With the announcement that some existing Sherbourn products are to be rebadged as Emotiva gear, does anyone think the 7030 will survive in some form? I for one would like to see it rebadged/tweaked as the UMC-500. It may take some rewiring/reconfiguring of the from panel to fit the Emotiva aesthetic. 95% of the design & manufacturing is done, it retains the balanced connections of the UMC-500 prototype and it may help bring more customers in that do require some legacy video inputs. Strip out a few of the CE-centric features and I think they would have a winner on their hands. All re-launched models will have Emotiva cosmetic design. You can look at the line and probably guess which models are redundant. The PT-7030 will also continue as an Emotiva Pro model. As will the 7-150 and 2-250. The SR-8100 will be seen again as an Emotiva model!! All warranties will fall in line with the Emotiva brand.

Thank you all for your replies and input. I guess my biggest mistake looking for speakers was the low rate stores I was going to, ie, big box names... Anyhow, don't have to bother buying new now thanks to my rebuilds. Loving my sherbourn gear and the more I listen the more I realize the pa 7-150 is more than enough, especially with a baby in the house and the female parental unit of said baby... Aka, the wife. I've already heard, "can you please turn that down" at least 5,000 times in my life and counting, so she is, ahem, cough, THRILLED with my new home theater gear. Lmao. Does that mean I'm growing up?, now that one of my favorite pastimes is angering my wife? JK, love the woman and would die without her. I think this iRule business is the ticket if I can find a decent used unit on eBay that was spoken of previously, that seems to bring it to more budget friendly terms if I can find a deal. Anyone else have experience with roomieremote vs iRule that could sway me either way? I'm actually getting used to the stock remote but man does that iRule sound stupendous if I can make it work for everything and throw all those eyesore loseable remotes in the closet. And get used to the stock remote if you want but it still sucks. Why oh why sherbourn? Also, wish the PT 7030 had a tuner, just one more box to clutter my shelf. Got an old adcom preamp tuner that is working nicely tho.
One more question. I purchased from parts express a cost efficient measuring mic for iPad/etc, can anyone recommend best room correction app/software to use to get some precision settings for that global eq? Looking to expand my knowledge a bit here on getting this thing dialed in and utilizing its fine tunability.. Thanks again all, it's good to be a part of "the lounge"

Hello everyone. This pre/pro seems like a great deal. I went through the online pdf manual and could not find an answer to my question, does anyone know if this unit will do 5 or 7 channel stereo sound mode? What I mean is...Instead of listening to the direct dolby digital or whatever feed I get while watching TV, I like to sometimes activate all the speakers at the same time. I used to have a Pioneer unit that had this mode but I also have a Anthem MRX300 that does not.
This is great for watching football while having people over. If anyone can confirm/deny that would be great.
I plan on directly comparing the PT-7030 to my Anthem MRX300. I have a Emotiva 5 channel amp doing the grunt work. I love my Anthem but also like testing out new equipment.
Thanks!

One note about the 7 Channel Stereo. You have to set this in the menu as a default for an input, and then you can modify with the remote to either 2 channel or Multichannel. The 7030 will automatically pick out the proper Surround processing to use. DTS-HD will automatically be selected, if available. You can set defaults to 5 Channel or 7 Channel (front high or back surround for the 6/7 channel). I have not found a way to go from 2CH Stereo to 7CH easily, without setting the default in the menu screen to 7CH.
If you want to use analog 7 channel input with a source, you have the option to use the MULTI button to select teh 7.1 input (which should give you 7.1 input. Useful if you have an OPPO and want to see the difference between decoders.
I also notice that the 2CH selection will also output to the Sub woofers. (channels shown on the front panel are L/R/Sub).
With my MRX-500, I had 7 channel stereo as an option.

I should have been more clear on my Anthem. I seem to be able to get all channel stereo mode when feeding it a stereo (2.0) signal but not with something like Dolby Digital. All other misc consumer receivers I've owned over the years could do it but not the MRX300.
I should be getting the Sherbourn sometime tomorrow and look forward to messing around with it this weekend. Going to use it a few weeks and see what happens. Give my ears time to adjust and what not.

Can you set up the 7030 with a turntable and an external phono amp? If yes, can you set up the 7030 for 2.0 channel without the subs being on? Can that be set up as a macro on the remote control? Thanks for all your help.

