim to change the world of audio while injuring your back with insufficent equipment (variac) to start with? www.carveraudio.com/index.php/history/carver-corpA qoute on his sunfire line: "At first it was Zeus Audio, named after my puppy, but I received a letter from an attorney who said, "No, you can't name it Zeus because we represent an amplifier company and we have names like Hercules, Aphrodite, Apollo, and Zeus." I renamed the company Silvermane, and promptly got a letter from another attorney who wrote, "No, I represent the Marvel Comics Group and we have a Superhero called Silvermane." Silvermane was out. Enter Sunfire."

I did a search this morning with the words "Emotiva Carver" for past 24 hours. As expected, the results were mostly discussions. In these discussions they seem to start out with say one disapproval and then two approval's. I am being kind with my description when I say disapproval. The approval's are testament to Emotiva's gear that spur the inqusitive that ask "Emotiva? Really? Awesome, did not know."
Knowing what caused the ripples in the pond, the future of those ripples is still unknown but it looks like there definitely headed to all corners of the Audio pond. It's looking like that was not a little pebble that Dan threw into the pond. This may be a wake up call for many of those sitting on one side of the fence because they were told to. This will definitely get more acquainted with Emotiva. This is just fun for everyone. Thanks for the fun, everyone at Emotiva.
Mike

HOLY FRIGGING C**P!
I just woke up and found this thread. To say I am excited is a huge understatement. Carver equipment in the late 80s with it's high performance to price ratio is what allowed me to get into high end audio and to become a budding audiophile. My original system was a M-1.5t amp and a C1 pre. Twenty plus years later I started on a path to redo my system and I turned to Emotiva for the very same reasons I chose Carver all those years ago. Awesome products that I could actually afford. I sold my Carver amp to help fund my XPA-2 purchase and I replaced the Carver Pre (which I still have) with the XSP-1.
I am so excited about this marriage and I feel it was done "Just for me". Congrats to Emo and Mr. Carver. I see a bright future ahead!

I think that Emotiva will continue to stand on its own merits. Carver will now have a new Jade Design backed enterprise that will add to Jade's offerings (especially tubed amps and preamps) and that will enable Bob Carver to continue to exercise his creative genius. Both will mutually benefit and we will enjoy and be able to afford great new products. The only thing constant is change!

I belong to several other forums, but the Polk forum is not one of them. It is not the products (they make good speakers), it is the nasty tone I quickly picked up on over there and decided not to join. I couldn't agree with you more. I am a member over there having owned Polk products for decades. In the 5 or so years I have been a member I think I have a half dozen or so posts. Being on that forum literally depresses me. Their anti Emotiva dogma is incredible. I've never experienced such elitest snobbery anywhere on the net. This latest acquisition will give these pretentious dolts the chance they need to hop on the Emotiva bandwagon. "Oh I guess it's a good company now".

That is way cool! I have a Carver TFM-45 signed by the man in my main HT setup right now. Makes my Polk SDA 2s sing. I agree about the Polk forum as I 've belonged for 6 years and only have 14 post. Congrats to Emo. My best friends dad in high school had a pair of Carver Silver Sevens. They were beautiful and sounded awesome. ;D

Emotiva's very fine products, including amps stand on their own, thank you! Absolutely, Chuckienut. It has been a joy to watch Mr.Dan Laufman and his Crew succeed in winning the loyalty and praise of their customer's. They (all Emotiva employees) have always provided professional and courteous service. They are the most transparent company I believe I have ever seen. I attended the first annual Emofest and they all worked hard to see everyone enjoyed good entertainment and food. There was never anyone pushing sales and when everyone lined up wanting to buy that usp-1 ect... it was all hands on deck. I stood around talking to Lonnie and he treated me like I was old friend. Dan made it his mission to greet everyone and came to me and shook my hand. Cathy was working the office and her crew where actually running to help everyone. That same service show's everday here on there site. I see Mr.Dan Laufman enjoy making products that are top notch and kicking everyones butt on price. Who does that? Why would they do that? I have seen so many discussions on, is this for real? There is alot of that going on now that Dan has acquired Carver. From the latest podcast Dan's own words make it clear that they are of like minds when it comes to sharing the love of good Audio with everyone and at prices that are not made up and I mean just wrong. I'm saving for retirement and that means a budget on everthing. Dan could easily raise prices and we all know it would still be a value. This is Mr.Dan Laufman's company and reading his last post here, he is loving that his friend Bob Carver is here. I have great Emotiva equipment now and its not going anywhere but I am going to beg, borrow or steal to have fun with some Tubes that comes from all the great minds at Emotiva. I see alot of others looking at Emotiva now with Mr. Bob Carver here. If they ask me what Emotiva gear sounds good I'm telling them USP-1, UPA-2 and ERC-1. I just know I am going to love Emotiva Tube gear. Thanks, Mr.Dan Laufman. I'm having fun! Mike

I can honestly say that over my 44 years in audio/home theater there is one person that stands way out among all the high end shops, quality manufacturers and owner's of audio/HT businesses. Because of him I can finally afford to buy high quality gear that for my tastes makes me happy without breaking my bank account. Yes, I have heard all the big name brands and for my dollar there is nothing even close to the price performance value of Emotiva products from a company started by Mr. Dan Laufman. ^ +1, Chuckie! Emotiva hasn't been the first "super amp" that I've owned, but it has been as good as any and a fraction of the price of the others. Bravo Emo!

They sound so much better than they look. I could not be more pleased with them. They are good for 358wpc @8 and 446@ 4 ohms. Bass response is as deep, fast and tight as any SS amp I have heard, and there is such warmth and detail in the midrange and highs that is am often surprised by them, even if Pandora is the source. Shoot me a pm. You are welcome to (and anyone else) that would like to see/hear them. Just bring your reference material with you. Mi casa, su casa. ***Light bulb just went off*** Hey how about doing a comparison vs the best that Emotiva has to offer, XPR-1's?? I think that would make for a fun and interesting time. Btw, thanks for invite. Same goes for you too, mi casa es su casa.

Those seem to be in the ballpark with my VTL MB-450's, though I think the VTLs have a couple more 6550's. The sonic qualities you describe also match my experience, they sound like great amps. Welcome!

Can we get back on topic. Why lock a thread with talk like this.
Has absolutely nothing to do with the thread title......

Some here have said Ha, Bob will justify emotiva. I don't think Dan needs Bob to give emotiva credence. Emotiva brings some fine products to the table for everyone to enjoy. Mr. Carver has been a cornerstone in this industry for decades and I'm sure thru his ebay sales is also doing alright. Personally I think both parties invovled will benefit from this partnership almost as much as we the consumer! I look forward to see what they will have to offer in the near future. Good luck to Dan and Bob on their endeavors.
