Bought In 1979. Pioneer SX-780, EPI 120c speakers and they threw in a Phillips turntable. I still had the speakers until 2009.

I had a cheap Panasonic stereo through high school, but then took advantage of being in the Army in Europe in the early 80's to put together a good stereo. Most of this stuff lasted deep into the 90's while I raised kids. Yamaha C70 preamp. Sound Craftsmen A5002 power amp Yamaha T70 tuner Pioneer linear tracking TT ADC equalizer with spectrum analyzer (early room correction) DBX 3BX Dynamic Range Expander DBX subharmonic synthesizer JBL L150 speakers I also owned a Yamaha cassette deck and one of the first four CD players in the world, but can't remember the brand, Technics maybe. Who knows... You can see with all the sound processors, purity of signal wasn't a priority for me. But when I was 20 years old this baby rocked! Most of these are still prized by the vintage croud today.

Yeah, and the Pio was decent enough too but the Garrard was quickly replaced by an AR manual!

In 1977, when I was 10, my dad and I spent a few weeks looking for the best Stereo we could buy. We ended up Buying: Harmon Kardon 730 NAD 202 Turntable Akai reel to reel Harmon Kardon Tape Deck IMF Super Compact speakers
Ten years later my dad gave me the system when I moved out... That is how it all started and why I am a Tranmission line speaker fan...

My first stereo was when I was about 14 years old. I had a Marantz 1030, Garrard Model 442 and a shure M95ed, and a pair of Magnum Opus 10" two way speakers. Had a pair of Koss 4AA headphones. Also a Akai GXC-39D top load cassett deck. Good stuff.
