I just set these up ...purchased from ....pdaddy (thank you!!)
I am going to listen a bit longer before a full review, but so far so incredible!! my behringer a202 DAC comes in tomorrow so i want that in the chain before i also put thoughts down on computer...so stay tuned!!
OK I have these badboys, on hockey pucks (to act as decoupler and risers) I went from going 2 high in the pic to now 8 high...much better sound as it is at ear level. They form a perfect equilateral triangle at about 2.5 feet. My source is Pandora One desktop (higher bitrate) through USB--->Behringer a202 DAC--->RCA's to Airmotiv4's
First off no matter how you slice it i am blown away by the clarity, separation, imaging, detail and 3d sound from these. They are impressive for the size and price. although even slightly off axis both horizontal and vertical the sound degrades, but while sitting at my desk typing this with some pink floyd playing...they are sublime.
I ran a bunch of different types of music through them...this is from the notes i took:
"the way you look tonight" -frank Sinatra Incredible imaging -great phantom center effect...horns and sax are far out to the outer part of the sound stage...very nice. Bass response while not overpowering was nice for near field listening...especially since I am in a school and don't want to disturb the nearby classrooms
"back to Manhattan" - Norah Jones
Tap of highhat/ride is as if the cymbal is right in front of me (I played the drums for 12 years) fantastic imaging - strong high end detail without sounding harsh
"Cozz Frenzy" -bassnectar
electronica part is crystal clear! - bass started to thin out as volume went up...
"too much time on my hands" - Styx
opening drum imaging from center to left to right...was great!
-Now this was all in my office which is SUPER reflective...but I think the nearfield placement helps out to reduce the effects of the room
-SUPER cheesy volume button...think dollar store quality...yuck
overall i couldnt be more pleased with these speakers...the price is a steal for them...they now have me VERY intrigued about possibly going stealth 8's (or even 88's) when I build my dediacated HT in my basement...
feel free to ask any questions!!
