Personally I think the MBL Radialstrahler 101E Mk.II are the best speakers I've heard so far. They sounded absolutely amazing and look like nothing else on earth. Oh, and the WAF? Through the roof! Is this a propane device for killing mosquitos in the backyard?

I am always curious to know what speakers like this sound like. Surely, they cannot sound like traditional speakers filled with drivers. My guess is that the ported box at the bottom would contain a traditional subwoofer for the lows and the top part serves the mids and highs?

^Yes the box at the bottom is a subwoofer and there was no other sub used. These sounded better than even more expensive speakers at Axpona. FLACs played from a laptop sounded absolutely stunning. These are omnidirectional speakers that fill the room with sound. If money was no object (unfortunately it certainly is! ) I would buy these and MBL monoblocks for a killer 2-channel system.

MBL Radialstrahler's are by far the best sounding speakers I have ever experienced and I too would own a system (and build a custom room for them) if money was no object - although I'd want the full-on Extreme system as shown in the video, not the 101's. But I never thought they were particularly attractive...

They look more like some sort of exotic lamps and not your typical box-style speakers.

I know "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder", but I'm amazed at what some of you consider as good looking speakers.

I have long had a sweet spot in my heart for Ohm speakers. I owned a set of Walsh 2s back in the day* and they were truly remarkable speakers - the width of their sweet-spot is un-matched by any other speaker I know of. And they are time and phase coherent and produce an incredible soundstage. Also, because of their small footprint, they are very easy to place in most rooms. I find them to be very attractive speakers in an understated, elegant way... -RW- * Ohm had a special deal for salesmen back then - you could buy a pair of the Walsh 2s in any real wood veneer you liked - oak, walnut, and rosewood were available. And the price? Oh man, the price!! They were $225/pr. delivered - w00t!!! Retail was $750, IIRC...

RW,
I also had a pair of Ohm Walsh 2 speakers in oak, and a pair of Ohm L2 in walnut. In fact, I was a salesperson at Tech Hifi back in the day. Ohm was the "house brand."
I always did love them...especially the Ohm F, which I could never afford.

Yep, my Ohm 2s were also in the oak veneer. I really loved those speakers, they sounded better than anything else near the price...
