After careful research, I've decided to go with his 3 channel amp to drive my front 3 speakers. A few quick questions as this will be my first amp ever.
1) Do I get XLR to RCA or RCA to RCA?
2) Will the receiver be ample enough to power the rears accordingly or will they sound underpowered b/c the first 3 channels being amped.
3) In general , who has upgraded to this amp and heard a substantial difference with the speakers that I have.
Thanks for helping out this noob.

Welcome! 1. Go with good quality RCA - RCA interconnects. 2. Your receiver should be able to power the rear speakers handily. 3. Never had a Yamaha or Klipsch but I noticed a huge difference when I upgraded my Onkyo 807 to an XPA-5. I think you'll be happy.

Fantastic Geebo! Thanks! There have been many over at another forum (alpha, Victor, Sierra) telling me I do not need an amp because the Klipsch Speakers I have are 98-99db sensitive and that would be wasting my $$. Also, Would Blue Jean RCA cables suffice?

Hi, I own Klipsch and Emotiva and Yamaha, they combined together make a great system IMHO. Your Yamaha will take care of the surround duties as well as making sure they sound proper with the front trio. Klipsch will run on one AAA battery but boy, what headroom will do for them is amazing!!!!!!!!!
You are in for a treat! Believe me! Get back to us and let us know how you like your new system when it's all together. I'm sure you'll be very happy as a lark,,,,whatever that means,,,,,he,,,,,hee
Peace,
Nick

There have been a few people with Klipschh (I think novisnick is one) who drive theirs with powerful amplification. They seem to like it and have found good results with them. I'm not sure the need for high power amps with them but I do not own Klipsch and I've found real world experience and theory don't always gel. Also, I feel there is such a thing as sound quality from an amplifier which is different from the amount of power it can push. For instance both my UPA-2 and an XPA-2 I used were both loafing with my reasonably efficient 90db+ speakers. But the XPA-2 was the better amp in terms of sound quality.

So will the front 3 sound quality wise be better than the Yamaha?

I think you'll be more then satisfied with the XPA-3. The Yamaha is not putting out anywhere near as many watts as the Emo amp. There will be a very noticeable difference in SQ.
I do get some great dynamics from the larger amps but I have not purchased my end game speakers yet and have left that door open to almost any speaker, no matter what there power needs will be.i have pushed my Klipsch to 5 & 6 blue lights and they loved every bit of it. Klipsch are almost bullet proof when you put power to them.

The XPA-3 in my book is the best value dollar for dollar nothing comes even close to it. I have been in audio/video as far back as the late 60's and can say have had many AVR's and two channel Rec's, and not any of them could drive speakers as well as a well made amp and the XPA-3 is a well made amp You want your speakers in control of the music?. Not running out of power is a amp with a big power supply, lots of headroom your ears will bleed before the XPA-3 run's out of headroom.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I stumbled upon an Adcom 7700 on Craigslist for $450. How do the XPA and the adcom compare beside the 3 channel vs 5 ?

They been around a long time and are good amps at 450 not to bad. Before I went with EMO gear Adcom was at the top of my list. Went with EMO well value is also at the top of my list too. But yeah ADCOM amps are good.

Talked the guy down to $425 for the 5 channel Adcom 7700. WOW, What a difference! Bigger soundstage, accuracy, dynamics are bigger. I was on the fence of actually needing one or not because the Klipsch reference are 98db but all I can say is it is a drastic improvement.

Yes, you are right. After people were allowed to attack my decision to buy and amp, I fought back in the same way they attacked, and I got banned. Pretty sad. There a few anti-power, PRO AVR or nothing guys on there. FMW, AnryK and Zen Travelr. The mods are their buddies so if you frequent that site, be warned. They say any sound quality difference is all placebo effect. The one guy ArnyK, had a Denon 1913 or something of that nature...all of 300$. They pull out their SPL meters like it's a playboy mag. Just giving everyone a heads up on that pimp site.
