The Jimmy Page remasters are excellent but to me the best sounding is still the Barry Diament 80s mastering cds. They are warmer sounding, and more enjoyable to my ears with the better dynamic range. If you don't want to track down the originals then go with the Page remasters. They are better than the 90s George Marino remasters. I have all three. The Diaments only get played on the home audio system. The other two I play in the car, and on my laptop at work. As we know this can be debated until eternity, so I won't go into that here. Opinions will vary. Heck, the debates over which vinyl sounds better than another are crazy with details and variations of versions. What I will say is that when you start labeling the digital remasters, then you need to be slightly more specific or it will confuse some people. These last ones were not done by Jimmy Page alone. 80's CDs only = Barry Diament 1990 = George Marino supervised by Jimmy Page Mid 201x teens = John Davis supervised by Jimmy Page If you want to go further, then we need to bring Kevin Shirley into the discussion, as he did the remastered TSRMTS, Mothership, and HTWWW (of which Mothership is easily the undebatable worst mastering, and HTWWW isn't great either). According WIK, Jon Astley did the original BBC stuff in the late 90's. John Davis also did the Celebration Day release. I appreciate the more detailed info. And I totally agree with the Shirley Mothership and HTWWW remasters. They are by far the worst of the bunch.

Please know I didn't intend it to be that way, or that I was lecturing you in any way. My intent was just to clarify things a bit for others who were asking. Sorry if I sounded like I was harping. Bottom line, if we are discussing masters of the original albums, then I think we could possibly go ultra simple now and call them Original / Diament / Marino / Davis versions. There is more to it than that, but that's the most basic way to look at it. I think maybe we've discussed this before. I agree with you about the Diaments. I really like those versions. I can't tell myself why exactly, but I do. It could be that I just enjoy that sound. Or perhaps that it's not so in your face. Or that they can be turned up without causing fatigue. Or perhaps since it's the sound I grew up listening to, it's the sound I'm used to. Or perhaps it's just a combination of all these things. I dunno, but I still listen to them. I would however, describe the Davis versions as more audiophile in nature. They have what some might call a veil lifted from the recordings. They are super clear, and have that "air" quality to them. There are things in the Davis masterings you just can't hear in the Diaments. Being a true Zep Head, I would say at the very least people should own both Diament and Davis. The Marinos used to be the alternative, but I think the Davis versions trump Marinos, and sort of fix what was wrong with both the Diaments and the Marinos at the same time. If I were giving a modern teenage kid LZ to listen to for the first time, I dunno. I'd probably give him the Davis stuff. Because to a modern kids ears louder is better. The Davis stuff is louder than the Diaments, but it's still got huge dynamic shifts. And I could certainly hear a modern kid saying the Diaments "sound old fashioned." So yeah, probably the Davis stuff. Cheers ---- Bonzo

I did not take offense at all. Yes we've discussed this before. The Diaments while not perfect just resonate with me better. But that doesn't take away from the Davis remasters either. It is excellent sounding. You can hear things in it you can't with the Diaments. I sure wished I could have seen them live in concert. If only I was born a decade earlier. I'm a glutton so had to have all the versions in my collection. And I'm still collecting bootlegs to add more. LZ and Jimi Hendrix is by far the two that I have the most studio and bootleg recordings in my collection. I love the live recordings. They are far from perfect but both did their magic live and it is great to hear all the different recordings at different venues and different years.

Interesting led Zeppelin info. About recordings, thanks both of you. Led Zeppelin's whole lotta love tour was my first live rock concert. A good way to start imho.

