First stereo I had in the early 70s was a PANASONIC all in one stereo/turntable/cassette deck. Then I discovered "real" stereo equipment. My first real system was a Sansui 771 receiver, Dual 1219 turntable with Stanton 681E cartridge and a pair of BIC Large Venturi loudspeakers. The Sansui 771 was traded for a newer Kenwood receiver that crapped out and was fixed under warranty, then replaced by a Sansui 8080DB (that I wish I still had.) The BIC speakers were traded for the original Large Advents with the nice real walnut veneer cabinets and solid walnut front edge moldings. The Advents were later traded in for the original Polk Model 10 loudspeakers. The Dual lasted for a while. Then I discovered "Hi End" and everything got traded up over the next couple of years to SAE and SUMO amp/preamp/tuner separates and the Polk 10s traded for original DCM Time Windows, that were later traded for DCM Time Window Threes. The Dual TT got replaced by a Pioneer Series 20 PLC590 TT with PLC590 carbon fiber arm running a Dynavector Ruby. I still have the PLC590/PA1000 TT/Arm combo and the only legitimate way I will part with it is for someone to buy it from my estate. Its that good. Still have the Time Window Threes too, but that are relegated to rear channel HT service now.

My first piece of gear was a Sansui 500A stereo (yes we had stereo back then!) receiver bought at the Naval Exchange in Japan in 1966. It was a tube receiver with 20wpc that sounded sweet. I didn't have the money at the time for speakers so that had to wait - I used headphones for a couple of months till I could score some nice speakers I think I had it for about 5-6 years - played it with a pair of used AR-2ax speakers picked up from a guy I knew. About a year later I bought a Gerard TT from another guy. I wish I had kept that setup - minus the TT - it wasn't very good. I may yet buy another one if I can find the right one. And a second hand store near me has some AR-2ax speakers for sale. I auditioned them. They sound very nice - just like the ones I used to have.
Ah yes - the good ole days. That old stuff sounded as good as the gear we have today - at least in my mind!

My first stereo technically would be a Lloyds all in one 4 channel system when I was 11 12 years old that Dad handed down as he upgraded . But the first system I paid for was , a Harman Kardon HK503 integrated amplifier (trade in) , a set of Technics SBF1 speakers (new) , a Pioneer Pl300 turntable with a TOTL Empire MM cartridge (new) the model number escapes me . The first upgrade was replacing the Technics with a pair of Leak 3030 speakers and at the time (1980) super high end Polk Sound Cables . After that I went crazy and went through a small mountain of different gear . I owned about 200 pieces in 30 years . Now I still Love gear but concentrate on more music than more gear . I need a NEW cd player and it will be the Emotiva ERC3 . LOL and I keep thinking about a pair a largish floor speakers in my system .

My first stereo was a Panasonic SE-8147 A/M & F/M, 8-track player with included Panasonic SB-180 Thruster speakers. The speakers were sealed and each contained a 6 1/2" full ranger driver and a 6 1/2" passive radiator. I had paper route and used my Christmas tips to pay for it. (Late 1970s) 10 watts, look out! no really, how sweet that must have been. Big man on the block I'm sure. thanks for the memories! Nick

Hard to remember as it's been so long but I believe it was the Yamaha AX-730 or something along those lines with DB+ 1010 speakers. Tape deck would have been Technics but couldn't say what model. Definitely got loud enough to annoy the neighbours. Things only got worse when I had some Electro-Voice SH1512 (or similar). That kind of became a problem as it took up most of my room and really pissed of the parents haha.

Trey I have a pair of Radio Shack Optimus LX10 Pro speakers that I use for test speakers. They have to same tweeters, but have dual woofers. Tweeters are a love/hate issue for me. Some things sound good, others no so. I thought of replacing them with ribbons?
