Hmmmm, I didn’t have to do that. My total cash in value was around 12k. Maybe things have changed since but I doubt it. Now, I did break it up into two different transactions just because I didn’t want the manager to be completely overwhelmed. The bank just did all the necessary paperwork and the gov sent me the checks. Basically I guess they dealt with the Treasury directly themselves. I think it's the individual bond amount, not the total that can't exceed $1K.

OK that makes sense. My bonds were all $100 EE denominations.

THEFT OF BILLIONS:
Blue Cross, Blue Shield Medical Insurance Company of Louisiana has been a mutual company since its inception. In a mutual company, the policyholders of the corporation are the actual OWNERS of the corporation.
This year, Blue Cross has notified policyholders (the owners) that the company is to be sold to an out-of-state stock company whose shareholders will hence own the company outright. The proceeds of the sale are to be distributed as follows: 9% refunded among policyholders / 91% to be invested in a mysterious "Foundation" that will (supposedly) exist to improve healthcare for all Louisiana residents.
Of course, no information is available on the Foundation. Missing information includes:
What will be the salaries of Foundation managers? What will be the ratio of overhead to distributions? What are the specific goals of the Foundation? Who decided in the first place to screw the owners out of more than 90% of the company value that they own?
Estimates of Blue Cross' value is $3.1 billion - proposed sale price is $2.5 billion.
Sounds like a Class Action suit is justified...

ANSWERS FROM THE BLUE CROSS SUIT CLASS ACTION ATTORNEY:
What are the salaries of the foundation managers? Not yet set but they have said they will hire an expert to set their salaries in line with what the salaries are at the other 25 largest foundations in the country. I am guessing around $450,000/year.
What is the overhead to distribution ratio for foundation assets? Unknown. But can you imagine how the trustees will be courted?
What are the priorities of the foundation? There are none. Nebulous goals. No limits.
What oversight will the foundation have? Zero. As in Zero.
Who decided in the first place that less than 10% of Blue Cross assets would be distributed to the owners? The board. The same board who will be paid $1.050,000 each if deal goes through. Gross conflict of interest.

Maybe I'm just getting to be more cranky in my old age, but... We're trying to cash savings bonds issued decades ago to my wife. The bonds are marked bearable to: Her father ORHer mother ORMy wife We did the paperwork, had my wife sign with notarization, and sent it in to the Treasury. They sent it back saying they also needed certified death certificates for my wife's mother and father! Apparently. the U.S. Treasury doesn't understand the meaning of the word "or." I could fight them on it, but it's easier to just get the death certificates and try again. Oh well... Try doing Business in Mexico. Wife goes down to sign some papers. Brings her Passport. Needs other docs. And A certified translation of the translation EARLIER certified......for some OTHER reason. And now? A vital personal sample and a fingernail clipping..... Bring that sh** back and it is something else again..... Every time you appear to conduct business it is SOMETHING ELSE you were not told about initially. I told the wife to get a WRITTEN COPY of all requirements to minimize the time spent in that pit trying to get her sisters paperwork straightened out..... And NO they to NOT Validate Parking.......

I find it utterly amazing that such blatant and large-scale theft can take place in this day and age. This is not secret or in any smoke-filled back room - this is open to the public. Yet the way it's been structured, there's a better than 50/50 chance that they'll get away with it. Ballots were sent to the policy holders to approve or disapprove of the deal. Yet all ballots that are not returned will automatically be counted as "yes" votes!
If 50% plus one of the ballots are "yes," then the theft is approved. The deal may well be done before any organized opposition can get started...

This thread is not "topic specific." It holds a wide variety of topics that I've found of interest over the years (many of which, otherwise, would have been "Green Room" topics). Yes, it makes this thread very long and disjointed, but as the first post explains, having this omnibus thread reduces my thread count and reduces the irritation of those who have no interest in my postings at all. Might I have done better to create my own blog elsewhere on the internet? Maybe, but I have found Emotiva Lounge members, in general, to be more intelligent, more erudite, and less likely to generate flame wars than the internet population in general. For these reasons, I've been able to obtain trustworthy advice and better insight into my questions here than in a more general venue.
I owe Emotiva and the Lounge moderators a deep debt of gratitude for tolerating my ramblings in this thread. They don't HAVE to put up with me (particularly when my comments are not complimentary to Emotiva). But they have abided me generously despite my eccentricities. Great thanks to them all!
But most of all, I owe a "thank you kindly" to all the bright and knowledgeable members of the Lounge who have informed me, enlightened me, and been tolerant of my irritability over the years. I get more useful information here than I do from YouTube (my secondary source of info).

California....and more specifically San Diego had the 'contract' with SEMPRA Energy come due. I do not know if ANY competitive bids were asked for OR submitted.......After some Minor BS, a new contract was signed. I'm filing a FOIA request for 'bidding history' for this new contract. The whole thing STINKS and as a result, San Diego Electric Rates are among the highest in the nation and certianly just the 'lower 48'......if not THE highest.... www.cbs8.com/article/money/amped/san-diego-has-the-highest-electricity-rates-in-the-country/509-b33c2aa1-5414-431d-a060-273059f1e0daYou Lie? I'll swear to it! I agree, Boom, but would add that ALL reasoned comment should be permitted in this thread, as long as no names are called or vulgarity...... I wish I could post a picture.......which while it COULD be Doctored, isn't and the original RAW file available.....Shows Gasoliine prices YESTERDAY when I filled out in Temecula STARTING at $6.29 for Regular unleaded......Another money sink hobby of government......trying to force us all to 'electric' cars......

Managed to book an appointment for the Omicron vaccine tomorrow. Two more weeks and I’ll get my flu shot. At my age, I don’t want to catch either.

Yep ... keep on going .... have you had the new PPSV23 pneumonia? We got the >65 flu and the PPSV23 in August right before traveling on the ship for two weeks. We timed a second bivalent Moderna early July so we'd be at full strength by August, and we'll get the new XBB.1.5 monovalent boost in early November a month before we leave for South America and Antarctica.

No, PPSV23 is for pneumonia and contains 23 serotypes covering a wider range than previous pneumonia vaccines. So if you have had one or two of the others you would still get the updated PPSV23. But thanks for reminding me ... we should get the RSV too!

Thanks marcl - I'll ask my pharmacist about PPSV23 - I think I've already had it, but she'll know for sure. I think my pharmacy called that one "Pneumovax?" I get personalized service from my corner Wal-Mart Neighborhood Pharmacy. Twice a year or so, I take them a box of donuts. They LOVE me and call me whenever there's anything that they think I need. Bribery still works!

Cops? Certainly! School Teachers? Not.. How about the 'BoomZilla Stereo Calendar'? Featuring Porn Shots of the Latest and Greatest Stereo gear? Marcl would be a good photographer, and I have some chops in this field, as well......I have a light table and LOTS of lighting for smaller items and have worked for and with artists to document and show GLASS ART, which is a Bear to get right......

In spite of their “fat pill” nature, health pros still adore donuts!
They may be too embarrassed to buy them for themselves, but when a gift dozen shows up, they get hoovered. Ask any pharmaceutical rep.

All the publicity paid off (at least, temporarily). The proposed Blue Cross insurance sale has been discarded. We'll see what they come up with next.

Rats are probably just WAITING for the Brouhaha to abate than do what they want, anyway. Too much $$$ on the table and a few Golden Parachutes to be had..... Just like what happened in CA with Net Metering 3.......
