Beautiful video and good audio.. HOWEVER... all the advanced publicity said it would be a 7.1 DTS mix along with Dolby variations. Even the disc case says DTS 7.1, but it is nowhere to be found. Looking at the audio menus on my Oppo BDP-103 I see only the Dolby tracks. DTS 7.1 is MIA. How could that happen?

They have been skimming on rental SQ as of late, in a lame attempt to get you to purchase the movies.

Man that's the lamest marketing move I have ever heard. 99% of people wouldn't notice a single difference between a badly mastered DVD dolby 5.1 and a lossless DTS 7.1. To stick it to the 1% of people who actually have the equipment to notice is just sad imo.

I agree how can they even call it a Blu ray and charge an extra fee via netflix or redbox when the "Blu ray" experience isn't even complete. We've all seen them, the adds promoting Blu ray (as we are watching a Blu ray) that tout better picture better sound! Had quite a few rentals lately that were Blu in PQ only. Very lame indeed!

No, my Blu-ray with the missing 7.1 tracks was ordered through Amazon. I'd be interested to know if anyone got 7.1 tracks.

And a miniscule one at that, so that doesn't surprise me.

Indeed we are a statistic. That's it. That's the reason prices are just ridiculous, copyright protection mechanisms are insane, and we don't have better stuff. The place has been stagnant for decades with simply changing faceplates and names. Instead we get tiny cube speakers, formats and TV's that go obsolete every 5 years, and soundbars as the peak of our innovation. Heck digital information came into the mainstream with DVD's how many years ago - that's right TWENTY YEARS AGO - but we are JUST now getting into 4K? When DVI connections was already able to do that 15 years ago. Ugh.

Usually it's derived from the master audio - hopefully

I am so relieved! Yes, I'd put the DVD in instead of the Blu-ray.
Mea Culpa. What a dumb mistake.
Thanks for the tip.

So since when does the quality of the movie itself have anything to do with whether it is worthwhile to an audiophile? I have to assume that it is purely the audio that is the reason anyone sits through the entire remake of War of the Worlds (among other disaster movies... or should I say movie disasters).

Haven't watched the movie yet... but tell me, does Russell Crowe mumble in this movie, as he does in all his other ones?

I saw this in the theatre and enjoyed it very much - good story, acting, production ... and bass too!
