I had the same problem with my speakers. So as intermediate solution I used 4 packages of copy paper per speaker to lift the speakers. It worked so well that I think the intermediate solution will stay as a permanent solution.
By the way my desktop setup consists of two GoldenEar Aon2 speakers connected to an Arcam AVR350. As an audio player I'm using Foobar with the WASAPI pluging and 20 band Graphic Equalizer used to flatten the response curve which I measured with Room analyzer system of XTZ. Really great and detailed sound without being harsh.
