I would like to offer a few experiences I have had WRT this topic. First of all, the reason I am using Emotiva gear is because my Parasound gear was destroyed by lightning while plugged into a surge potector. I had originally planned to only use the Emotiva gear for the short term. However, it performs so well, I can not justify replacing it. Next, I had used a Monster HTPS-7000. The Monster plugs into a PS Audio outlet that is run 2 dedicated CKTs via CARDAS in wall bulk power line to 2 20 Amp CKTs. A third 15 Amp CKT is also run and powers the smart light controller and the subwoofer. The city came through and replaced all the pole insulators and transformers. What that led to was that the line voltage into the house would average 127 volts. In the afternoons though, it hovered north or 138 volts and the processor wouldn't turn on. So I ended up getting a monster AVS-2000 voltage stabilizer. The introduction of the AVS-2000 COMPLETELY changed the sound and for the better. Then I added a set of XPA-1's. The AVS-2000 has the ability to stagger the powering up of the XPA-1's. However, the triggers were set and I had issues with startup current. So I plugged them direct. About 2 months later, we had a power drop and the one XPA-1 wasn't working. It ended up being a blown fuse. I have replaced all the fuses with those Hi-Fi Tuning fuses and was a little annoyed with the fact that I had to fork out more money. I had purchased a Shunyata Hydra but had been lazy installing it. This was an excuse. I used the Hydra with a 15 to 20 Amp EIC. The XPA-1's sounded all thin. I tried all kinds of stuff but they sounded like crap. I sent the mains power cord back to the OEM to have a 20 Amp WATTGATE EIC installed and potted. That did the trick. The sound has greatly improved with the Shunyata and the AVS-2000. I have not had an issue with damaged gear since. So- dedicated CKTs to a dedicated outlet. The outlet top goes to a Shunyata Hydra. The bottom goes to the AVS-2000. The 2000 powers the Processor and the HTPS-7000. The 7000 powers the XPA-5, Oppo 105D, playstation 3, XPA-200, TV, Cable Box, Apple TV and a mini disc player. The Shunyata Hydra powers the 2 XPA-1's. The floor noise is VERY low. You can power up and put your ear right at the speaker and there is nothing. The AVS-2000 & Hydra had very big impacts on the sound quality in a positive way.
