Not counting a portable cassette player - which doesn't count because it wasn't stereo... My first stereo was a small stereo amplifier made by Lafayette Radio Electronics (that's what they were called back then). It went with a pair of 8" one-way speakers (which were about as horrible as you might think)... (The only source it was connected to was the headphone output on a 25" Sony Trinitron CRT TV.) Lafayette radio… Now that’s a name I have not heard in the longest time and like so many other young audio enthusiasts and electronic geeks, It was one of those places to go. I had to be a quick study just now and found out that CircuitCity (that I used to nickname, short circuit city) took them over for a period of time, until they both went belly up. According to what I read, they even had the hyphenated name that join the two entities at the hip.

The V15 seemed to be the most widely chosen cartridge for the XA….I don’t recall why I ended up with the Empire 999VE that seemed harsh with that arm and switched to the Stanton 681. That worked better. My brother also, though the 4ax was better for college. (Dorms)

Not my first... but I had several AR turntables over the early years. Very simple turntables... but with remarkably good performance. (Not a great arm... but some of the best Wow & Flutter and Rumble specs... and better than most models available today.) These pictures from the Internet identified it as a Garrard 210 That I salvaged from dad‘s old console stereo and created a makeshift base for it.
