Wow, I didn't realize how much I had wrapped up in this ! I have my home office system right about 2k (nothing was bought at retail) and my Living room around 4k. most of it was bought over the last 2 years. No wonder I can't afford the used Corvette on my bucket list !! It is surprising sometimes huh. I keep a spreadsheet of all my buys, sells, shipping cost, gain or loss, and retail value. What's shocking is when you look at the retail value if all the gear that has come through the house lol exceeds the value of the house lol

Good point Nick. But we don't want to even think about that, do we? Replacing some of the vintage equipment that we've purchased might not be that easy or affordable!
Cheers!

I called my insurance carrier to ask about any extra things I needed to do to have my stereo covered for replacement cost. When I asked her if my current coverage would replace my stereo if it was stolen she laughed and said "yes we will rebuy your stereo ha". I then said well the retail value of the stereo and movie room are right at $50,000. She proceeded to get the underwriter on the phone to verify lol.

Pop, based upon the equipment listed in your sig, I think you'd benefit the most, by far, with new speakers. The ERMs are good speakers, but hardly the best available. And the UMC-1/XPA-5 offer surprisingly good sound quality for the money. A UMC-200 or XMC-1 would be an upgrade, but not nearly so much as better speakers. And this would allow some time for the (inevitable) XMC-1's bugs to be sorted. I'm thinking 6 months to a year after release for Emo to really get the XMC-1 "right". In the meantime, you'd be digging the great sound from your new speakers.

I haven't counted...don't want wife-Kline to see the tally and then think she should get equal spending. She doesn't realize she buys more clothes in a year than I do in stereo over a 3 year period.

OK, I couldn't resist tallying it all up...mine came in just over $16,000 total, including my system for listening all over the house (Sonos based) and my theater. It's just a bit over $11,000 for the Theater (not counting projector and screen...that would add about $2600) and about $4000 for the rest.
Don't let the wife know!
(And that doesn't include the old Denon AVR, Denon DVD player, and the surround and FR/FL speakers I have laying around that I keep meaning to hook up for a 2nd HT in the loft area.)
If I included the investment I have in music...that's probably at least another $10,000 (more like over $15,000) given the over 1000 CD's and over 300 LP's (with the LP's being quite a few high quality masterings/pressings like a lot of MFSL's Original Masters)
Yikes...that's a lot...

Ok, well I can't resist listing things and having a fairly good representation of what I've actually spent. All prices are Can and are close to exact or at least what I remember. Firt number includes taxes but retail doesn't. Only 1 item was used (the sub), the rest were new or b-stock.
Sherbourn PT-7030.....: $860 ----- Retail: $1799 Emotiva UPA-7...............: $700 ----- Retail: $699 Oppo BDP-83................: $600 ----- Retail: $600 Angstrom Mod 4's.........: $525 ----- Retail: $950 Angstrom Mod 2's.........: $325 ----- Retail: $650 Angstrom Mod 6 C........: $380 ----- Retail: $350 Angstrom Mod 10 Sub.: $250 ----- Retail: $800 Mede8er 1000X3D......: $300 ----- Retail: $230 Yaqin CD-1........................: $150 ----- Retail: $150 Emotiva RCA....................: $0 ----- Retail: $100 (got a $100 gift certificate for purchasing the UMC-1) Other HDMI & RCA........: $100 min Retail: $100 min Various Tubes...................: $100 ----- Retail: $100
Approximate totals........:$3516 ---- Retail: $6528
If you add the taxes onto the final retail prices it's close to $7500. That's some good shopping on my part if I do say so myself haha.
