I'm not panicking yet, but. Over the last few days I've experienced 3 audio dropouts while playing CDs. Nothing dramatic, just about a 2 second drop in the middle of a track. Totally random, just like I paused the player. Plays fine after that. Sounds extremely good otherwise. I'm just curious if this has happened to anyone else before I call tech support.

I don't have an ERC-3, but when you say "random" do you mean the dropout is not repeatable at the same point on the track? If so, then maybe the CD needs cleaning, if not I'm at a loss.

Once only drop out and the CD was dirty, cleaned it and no drop outs since.
Cheers Gary

Never happened to me yet. In fact, a CD that sometimes gave my ERC2 problems is flawless with my new ERC3.

gday all, have over 400 hrs notched up on my erc-3 with no probs with any cd's. really is a terrific cd player, very happy with it. i do have a ingrained habit of gently wiping every cd before playback, a throwback to troublesome cd players back in the early 80's lol! rich, we all hope your dropout problem is soon sorted out. keep in touch on what happens with your erc-3 as it will help other owners if they have the same problem sometime in the future. regards, chris

I've had it only happen one time. I was listening to a cd and it dropped about 2 secs at the 3:06 mark on a song. I stopped the cd, and returned to the exact spot. It played with no drop. I took the cd out, and looked at it. It was in perfect condition. It has not happened again.

Thanks for chiming in guys. It's not happened since I wrote this post. But I did do a hard reset, turn off the main power, unplugged and restarted. So hopefully this was just a random occurrence. I'm extremely happy with my Emo gear. It is with out a doubt, the best sound I've ever had!

Hi Rich,
Just wondering if you are experiencing any more audio dropout?

I had a dropout on one CD, but it was repeatable over and over again. I took the CD out and inspected it and it was clean with no scratches, I even shined a flashlight thru from the label side and did not find any spot where the flashlight shined thru. So I made a copy of the CD on my PC and the copy played fine - since mine was repeatable there must of been some type of defect on the the CD.

Hi All
The audio drop out I get on my CD's are always in the same place. When I use these CD's in my ERC-1 everything plays fine.

I've had the dropout once more so far after my first post. Not repeatable in any of the instances, about 5 times now with different CDs. Not sure what I should do? I guess I'll call customer service on Monday. I'd hate to be without the player at all! It sounds so good!!

I’ve experienced it on defective CD-R disks with bad sectors.

No problems with any drop out with my ERC-3. Motor noise when playing discs is an issue though...

Okay, for the first time I found a spot on a CD that was dropping out and was repeatable. I just might not of realized this on others it was happening on. I looked at the CD, no obvious sign of dirt, scratches or anything. I gently wiped it down and went to the same spot and repeated the dropout.
So, normally with other players, something like this would be a skip. That would lead me to believe that the Emo has some sort of circuitry that cuts the analog signal when it comes across a glitch in the digital stream?? If so, would it seem that it might be a little too sensitive at times or is this just the way it is?? Some of you have stated that this occurred on the 3 and not on other players.

I am not buying ERC 3 anymore because of that occurrences... I hate that problem too. Instead, I will stick to ERC 1 for good...