I didn't take it as harsh or lecturing. You were giving more info that would be of help to someone else for getting the cds. I did not take offense at all. Great. Me too. They played the infamous 1977 Pontiac Silverdome show just 10 minutes from my house when I was only 7 years old. I didn't even know who they were. That took about 5 or 6 years later. I've seen Page solo once, JPJ twice, Robert 9 times, and Page & Plant 20 times. Me too! I totally agree. The live stuff is "where it's at" as people used to say. I used to collect every boot I could get my hands on back when they were only silvers. But then life took over in the late 90's and I sort of left it behind. I missed the entire vine tree thing with trading, and the internet stuff. I've tried torrenting but can't seem to figure it out. I'd like to have more that's for sure. But as life moves forward I also find I just don't actually listen to it as much as I used to either. I guess I don't need it that much. Not good or bad, fortunate or unfortunate, just the way it is. Funny how that is. But I do have a good basic selection of boots from each tour that at least gives representation to how things moved and changed along the way. I also like the outtake stuff. Hiawatha Express and Tribute To Johnny Kid & The Pirates are two of my favorites.

Bonzo , which vinyl BBC Sessions do I want to purchase. In your opinion which is the best recordings? Comments? Advice? Thanks! Just based off of completeness alone, CD or Vinyl, if I were only buying one I'd buy the new ones. The first set released back in the late 90's was a big disappointment to most fans because it's so hacked and chopped, both in editing and songs. Most of us had heard all the bootlegs, so we knew there was so much more, and we knew the songs were different in reality. This new set attempts to fix a lot of that. It's certainly not perfect, and it's still hacked and chopped, but not nearly as bad. Add that it also includes a few extra surprises and it's for sure the way to go if it's only one set you want. I don't think you are interesting in collecting as much as listening, but if you are, then seeking out the 200 gram Classic Records release of the original is a good bet, if you can find it. Here's a link to the super deluxe set, which comes with all the vinyl, CD's, a book, and a card for a hi-rez flac download. If you just want the vinyl, then click on the little box on the right for the vinyl only. It's all 5 new discs, so you won't miss a thing musically. www.amazon.com/Complete-Sessions-Super-Deluxe-Vinyl/dp/B01INFZN9G/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&qid=1468933661&sr=8-6&keywords=led+zeppelin+bbc+sessions&linkCode=ll1&tag=rhino.web-20&linkId=0b9ee0f6e8ae9ef51e578f08a4c6aea8

Opinions vary even within the Zep fan world, but for me the one that really pops out is the first album. Very much more "live" in the room sort of sound than before.

I first heard of these new guys back in the beginning of May, and it now appears they are gaining some nationwide traction. So I figured I'd post this here so you too can be on the cutting edge of another heavily Led Zeppelin influenced band on the attack, this time from my home state of Michigan (Frankenmuth is where they are from). Total rip off. Zero originality but they do sound outstanding. Joshua is definitely one of the best Plant impersonators that I've heard in a long time. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and Greta Van Fleet does it right. I will have to keep tabs on this band. I appreciate the heads up on the band.

His voice reminds me of a band from the 80's called KIX. They only had one big hit from their 3rd album I believe, which was, go figure, IMO, their worst stuff. The best album was their first. Here's a song that shows his voice reminding of me of this guy from GVF. And yeah, it's like GVF took 3 Zep tunes for each song and melded them together. The one track has an ending very similar to Thank You. I almost expected the organ to fade out then come back in again. EDIT: Here's is KIX's only big hit. Crappy pop rock if you ask me. They were better when they were younger.

They appear to be at least one of the hottest summer 2017 bands. I can't recall the last time such a large variety of friends has emailed or texted me regarding a band, or music in general for that matter. I wouldn't say they are great by any means. Unoriginal as hell. But it is a little refreshing have some rock and roll back in style. I'll be keeping my ears on them in the future. The world could use some excitement the likes of when GNR hit the scene.

Greta Van Fleet - LIVE 2017 Figured since these heavily Zep influenced guys seem to be the hot ticket in the summer of 2017 I'd go looking for more tunes and see what they sound like live. Here's a list of what I found so far, put in order and identified as well as I can without doing true research.
(NOTE: You may want to skip through to find the quality you want because as usual with youtube, it varies quite a bit. They also seem to get a bit better as time goes by and they get more practice)
