Folks, I'm considering getting the PT-7030...
Could you guys pl. confirm the following...
1. Which DAC chip is used for the Audio in all the channels? Is it 24bit/192kHz? What are all the sample rates it can handle? 2. What are the THD+N and S/N ratio figures? 3. What is the power transformer used? Is it a Shielded Toroidal Transformer? 4. Does it decode Dolby True HD, DTS-HD Master Audio? 5. What kind of Ultra-Low-Jitter Circuitry for Audio does it have? 6. Does the Ethernet port support DLNA or can it be connected to a NAS for reading audio files (if not video files) directly? 7. I see what looks like micro-USB port and also a regular USB port - not sure if both are available? 8. I'm presently in India and they confirmed they will send it rated for 220V/50Hz AC - but just incase I need to - what would it take to change it back to 110V/60Hz AC? 9. Can someone post a higher-res image of the front and rear - than what is available on their website?
Thanks everyone... and looking forward to joining the Sherbourn/Emotiva community.

The PT-7030, while possessing balanced outputs is not a fully balanced design. If you're looking for a fully balanced multi-channel preamp you're either going to have to look at some of the older reference Mark Levinson products (no HDMI though) or older Krell (same issue(s)). Emotiva's XMC-1 AV preamp is going to be fully balanced however Actually the Integra 80.3 if used as a 5.1 preamp (not 7.1) is balanced. The DACs go into a differential mode that makes it a fully balanced design. The Denon preamp is also fully balanced. Looking forward to checking out the XMC-1. Does the PT-7030 not have this differential mode making the output balanced? What is the DAC on the PT-7030... If the balanced output is not the same as the balanced output from an Onkyo PR-SC5509 (Integra 80.3) or Denon - then I wonder if its going to be worth the trouble? I'm really keen on getting as clean/true a balanced analog output as possible ...my speakers are a Neumann KH310...

Welcome...I've answered a few of your questions inline below (in blue):Folks, I'm considering getting the PT-7030... Could you guys pl. confirm the following... 1. Which DAC chip is used for the Audio in all the channels? Is it 24bit/192kHz? What are all the sample rates it can handle? Cirrus 192kHz/32bit. Should be able to handle everything up to 192kHz, but I'm not sure about DSD. 2. What are the THD+N and S/N ratio figures? 3. What is the power transformer used? Is it a Shielded Toroidal Transformer? Yes, it looks that way from the pictures with the cover off. 4. Does it decode Dolby True HD, DTS-HD Master Audio? Yes 5. Micro-USB is for upgrades only. USB is for the Bluetooth dongle only. 8. I'm presently in India and they confirmed they will send it rated for 220V/50Hz AC - but just incase I need to - what would it take to change it back to 110V/60Hz AC? 9. Can someone post a higher-res image of the front and rear - than what is available on their website? See below Thanks everyone... and looking forward to joining the Sherbourn/Emotiva community.

swampfire - thanks for the response and the photo... As for the Twin Cirrus 32bit/192kHz - I believe its for the DSP - not the DAC. After reading through24 pages of this thread and googling - I'm yet to find any details on the DAC in all the channels of the PT-7030? Another question is regarding the Balanced nature of the outputs? I don't mean "True balanced" like in the really high-end processors like Krell or Lexicon etc.. If the output is not balanced in at least the same sense as say the balanced output from an Onkyo PR-SC5508 or Marantz AV7701... ... then the PT-7030 would make no sense for me... Can someone from Emotiva step-in and respond to the above questions (including the ones in my earlier post)?

Dont use any legacy devices anymore, so its not an issue. It does have compnant, and room correction so..... he reviews are great, and they are hard to get lately so I was lucky to get one for the price I did... way under MSRP and NIB with reciept for 5 yr warranty. I ran the Krell HTS 7.1 before selling it for my DMC. THis ought to sound great with my setup and my new SVS sub Hi scpanel, Would please let know how the PT-7030 compared to the DMC-1 in sound. I am only interested in your thought on how they may have differed in sound only. Thanks Mark

I suggest calling Emotiva directly for this information, some of us know some of the questions you have but cannot answer all of them, we are just customers like yourself. One question you have that I know is the Ethernet port is not for streaming and is used only for the home integration software, it's in the manual. Chad

I have already pulled the 7030 and installed the Krell. WOW. its got pretty impresive soundstage and you feel more involved. What caught me by surprise was the bass and I dont have my new sub yet or any for that matter, and have not run its room correction software. I wont until I have all the pieces in place, but I have to say that the Krell passes all the HDMI fine to the Sony 4K tv, I am not having any issues like with the 7030 so its definitely not the TV as i suspected.
Its going to be interesting to see what they find but I did put it up for sale so now I have the 7030 and DMC-1 up and a 40% card to sell. I am very pleased with this Krell out of the box. Just a big jump in sound and sound a lot like my old Krell HTS 7.1
2 channel is where it shines, but more to come as I get it all up and eventually get it all calibrated. NO MORE AUDIO DELAYS! its instantaneous.
But enough on that.

Thanks Mark I felt like the 7030 had a little better separation, but if it were not for wanting HDMI switching I would just keep the DMC 1 honestly. NOt sure that the difference was great enough to justify it unless you wanted HDMI switching. but at 699 its a steal for all you get I think....

How is it that the 7030 thread on AVS Forum manages to stay more on-topic than this thread?
I'm looking forward to posting a detailed review of my PT-7030 this weekend. I'll do 2 reviews: an early one on features and usability, and another in a month or so on A/V quality. So far I'm very happy with my purchase. I ordered around noon on Cyber Monday, and here I am 2 days later enjoying my new PT-7030. :-)

Thanks for the high-res pics creimes...
I'm going ahead with the purchase - even though some mysteries about the DAC/Balanced out remain...
The fact that it doesn't decode FLAC/DSD is not an issue as I will any case have to hookup the PT-7030 via HDMI to my PC to read the video files (stored on external HDD) - therefore all my music flac (also stored on a portable HDD) will also need to be read via the PC - using VLC or XBMC or some such... therefore the USB port on the PT-7030 will not be taken-up by any hard-disk and will remain dedicated to the Bluetooth adapter. This will come in handy to dazzle the "unsuspecting and unknowing visitors" with some mp3 music stored on my phone...
but the DAC and Balanced output still remains a mystery - and I have to assume (not know) that it somehow must be at least as good as the DACs on mass market receivers with 24bit/192khz with a good clock, buffer and some low jitter circuitry
I did read through the entire thread and am still not able to clear the bigger mystery surrounding the DAC/Balanced output... not sure if the DAC or pre-amp circuit output is unbalanced or balanced... this is why I was keen on knowing what the DAC is
Would they simply have just wired the XLR pins to the RCA and called it balanced? Am I to assume this is unlikely because at some point the MSRP on this product was US$1700... Why wouldn't it be at least as balanced an output as you would get from say a Marantz AV7005 (which is what this product was positioned against)?
Can someone simply just open the box and check what the DAC is and whether its circuitry looks like balanced output or may be just verify the polarities of the pin 1 and pin 2 of the XLR output? This shouldn't be a mystery with so many smart electronic techies on this forum...

The balanced input and outputs are balanced from what I have heard, they are just not Differential like the XSP-1, I still suggest calling Emotiva and asking them, they are great to talk to on the phone with any questions you have.

The $2-7 DAC chips matter far less than the supporting analog circuitry. This is the picture that ultimately sold me on the PT-7030. Also...why so much angst over whether the outputs are truly balanced or not? Unless your amp is in another room, it won't make a bit of difference to the sound. I'll pop the lid this weekend and see if we can put this question to rest for good.
