I am not sure any Pioneers are the target. This is a slim receiver to go against the 2 slim Marantz models, the new Yamaha slim S-600 model, and a Cambridge Audio slim model. Of these, only the Cambridge has full 7.1 pre-outs but at quite a bit more cost. (The Marantz is mains pre-out only) I think the target should be Customers...And being a customer myself, I don't see the value on this product, but that is just my personal opinion. Think, value oriented apartment dwellers.

Would agree 100% value is in the eye of the customer.
What I meant is that the target market for a receiver like the 8100 may not be quite the same as the Pioneers as I don't think Pioneer currently make any slim models. The slim models are definitely a niche segment. Some folks (like me) with limited space in certain rooms tend to shop size first. The slim models were always a little feature challenged - the sell is the size. (That said Marantz have added features every year to their slim model but, having owned one, I think the Sherbourn/Emotiva model just sounds better.)

Well, maybe if the price was like around $400 I would consider it a good buy. This is a internet direct product at 700 bucks which means if it was sold on a store the price will be a little over $1000.00. So if you think this is a good value I respect that.

Emotiva is no longer the bargain it once was. This new 8100 goes up squarely against the Marantz slim series (and trumps it handily) but the prices are also Marantz-like. Not saying that's a bad thing but $700 isn't much less than I paid for my Yamaha RX-A1000 (higher MSRP but I paid $720 for it through an authorized dealer...Amazon). The one area Emo hasn't yet matched the competition much less exceeded it is the user interface and smartphone apps. I like using my iPhone while out on the back patio drinking beer around the firepit, while listening to my four outdoor speakers and dual outdoor subwoofers. Call me spoiled. - Sometimes the terseness of my reply can't be blamed on my phone.

What are the power specs into 4 ohms? I'm guessing that 4 out of 5 who buy the Fusion won't use the 2 extra channels. For $300 more I'll find room and go for the UMC-200/UPA-500 receiver.
Size:
unboxed: 22" wide x 8.5" high x 21" deep
boxed: 17" wide x 4" high x 16.5" deep
Weight: 34 lbs (25 lbs boxed)
(Maybe it's about time Emotiva hires a proof reader.)

It can't match the power (all channels driven).

I personally think that it looks like a great product. I'm going to assume 4 ohm capability because it is Emotiva. If I were buying I would check.
Let's take some 4 ohm speakers and bring that marantz to it's knees. HT Receiver with real amps at $700. Good deal. NAD , arcam and the like will cost you much more.

It can't match the power (all channels driven). Not many people would buy either one to run a dedicated home theater with. Both would be adequate for a living room system. My choice would be the Marantz. YMMV.

If Emotiva comes out with the extra features I would choose the Emotiva I know most people sort of forget about sound quality and look at features, hdmi port count and rated wattage to choose receivers. So it's somewhat understandable to compare this to those the junk receivers in the under $1000 category. I had a junk receiver..Onkyo 708, still have it but replaced it with the umc-200. So the story goes, I bought over 10k worth of speakers amp and dac, yet my system still sounded subpar for music. For movies it was ok. When I replaced it with the umc-200, the sound improved to the point where I don't feel Ilke I need to buy anything else. Now my Revel speakers sound like they did at the high end audio shops. The umc-200 sound as good or better than the Integra 80.3..look up the retail price, it's over 2k. You may think it's apples to apples but it's not. I do agree that it's a tough sell to the Cerwin Vega, boomy sub crowd because they don't know any better. But time will tell. Maybe they will actually learn to appreciate good sound...I'm hoping.

Qualifying any receiver under a grand as "junk" is pushing it IMHO. I'm one of the very satisfied Aventage owners that would not consider giving up the feature set that it offers--

You can do that on the 8100 too now I think via Bluetooth. It could still be satisfactory for the masses tho just like iTunes. It goes hand in hand and if that's someone's level of audio equipment that's fine. Emotiva focuses on sound quality first and that's where the value is. If someone doesn't value sound quality then they won't see the value in the 8100. Just a different approach to target the masses who actually care about sound quality. I do think they should have put a beefier amp in there for spec reasons. FYI, I've had Denon, Onkyo, Yamaha and even Sony receivers...it's all about balance. It's an expensive hobby because once you upgrade one components the others need upgrading etc etc.

Personally, I am not concern about sound quality when it comes to movies. When a bomb goes off and the helicopter scene is on and I am listening at 100db all I hear is boom, kata boom, bomm, boom. For two channel listening, that is a different story and I don't use my AVR for that.

I have been thinking about the reactions to this announcement and I wonder if much of it can be understood in terms of the 8100 not being something that we would purchase. Most of us are more oriented toward separates and a larger investment in our gear. The 8100 would be something I would be interested in for one of my children when they move into an apartment or for recommending to a friend on a budget. Personally I lust over a couple of XPR-1s for and a XPR-5 for the surrounds. Hey, a guy can dream!!!!!
The unit looks very similar to the Sherbourn I heard in the little theater at the last Emofest. That little integrated brought the power and sounded really nice. I was impressed. But I think that this cool piece of kit is aimed at others than you and I.

This needed wifi! There are good units for similar prices with more useful features. I bet it will be a great unit but without wi-fi (something more and more units are coming out with) I personally don't see the value (although the pre-outs are a awesome option!)
