And now for something weird:
As strange as it is, I really like the stuff coming from Postmodern Jukebox (and all the other associated projects sprouting from the mind of Scott Bradlee).

You know, the Postmodern Jukebox stuff is interesting, I'll give it that. They are talented musicians/singers, and they have created interesting versions of today's pop songs. But I couldn't listen to any of them start to finish, because the original songs are not well written. I've always said that the hallmark of great songwriting is when you can rerecord a song in any genre and it would still be a great song. The upcoming Motley Crue tribute album is a great example. I'm not generally a fan of today's country music (I like 70s outlaw country, not today's pop country), but I listened to the previews of the tracks yesterday on iTunes, and these artists did a nice job of covering Motley Crue's catalog. The only reason it stands up today (some of those songs are 35 years old) is because they were well-written. You can make fun of the hair and the look and the antics and the subject matter all you want, but strip those songs down to the basics and they are brilliantly written. Some of the tracks actually show how different country music is today than it used to be, and they sound very similar to the original versions, but for the most part, these are great covers. itunes.apple.com/us/album/nashville-outlaws-tribute/id890139107

As is every post on a thread about "Cool or Interesting Covers". Cool and interesting are both matters of opinion. As are good and bad. I thought that was the point. I guess I'll just post science on here now.

Boys, do you suffer from low testosterone? Forget the supplements, just watch and listen to this! Need a booster? If this doesn't do it nothing ever will!

Since we're doing Zeppelin covers: Yes Lovemongers which is basically Heart have done some great covers of Led Zeppelin. Heart included John Paul Jones on their The Road Home album a great live album. Some of my favorite Led Zeppelin covers come from Train.