So far, I thoroughly enjoy the PT-7030 and while it is a step backwards in terms of features from my Onkyo TX-NR3009 I do enjoy the simplicity it provides. One issue I do have is with the Bluetooth module. Does anyone else have problems with it? When I plug it in to the USB port the menu pops up asking if I want to use the iPod interface or Bluetooth, but the processor will not respond to the remote arrow keys to make a selection. Am I missing something here?
Thanks.

Can you set up the 7030 with a turntable and an external phono amp? Sure. What is it that you think would cause it to not accept the standard line level inputs that most phono preamps output? If yes, can you set up the 7030 for 2.0 channel without the subs being on? Can that be set up as a macro on the remote control? Thanks for all your help. I don't see where you can set a macro to change the "size" of your speakers. Speaker set up universal, except.... If you were to run your phono preamp into the FR (front right) FL (front left) inputs of the "Unbalanced 7.1 Inputs" section, you bypass everything except volume, including bass management.

I think that someone in another thread said that the PT-7030 decodes DSD. Is that true?

I think that someone in another thread said that the PT-7030 decodes DSD. Is that true? That was me but I'm not sure now, I set my Oppo 103 to output SACD as DSD but the onscreen menu still says PCM even though I have a DSD SACD of Ray Charles, so I'm thinking the PT-7030 doesn't accept DSD, but it looks like the XMC-1 will from the product page info. Can all of the channels be equalized. Doe the 7030 offer the ability to equalize the rear and side channels. It seems most systemt based of the cirrus DSP only offer 5.1. can someone confirm that all 7 channels (plus the sub) can be equalized?
Thanks Chris

Thanks for all your help. I have my 7030 hooked up to my Jolida JD9 phono / Pro-Ject RPM table and the combo works great together. I prefer to listen in direct mode which turns off the sub.

A quick note for those connecting a OPPO to the 7030. I couldn't get SACD or DTS encoded movies to play, and could not find any settings in the 7030 to be configured. Found that in the OPPO setup, you must configure for AUTO for Audio out (Movie and SACD). Once you do, all CD/DVD/BluRay/SACD/FLAC movies/audios will be correctly selected by the 703 and played. I thought I was going to have to connect the 7.1 out to the 7.1 in to get things to work properly, and while that is still an option, it is not a necessity. So, the Anthem MRX-500 is now out of the equipment rack, and the 7030 is taking over all duties. Next job is to get the XPA-1 amps hooked up and see how the Sherbourn Pre works with pure stereo. Let us know how you feel about the differance in the sound between the Anthem or the 7030. I hav been looking at the Anthem 50v 3D but the price is a bit more then I want to pay, so it is between the 7030 , Anthem 500 or the future EMC-1

jKing - I have an Anthem 500 and also replaced it with a 7030. I miss the ARC with the Anthem, but after getting used to tweaking the Anthem settings, it was much easier to work with the 7030 minus the hardware.
The Anthem was the first AVR that showed me just how quiet an AVR can be, and the only issue was trying to use it as a Receiver. Made a great PRE, driving the EMO Amps via RCA, and it was a wonderful combination.
I prefer some of the functions and functionality of the Anthem over the 7030, but the final reason for the 7030 was the dual HDMI outs. After trying several HDMI splinters to achieve the 1 into 2 with varied results, decided on giving the 7030 a try. So far, the 7030 has stayed in the rack.
The Anthem 500 is now doing duty in my computer work area, combined with a XDA for computer input. Just can't quite part with it.

For anyone curious about what codecs the pt7030 will playback over the usb port ; the manual being moot ; I tried flac mp3 and mp4a unencrypted from itunes . Flac are a no go but was happy the other codecs were fine and easy to scoll through Must agree with other comments Ive read ; the PL2X music dsp mode after tweaking the parameters was very impressive even for the lossy compressed codecs . Was very happy too with dialog articulation playing hdma and truehd soundtracks and the ability to trim multiple eq frequencies on the fly [ and not just cc and surrounds etc though handy ] is much appreciated . The hdmi is bullet proof so far and the analog upscale dvdo chip being fed a source direct pvr signal is on a par with the similar abt chip in my custom analog modded oppo 83 ; I sold my 95[iso firmware ] which just about paid for the 7030 ; couldn't say no even with the exchange rate getting sick
