Great golly for you!! So happy for ya!. Both TT come with covers and I am partial to the Rega line. Set up I as so easy hemster,,,,,,,I mean even a monkey could do it,,,,,,he,,,,he,,,,,, Plent of you tube Verison to watch. With the Rega there is a reasonable upgrade path and I do like there sound and ease of use. No bells and whistles,,,all your money goes into better parts. As far as a pre amp with phono, I've hear my 5 TT through both the XSP-1 and the Pre-1 and both sound steller. Then one of the most inportant things you can do while saving for your TT is to purchase a Spin Clean disc washer for your newly acquired vinyl, also a carbon fiber brush to clean dust off of the vinyl just before you drop the needle on it. If you're getting deep into vinyl, then you may want to get a VPI, Nitty Gritty, Okki Nokki or similar record cleaning machine, with vacuum suction.

I have owned two Regas and have been very happy with them, but the Project is also a great turntable. I concur about the performance upgrade for the Rega and the Spin Clean. Clean records sound so good, and that is the cheapest way to get them nice and clean.
I also need to go check my records when I get home as I have most of those titles myself and want to make sure my home was not burglarized while I was out. 8)
Welcome to the wonderful world of vinyl, I can't wait to hear what you get from your mom! I got mostly cha-cha records from my parents, but some of the covers were so cool that I put them up on the wall. My mother in law worked for Capitol for awhile, and she gave me 3 10 inch cases full of unplayed 10 inch records, including a mint Chet Baker record. I will sell it soon as I already have the music.

Lion ear, my comments are directed to a newcomer to the world of TT and he's not sure how deep he will dive into it, recommending a cleaning system that rivals the cost of entry of the TT world and even a lot more would not be prudent advice. I'm not sure where you're going with your suggestion, would you please clarify. Surely your not suggesting a device that costs more then what he stated for the purchase of a TT. Peace : ) Nick

I asked her if she would tell me some titles and she said she wants to keep it a surprise. I expect great things, but might not receive the albums until Christmas.

That sounds great but if your mom has about 1,000 LP's to deliver, I hope she will be renting a truck and getting some help. That's gonna be heavy!

Peace : ) Nick Just passing along some info, and my personal opinions. I like to know what's out there, so that I can then do my own research and decide what to get and when. If one gets "deep" into vinyl, then a cleaning machine would be helpful, and in my opinion, the vacuum ones do a really good job. It's unfortunate that they're so expensive. But there are deals out there. I got Nordost Red Dawn speaker cables that go for $800 new, for just a bit more than the cost of Emotiva speaker cable.

Spin clean does a good job of cleaning it's just the manual process that's a PIA. But once they are all clean you should be good to go for a while and the carbon fiber brush is also a good suggestion.

I am not exactly ready to purchase just yet. I am just in the "research" phase. There are a lot of big audio purchases coming up shortly XMC being one of them. So I am trying to keep my next bank account fallout to less than 3k total. YIKES! If I get the XMC/speakers/and turntable I will be at around 5k since the first of the year for audio purchases. I need to go to meetings.
