I've been listening to mine for a little over an hour.
So far the sound seems more natural than my ERC 2, the loading tray works well, better than the slot loader.
It seems as if I can play at louder volumes without distortion.
I like what I'm seeing and hearing so far.

Yes, the DC1 is being used as DAC and Pre.
I'm preferring what I'm hearing so far vs the ERC2

Yeeehaaa, I just received a shipping notification. It'll be interesting to see how long UPS takes in comparison to FedEx, hopefully faster than 11 days. Update, UPS tracking advises delivery Thursday 19th December that's 6 days door to door, let's see if they are more accurate than FedEx, Cheers Gary |

Think I may have gotten the last one or close to it. Website now says out of stock. Mine is supposed to be delivered Tuesday. Soon to be followed by two xpa-1s. Curious but recently seems to be a lot of xpr's on eBay. May have cannibalized the market for xpr's with the new xpa

I've tried the analog outs when I had the XSP, but didn't take a long enough listen.
But from what I remember, the difference to me wasn't very significant..

I just got my ERC-3 set up today. In a set up consisting of an XPA-2 Gen 2, and XDA-2 as a preamp and DAC this sounds fantastic pumping sound through my Infinity SM 152 speakers. I have not noticed a significant improvement over the similar set up in my other room that employs a XPA-2 Gen 1, XDA-2 and ERC-2 running through a pair of Infinity SM150's but either way these systems sound amazing for both musical harmonies and rock music alike. Kudos to Emotiva for offering up such awesome....and awesomely priced....products!
Now, if you'll excuse me I am off to listen a little more...

Teaman...I don't think you should expect an improvement from the ERC-3 over the ERC-2 as you have it set up. The ERC-3 has a better analog output stage than the ERC-2 and the XDA-2, but if you are feeding digital out from the ERC-3 to the XDA-2...you won't benefit from that change.

I agree Mark, not really expecting better sound output. I am running this ERC-3 system through a toslink whereas the other system is linked via Canare AES/EBU cable...I may try the AES/EBU in this system too. I definitely prefer the disc drawer over the slot load of the last gen CD player though. I would say the ERC-3 feels firmer and more audiophile grade...and less of the in-a-car feel to it with the new drawer load.

Do you have a pre-amp? You will need volume control to give the analog out a try, and I don't see that ability in your system other than via the XDA-2.

In my set up, the only improvement was the tray mechanism , I had issues with a rattling sound when CD 's are played using the ERC-2. That's maybe why things sound more natural....lol |
