One note about the 7 Channel Stereo. You have to set this in the menu as a default for an input, and then you can modify with the remote to either 2 channel or Multichannel. The 7030 will automatically pick out the proper Surround processing to use. John Curious the 7ch stereo mode restless ;selected it in the menu and when I cancelled the onscreen the vfd was set to 5ch stereo instead I can flip through all dsp modes including pl2x to rule out my setup - as I have a 7.1 setup with back surrounds but 7ch stereo just echoes in the back surrounds .. The input was just 2ch lpcm . Not a concern as its only a party mode but wouldn't be surprised that its fundamentally a 5ch mode . The same cirrus logic chipset certainly did ces7.1 fine on my old cary 11a but this mode wasnt available . Maybe there's a specific key press involved to do the trick Maybe it's to do with my main 5.1 being fed through the xlrs and the backs unbalanced but Its something in the stereo duplication I guess ..

Regarding the PEQ, does anyone know if any other audio outputs such as the zone 2,3 or the digital outs can be eq'ed? (other than the main 7.1) In case anyone is wondering what for.....different rooms and different speakers require different EQ and it seems rather difficult to find this capability!
Thanks

I have been setting up shows with normal EQ's and using Para Eq's for the picky stuff but for home equipment most people will not have a clue how to do it, and if we want HT and 2 channel to grow we need a decent system like Anthems ARC. At last someone get;s it , just because the system is Flat does not make it sound good. Flat is a nice place to start from then tune from there by ear (which takes most people years to learn and it does not take much tweaking from flat to get it right IMO) . Hopefully from what I have read this new system Emo has should make things good for all of us both old timers and newbies. I really do not want to mess around tuning my house by ear , getting lazy I guess and you only really need to do it once at home and you are done. I think I would have bought the 7030 had it had ARC, all else looks pretty good.

So just so I am sure, you can't set the Oppo 103 HDMI audio to "bitstream" you have to set it to "Auto" for it to decode DTS correctly? Do I have that right? Any other issues using a 7030 and the Oppo 103 that I should be aware of? I have been waiting for the XMC-1 but since it has been pushed into next year my UMC-1 is just killing me, last night was kind of the last straw with it. And the UMC-200 is no longer available so thought I might just go with the 7030...but not if there are issues with it and the Oppo 103. Thanks!

No issues with an oppo phicar ; my modded 83 loves feeding it and its abt upscaling isn't touched by the 7030 . Set the audio to 'bitstream' and the pt7030 will decode it [both lossless dts hdma and lossy dts and the dolby codecs] - you will know when the 7030 says the codec on it's large display . If you want the oppo to decode set it for lpcm .'Auto' is for the video resolution output so the best matching resolution for your display is picked . There is another auto setting for 24p which is the frame rate for most bluray discs I sold my 95 but I think possibly you may be referring to the oppo dts essentials decoder which couldn't decode rarer dts-es ;matrix etc dvds so best to bitstream ; the 7030 handles those codecs no sweat

I was referring to this post which is on the 6th page of this thread: A quick note for those connecting a OPPO to the 7030. I couldn't get SACD or DTS encoded movies to play, and could not find any settings in the 7030 to be configured. Found that in the OPPO setup, you must configure for AUTO for Audio out (Movie and SACD). Once you do, all CD/DVD/BluRay/SACD/FLAC movies/audios will be correctly selected by the 703 and played. I thought I was going to have to connect the 7.1 out to the 7.1 in to get things to work properly, and while that is still an option, it is not a necessity. So, the Anthem MRX-500 is now out of the equipment rack, and the 7030 is taking over all duties. Next job is to get the XPA-1 amps hooked up and see how the Sherbourn Pre works with pure stereo. So I just wanted to be 100% sure before I pulled the trigger on this. Like I said my patience with my UMC-1 after almost 3 years has finally run out and I was hoping I'd have the XMC-1 by now (like many others I know) but based on Emofest news that XMC-1 is now February not sure I can wait that long with my UMC-1 and the feedback I got from the awesome Emo folks was the following (see below). I don't honestly know what I am giving up in full balanced output. I would assume the audio quality for movies won't be a night and day difference between the 7030 and the XMC-1 and pretty much all I watch are blu-ray so video shouldn't be any different between the two so I might just skip the XMC-1 and get the 7030 now and the RMC-1 in a few years... "Thank you for being a valued Emotiva customer. The PT-7030 is a great preamp/processor and is going to have a lot of similarities to the XMC-1 once it releases. The biggest differences are going to be the the XMC-1 will be a full balanced output for 2-channel stereo and the XMC-1 will use the new Dirac room correction system that we are currently putting into the processor.:

Ah ; thats a new option released for the current players phicar ;depends on what you want to play over hdmi ; as before bitstream is fine for blurays dvd's and sacd's [you have to select pcm in the sacd output menu for those as the 7030 requires that - it hasnt got dsd dac's] . If you have flac files you want to play select auto as the 7030 doesnt have a flac decoder [tried some on a thumbdrive the other day ] Thats a very nice option oppo has provided ;utilising the hdmi edid communication to know what to send :)From the manual - The 7030 is an even bigger value now especially if you arent a big 2ch audio listener and prefer multichannel . And you get 2 hdmi outs now

