Hello,
I purchased the Fusion 8100 last night and am awaiting arrival. I thought the purchase did not go through as I got an error, so I was having second thoughts.
My main concern was I almost purchased an Onyko TX-NR636 because of the HDMI 2.0 with ATMOS.
I own B&W speakers in a 5.1 config, and my main concern is sound quality for music and movies.
Did I make a good choice?
Thanks

Hi frocco, welcome to the world of Emotiva. It's a great place to be. We're always happy to see new faces. You will get a lot of support here and a lot of.great advice. He're not ALL crazy,,,,he,,,,he,,,,,
Your question, honestly, I don't know. I've never heard this unit but the quality of Emo gear and support has been great.ive never had a problem with anything I've purchased. The great news is that you have 30 days to play with the 8100 to find out weather or not it is for you,,,,who does that? Not Onkko I believe. I'm not a brasher but hearing is believing,,,,,almost. Stay around an we' ll show you that one,,,,,he,,,,,he,,,,,,
Anyway, so happy to have you on board.

Hey thanks for the warm welcome.
I saw on another thread someone had the VSX-80 and returned it in favor of the 8100, so I am excited and hope I like the sound quality.

Is it a mistake buying into a HDMI 1.4 system currently like the 8100?

I am the person that bought the Fusion 8100 and returned the Pioneer Elite VSX-80. The Fusion sounds better than any AVR I auditioned for both Music and Movies with a price of $1200 or less. I listened to a lot all the mass market brands the Pioneer, Denon and Marantz. The NAD's sounded good but cost more than the Emotiva and I still like the sound of the Fusion better. Emotiva has dropped the price of the Fusion to $499 which makes it almost a no brainer to buy. It has more inputs and preamp outs than any AVR costing $800. Do not worry that the Fusion was "only" 65 watts a channel. Other manufactures use fuzzy testing methods to get their power ratings. The Fusion 8100 drives all channels to 65 watts in 7.1 mode. In two channel mode it will run 110 watts per channel. The Pioneer VSX-80 which is rated at 90 watts a channel could not push out the same volume with out major straining on the amp part. The Fusion was so much cleaner it was not funny.
On the question of HDMI 2.0 I was worried that the Fusion would become outdated. I looked into 4K T.V. and decided that I would not upgrade for many years. Many things have to happen for 4k to work as it should. Cable and Satellite providers need to expand their bandwidth to carry the signal. Prices need to fall, which they will in the next few years for a 4K set. I decided that I wanted to have the best quality sound now, than the possibility of a better picture quality way down the road. You might think differently, but you will need to put out the bucks to get a 2.0 HDMI AVR receiver that sounds any where close to the Fusion 8100.
Also don't forget you have a 30 day return policy with Emotiva, if you don't like the sound or the remote or the user interface you can return it. There is virtually no risk in buying from them. They are not like any other audio company in existence. I was at Emotiva On The Road in Los Angles and had a great time. I know of no other company that for free admission will let you listen to demos, talk to the president of the company, get a free lunch and snacks and hold raffles for expensive stereo gear. I personally won a set of $300 dollar speakers. Go ahead and try them, you have nothing to lose, and you will have a chance to find out that you don't have to spend a fortune to get great sound.

I can add that I'm using the UPA-700 to drive my B&Ws, it's essentially the same amp as the 8100 and works very well. I think kauai82 covered my thoughts on HDMI 2.0, and the sound quality you will appreciate now. Damn good price!

I couldn't pass up that deal for the 8100 as well. Looking forward to seeing the 8100 owners keep the feedback coming via the forum and I will do the same.

Thanks for sharing your experiences, my tracking # says I will have the 8100 on 9/9/14. Sound quality is the most important feature to me, and I almost fell for the ATMOS feature of the Onyko 636. I do not see getting into 4k anytime soon also. Too expensive and as was stated, limited content. I also tried the VSX-80 and will be returning it. Movies was ok, but did not like it for music.
I also like the fantastic warrently offered.
Can't wait to hook it up. Great price, I would of passed it up at 700.00
I also joined the e-club as the 10% basicly paid for it.

One question for those that own the 8100, do you really think it sounds better than a Yamaha, Onyko, ect? I know this is subjective, but wanted to hear opinions.

I bought an 8100 and sold my Marantz slimline. I quite enjoy the SQ. You will find the HDMI to be a little finicky as compared to many mass market receivers but if you avoid having your equipment set to "auto" usually all is well. One nice part about about 8100 that the particular Onkyo you mentioned does not have is pre-outs if you decide to add either outboard amps or powered speakers.

You will find that the Fusion takes a second or two longer to do the handshake to get connected to the source than the pioneer vsx-80 or some Denon models. This is particularly true the first time you hook it up in your system. After that it settles down and I don't notice the slight delay time. Some people have reported problems with very long HDMI cable runs of 15 feet or more. Just remember you have a 30 day trial period. If the handshake slight delay bothers you send it back. Now if you want to do some research on Onkyo problems with their HDMI boards burning up go over to the AVS board and see the hundred of posts from dissatisfied customers. No AVR is perfect, all have there issues of some kind.
My issue with the Fusion was that the automatic balancing sound system made movies sound great , but stereo sound awful. You can do a search on my solution in a post I left about a two months ago. Hang in there you only have on more day to wait and your Fusion will be delivered.

Anyone know a good way to use another device for entry (preferably with a keyboard) vs the 8100 remote. I have tried to change the names of my inputs about 20 times and keep getting navigated to other screens, powering the unit off etc. The little cursor rings is NOT my friend and sometime seems to trigger unrelated actions.

Problems with my order. I made the mistake of emailing customer service and telling them I was having second thoughts about my order and if I could cancel because I did not hear back from questions I asked from sales.
The next thig I new my order was cancelled. I called them and said I did not want my order cancelled, but was asking if I still had that option. They said they would contact UPS and reverse the return shipment. Well my receiver is in my home town and UPS tracking says it is returning to sender. I called customer service yesterday and was told that sales would get right on it and fix this. I sent several emails and they are not answering them.
I know I caused this, but I have lost respect for this company in how they handled this matter. They seem very disinterested in keeping me as a customer and there lack of response makes me feel that I should just forget this product and move on.

If this is the worse thing in your life right now,,,,,,thank however you pray to. Good luck and let us know what happens, I'm rooting that you get your gear today.

Just got an email from them, there is a problem just reversing shipment and they asked if I wanted them to just send out another receiver. I responded and asked if I would still get it this week and am waiting on there reply.
I am not upset with them, but just feel like I am not a value customer because of there lack of contact. I guess I spoke too soon as there are trying to resolve this.

Frocco I have found that a call to customer service often results in a faster response or at least some insight on whether they are backed up on email responses. They are just back from an On the Road event and may be a bit backed up. It sounds like Emotiva was trying do the right thing initially. As I see it, you are working with a company that unlike most are offering a 30 day return no questions asked and after that a 5 year warranty. Also unlike many you can email (how long have you waited for a response?) or talk with a real person at the company without going through heck trying to get to someone or figure out what phone button option to press. I would be interested if you have engaged any other audio companies which offered you the level of response you are desiring with the products options to your avail with the quality to value provided by Emotiva. I am certainly not in the middle of what you have been going through, but from what you describe I was not totally clear what transpired in what time frame to cause such a loss of respect for Emotiva.

FX said I couldn't pick up because of Apples original request for home deliver only. Very frustrating , I know!,! It all worked out in the end and all was quickly forgotten. Apple and FedEx took care of me in a quick and professional manner. im rooting for ya for delivery this week.
