Interesting article for sure, quite the contrast to Bob, can't wait for part 2. Thanks for the link.

I'll pay $100 each for "euphonics, nostalgia, and wishful thinking" either in the tube amps or in the Emo TT (or the $280 u-turn audio TT).:-)

A little surprised they mentioned Red Rose. Quite a few "ML designed products" were nothing more than rebadged gear.

Excellent interview. The new speakers look incredible but are a bit out of my budget. Agree or not his comments about tube amplification has merit. I appreciate his straightforward answers and his purist approach based on science. Quite frankly a true audiophile minus the BS.

Marketing is the ability to convince people to buy your product regardless of it's actual merits or shortcomings.
Mark and Bob are both talented designers--and Pi$$ poor business men.

That was a good read. I heard a mark Levinson system with Klipsch Horns and Hersays It is the system that turned me into an audio junkie many years ago.

Emotiva is simply the production/fab house just like ATI does for a bunch of design houses. Emotiva is simply building/testing the units for Carver. No offense to Bob but I know for a fact he's stenciled gear and used third party ODM products he simply rebadged. His old Sunfire processors are a case in point. ATI makes a lot of amps for BIG NAMES. I've seen amps from companies I won't name that were ATI designs simply stuck in a fancy looking chassis and sold at margins approaching 500-1000%. I have no problem with people quadrupling their BOM but to sell at TEN TIMES or MORE the BOM is dishonest IMHO. I'm not saying Bob's outfit does this but the entire boutique "high-end" industry is rife with this dishonesty and BS.

Owhh wait Dan bought Bob's company.
"If you build it they will come."
I'll bite my lip now about tubes and LPs.
PS I feel like Chef, "Let's kill'em all... shoot the sh** outta them... Why the hell not! (sniffle) F'em"

Don't think so--both have had multiple companies go belly up. The detail in in leaving someone else holding the bag I guess--I know Bob left me holding several bricked amps worth their weight in scrap metal.

I'm sure Bob would be willing to give you a schematic and a history of the piece where failure is likely. Then you just take it to your local friendly TV repair house and the dude would fix it for you unless some strange no longer manufactured part is involved. Do you still have the amps? I bet they could be repaired for little money.

A pair of "cubes" under warranty which are long gone. But the bad taste remains--enough on this subject The point remains though--what you are selling has to seem like the best choice.

I love tubes and I love turntables. I have fond memories of both of them together. I understand all the reasons why they are outdated in today's world but I am going to have me some fun with both when they come out here. Dan is old hippie like me and I am digging that he is comming out with both. I imagine there is going to be bunch of people that want to revisit this gear.

I own a pair of "hot-rodded" 305 tube amps, and the sound is nothing short of glorious. They are by far and hands down the best amps I have ever owned.
I appreciate ML's thoughts, but he is not even in the same league as Bob when it comes to design. ML's greatest skill is that he built a brilliant name for himself attaching his name to the work of others. While Bob did do some of that himself, I know for a fact that the processors of Sunfire started life as Sunfire designs. He shared production costs by selling the design to others. Bob has been doing amps since the summer of 1969.
I know much of the back story of The Vacuum Tube Company, but that is not something I am at liberty to share here, but lets just say that Bob is truly a great guy to be able to call a friend. And for the guy that had the M400's that crashed.. If you were to give Bob a call rather than turn to trashing him, he would have likely fixed them for you for free. That's just how he rolls these days.
