I recall saying that Bob (Carver) likes small. But Bob is gone. So maybe small will not be as big a concern. 8)

One of these years, I need to wander into Emofest (ANONYMOUSLY) just to laugh at all the Lounge Lizard hijinks!

Did the earlier Emotive subs have a variable phase control or just a 0/180 switch? I'm looking for a new sub for a friend and am looking for something with variable phase control. They are variable and you can adjust from 0 to 180. Thank you.

I think they should make this subwoofer... (It takes the concept of a round sub to the 3rd dimension!)

the small sub did in fact need lots more power from an amp and also a heavier magnet to perform down to reasonable lower bass levels. And like I keep telling you Chuck, that's because that's how ELF designs that operate below the fs of the driver work. It's physics.

That was very enjoyable and brought back many memories. I used to go to the Mac clinics too and had several of my units tested. The test they showed in the video, if you look closely, is not for the coffee can amp but for a Bob Carver Phase Linear 700 amp. I presume they were using it as an example but at first I thought he was trying to say that was for the coffee can amp. I guess we have to take his word for it that the can amp did put out 300 watts per. Interesting story and also fun to hear talk of Bob's early days. The story on the sub was also interesting although quite incomplete. He failed to mention that the small sub did in fact need lots more power from an amp and also a heavier magnet to perform down to reasonable lower bass levels. In the video he sort of implies that the small sub can match performance with the much larger "visible" sub, which is simply not true. My friend has the top of the line Sunfire sub which about 5 years ago cost him $2300 and has a 2700 watt amp in an 11" cube enclosure. It has the active/passive driver design and performs admirably for its diminutive size (but no where near the 18Hz published spec with no reference dB). For $2300 today one can buy two subs from a number of different brands (SVS, Ryhtmik, PSA, etc.) each that far outperform the little sub. He hit it right on the head in explaining the motivation behind developing the mini sub in the first pace. They have been very successful at keeping peace in the home were the boss is really the boss! Bob has a great sense of humor and I look forward to watching the rest of the video. I was rather surprised at Scott Wilkinson's lack of knowledge on certain facts. Thanks again for the link!

And like I keep telling you Chuck, that's because that's how ELF designs that operate below the fs of the driver work. It's physics. You are apparently are educated but seem know little about HT sub enclosures. I have quoted many expert sources including sub manufacturers that confirm that the larger enclosure subs are superior in low end output, extension and lower distortion. You have failed to answer my quotes except to say those experts have their heads up there asses, nice guy! I really don't appreciate your condescending replies to my posts. Just give it up Mr. Yohn. I don't want any of your arrogant lectures on sub physics in response to my posts. Give your PC lectures and physics lectures to other members but not me. You are not the only one here that is educated. I was an Engineering and Mathematics major and have a Mensa level IQ. I don't have all the answers but I am not one of your students and I have backed up my claims about subs with quotes and facts and not smart ass comments as above and "I told you before." I have blocked you from sending me any more PM's. I have asked you before not to reply to my posts. I consider it harassment. I now ask that the Moderators to please ask you not to reply to my posts. I will reply to none of yours once you quit doing so. Fair enough?