I was waiting for the XMC-1 as well, but the deals of late on the 7030 and recent house repairs have pretty much taken the life out of my expected XMC-1 purchase and really the 7030 is a great unit IMO, and for $999 I can barely even get a mid level box store receiver here in Canada lol. Oh and the Oppo 103 goes great with the 7030, I use HDMI 1 to the TV and HDMI 2 to the 7030, have my settings as Bitstream for audio and all is great, I watched Oblivion yesterday as I was home alone and had the volume up at 65 on the 7030 and was in audio/video heaven, Oblivion is now in my top 10 for Sci-fi movies, love the soundtrack and how it flows with the movie and it sounded exceptional through the 7030... I'm either going to pull the trigger on the 7030 and then wait for the RMC-1 or grab a UMC-200 (which appears to be available again, odd as it said "unavailable" yesterday morning) and then the XMC-1 next year...decisions decisions...

Chad Hi Chad, I'm also a Oppo103/Sherbourn 7030 owner. I'm having problem with hdmi input/output between the 2 units. On the Oppo, I did the same thing, you said HDMI1 out to TV, HDMI 2 out to Oppo (split dual). On the 7030, HDMI 1 out to Oppo HDMI in (back). My Cable box, Apple TV can use any HDMI input from 3 to 6 of the 7030 and work fine. But when I connect them to either HDMI input 1 or 2 on 7030, only sounds work, no picture. I went to the setup menu (of 7030) all settings are the same in all inputs. Have you experience similar issues? Any helps would be wonderful. Thanks! -Phuong

- HDMI 2 to PT-7030

I'm glad to be here, thanks much for helping out Chad. Yes, there is definitely a typo in my last post. Here is my current inputs set up: Oppo HDMI outs: - HDMI 1 to TV - HDMI 2 to PT-7030 PT-7030 HDMI out: -HDMI 1 out to Oppo HDMI in (back) PT-7030 HDMI in: (here is the troubles appears with HDMI 1 and 2) Let's says -HDMI 1 Oppo -HDMI 2 Cable Box -HDMI 3 Apple TV
This result with no picture for Cable Box while Apple TV works fine. Once I switch Cable Box and Apple TV then the same problem happens with Apple TV and Cable Box works fine. Basically besides Oppo, no other devices can use HDMI 1 and HDMI 2 in on PT-7030. Now, I just leave HDMI 2 empty and use the rest from 3 to 6 to connect all my devices to PT-7030. The manual of PT 7030 says HDMI 1 is dedicated to Reference Stereo and HDM2 for Turner, making curious that maybe some setting I need to change. This is a huge step-up to have PT-7030, XPA-5 replacing my Sony DN1010 receiver. Though I'm still a novice, I gotta say the new gears are amazing. My only complain is that they make me want to upgrade the speakers. Btw, do you have any idea that the PT-7030/Oppo works with Logitech Harmony 900 remote control?

I would say don't have the PT-7030 HDMI out into the Oppo as I don't see a need for that, I have my Motorola PVR set top box connected to the rear HDMI in on the Oppo so it will upscale the 720p of the motorola to 1080p(not sure if it makes any difference lol), and also I am using the HDMI 1 and 2 inputs of the 7030 with no problems so it might be your settings. As far as the harmony remotes go I have a Harmony 650 that sits collecting dust, I couldn't get it programmed for the 7030 online so not sure if Logitech has any codes yet, maybe you could manually do it but I'm too lazy lol. Hi hibikill ; you are in a loop as Chad has indicated ; everything communicates with the next component in line with hdmi so that's why things didn't work . I would use the hdmi ins of the oppo for any components that have source direct so the oppo can deinterlace and scale as needed . If your cable box switches between 480i;720p and 1080i channels and you have to pick a output resolution in it's menu your only scaling twice with different methods most likely [theres many types of deinterlacing both good -oppo - and bad - the cable box ] . If that's the case just use the 7030's hdmi in as its one less box to passthrough and it will be a lot easier to switch with your harmony Just go to myharmony [if that's your download site] the pt7030 codes are there ; my 650 runs well after some reassigned buttons work ;I prefer using the hard buttons

Can I ask a favor of 7030 users? If someone has the Disney WOW bluray, can they run the speaker ID audio tones and post their results? It should be run bitstreamed from player and have the processor decode the DTS-MA track. Thanks in advance.

After month of listening to the PT-7030 I've tried a couple of variations. With the UMC-1 I preferred the HDMI input for everything including CDs. With the PT-7030 the S/PDIF is definitely better for CD playback than the HDMI. Using the PRE-1 as a phono preamp going into the balanced #1 inputs of the PT-7030 the sound is amazing. The PT-7030 is an amazing analog preamp.

I myself have never noticed any issues with the PT-7030 decoding DTS-MA, for example in Tron Legacy when Sam jumps off the building and the Heli is flying around I'm getting L&R sound from my rear speakers as I should and yes I have the Oppo set to Bitstream for the HDMI settings.
