I'm glad you posted that link. I got the MiniDSP newsletter and my first reaction was to post about it here too.
Interesting to see Dirac get implemented in more products.

A useful product, but hi-rez aficionados should note that the 2x4 MiniDSP processes at 24/48. So the extra rez you paid for will be lost. |

I believe it's just the DRC platform that will get it. I want to say it might be 32 bit? I could be reading it wrong. I think the beauty here is that another vendor is buying into Dirac as a DRC system.
I would love to place this unit between my HTPC and XDA-2 so that DRC is done before conversion to analog by the DAC.
The notes in the newsletter say 96K processing. This is far better than the 48K of current miniDSPs.
I'll hold out for Emotiva's similar box which has been hinted at!

I think the beauty here is that another vendor is buying into Dirac as a DRC system. I would love to place this unit between my HTPC and XDA-2 so that DRC is done before conversion to analog by the DAC. If you only have one source component (HTPC) and you are running windows on this HTPC, you can buy the DIRAC software today to run on your HTPC. It will be installed as a virtual soundcard. |

The MiniDSP Dirac series IS the full version for 2 channel. Guess we will have to wait to see what features Emotiva have left out on the XMC-1. Tim |

Well, as the XMC-1 had far more features than I wanted, and has so far remained vapor-ware, I ordered the MiniDSP w\Dirac. So, the Dirac Series DDRC-22D should arrive this Tuesday and my Schiit Audio Bifrost uber DAC came yesterday. My system is just two channel with 90% of the focus on music, rather than movies, so this seemed a more logical choice. Plus, both items are available now! I'll come back with a report once all is done. Tim |

It was raining and I could not just send them outside. So, I was a bit rushed and may re-run later. Only a short listening session but it sounds good. Maybe only a little better than the TacT system but I have yet to tweak the curve much. The Dirac software is very easy to use as compared with TacT.

It would work and then drop when I moved it. Figured the mini usb plug needed to be pushed in harder but it did not seat any better and I did not want to risk breaking it. Got done and looked up the mic forum on MiniDSP's site. Seems the UMIK-1 needs the plug pushed in really firmly to get it seated. I applied the extra pressure and it snapped in. So, just another reason to re-run the setup. I may try measuring in a larger sweet spot, as many suggest. It also worked with my old TacT remote after training via the software supplied. The only thing I don't like about it are the blinding white LEDs. Why to so many manufacturers do this lately? Tim |
