Thanks garbulky, I may give the analog set up a try. Just remember that youy need a volume ontrol. And if you use a reciever or avr to do it then you have to make sure it's a direct analog and not using a digital volume control or something as that will automatically make it the reciever's dacs and not the erc-3. The ideal volume control would be a pre-amplifiier of some sort.

Teaman...I don't think you should expect an improvement from the ERC-3 over the ERC-2 as you have it set up. The ERC-3 has a better analog output stage than the ERC-2 and the XDA-2, but if you are feeding digital out from the ERC-3 to the XDA-2...you won't benefit from that change. Mark I too agree. In my set up, the only improvement was the tray mechanism , I had issues with a rattling sound when CD 's are played using the ERC-2. That's maybe why things sound more natural....lol Hmmm... That rattling sound is unusual based on my experience with my ERC-1/ERC-2. Both CD players received heavy usage and I have never heard any unusual sounds coming from them. The only noise I had with either of them was inserting and ejecting the disks. There was no noise during the time music was playing. Does the ERC-3 have a metal tray assembly or is it plastic? I remember Lonnie saying the reason they went with a slot loader on the ERC-1 was because there were no high quality plastic drawer loaders available. He felt they were too cheaply made. The only thing I found to be an issue with the Emotiva slot loaders was that it took a more deliberate effort to properly load a CD via the slot. Everything else on the ERC-1/ERC-2 was beyond reproach. I use my ERC-2 heavily and very please with it, in every way. Great sounding, outstanding build quality, and very attractive. I love my Emotiva CD Players.

Update, UPS tracking advises delivery Thursday 19th December that's 6 days door to door, let's see if they are more accurate than FedEx, So far, so good, my ERC-3 is already at the UPS world wide hub in Louisville KY, one day to get out of TN, that's 3 days faster than FedEx. Wow, I don't know why Emotiva changed to UPS, but if it's faster delivery to Australia then it's working so far. My ERC-3 is already at the UPS deport at Botany, customs clearance and a half hour trip on a local delivery truck is what's left, all of 6 days faster than FedEx. From Louisville via Honolulu to Sydney in one day, amazing. I'd better get my ship together tonight and reorganise the rack, move the sub amp and change the shelf spacing ready for the ERC-3. Cheers Gary

Just got my player. All hooked up and listening now. Too soon to say how much an improvement but there is one. Wondering what is going to happen in about 50 hours of burn in. So far sounds very promising. Noticing slightly more openness and better placement of instruments. The highs seem a bit more detailed. I seem to get a better note decay on a large bass drum beat. (Best of Third Force track # 5 Chant) Only been listening for about 1/2 hour so far, so this is just a very early preliminary.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa..............everyday I get reminded why I hate freight forwarders.
It took 3 days to get from Franklin to Botany (Sydney) and it's been sitting there, not moving, for 3 days. So today I called UPS to find out why.........their answer.......wait for it............because Emotiva paid for 7 days delivery, meaning the 19th (that's tomorrow). According to UPS they didn't pay enough for it to be delivered on the 18th (that's today), let alone that it could have been delivered on the 16th. You have got to be kidding me! They let it sit in their warehouse taking up space for 3 days, unbelievable.
WTF happened to exceeding customer expectations, I'm stunned.
Cheers Gary

Cheers Gary That's why I NEVER get anything early from UPS... I've had the same thing happen to me, in which the status report will show an item has arrived at the local sort facility and since it is early it just sits there until the time it was scheduled for delivery. With FedEx and USPS, I have gotten things ahead of schedule. UPS sucks. I order a lot of stuff from Amazon and they normally use those three carriers plus Ontrac. When I find out my order is being shipped by UPS, I just shudder because in my experience, that's the slow way. I never expect any pleasant earlier delivery if it is with them.

But wait there's more...........are you ready..............the UPS Delivery Driver just turned up with my ERC-3. "Hello, I just got off the phone and they told me it wouldn't/couldn't be delivered until tomorrow." "Nah mate, it's "Expedited" they always get delivered on Wednesdays".
I'll just look on the bright side, I have it, in 6 days, that's 5 days better than FedEx.
Cheers Gary

So how does it sound I wish I knew, I'm at work, so it's going to have to wait until I get home tonight. I did the obligatory unpack and check, it looks in perfect condition, very nice, just like the photos and videos. The remote is IMPRESSIVE a solid piece of aluminiumness. No flimsy plastic battery cover, it comes with its own screwdriver to disassemble for replacing the batteries. If it sounds as good as looks then it's gunna be good. Testing in 5 hours, 15 minutes and 10 seconds.....9 seconds....8 seconds........ Cheers Gary

Up here in the Pacific Northwest (Seattle area) it's been sitting in the UPS warehouse in 'Redmond' since 3:45am. I could have picked it up at the Pacific distribution building if they had let me know that it's been probably sitting there since 8am. but noooooooooo. So Your not alone. UPS sucks the big one. I'm surprised by all the UPS hate. Do people really feel that FedEx is that much better?
I prefer Fedex - but the reality is that they're basically the same to me. Generally consistent and not much to say.
Still curious if anyone has some information on if Emotiva has shifted to UPS. I might email sales if nobody has any info.
