I've just ordered the XPR-2. And truly, I made this decision (marginal) based largely on aesthetics, not "watts", lol. I still believe that the two XPA-2's offer the best value, all things considered. However, 600wpc as a base/max...and it "matches" (lol) XPR-5 in looks? Yeah, I went for it. Again, frugality? My initial assertion is probably, the "best buy".

Firstly, I apologize to the OP, as I didn't intend to hi-jack your thread in any way. In fact, I'm looking forward to you posting some updated info!
This board is vast, and I'm not great at navigating....so, I'll ask; can anyone here either, steer me toward a forum that talks about racks for gear, and/or, does anyone here have some recommendations for the following needs?:
Racks than can support XPR amps. I need, at least, a five shelf rack that is capable of supporting the weight of 2 XPR series amps, along with various (at least 4 pieces) processors, BRP, etc... I've looked at over 25 different "conventional" models on-line today, but they all seem to fall short, for one reason or another (adjustable shelf height, shelf weight capacity, etc...). I was comfy, up until I just ordered the XPR-2. I've run out of horizontal and vertical space with what I currently have.

In over 40 years of this hobby (obsession) I have never found a rack that does everything that I want. So I have always made my own, the DIY section of this forum is a useful resource. emotivalounge.proboards.com/board/8/diy If you aren't very good at DIY then custom made is probably the best answer. Roughly draw up what you want and then find a local wood working, cabinet making, shop that can make it to you requirements. Cheers Gary

I made speakers in the late 80's/early 90's (for friends and family), and I made 80% of the furniture in my home, including, complete bedroom suite, coffee table & end tables, China buffet & hutch, cherry kitchen cabinets...and on and on.... Unfortunately, I am "separated" for 3yrs, out of a 27yr marriage.. IOW, my "complete" shop gear (radial arm, table saw, routers [3], sanders, etc...) is/are not available to me, as I live 120 miles away. The funny part is, that I had already designed a "monster" A/V piece of furniture....to house 4 dbx BX2 amps, a single dbx BX3 amp, all my processing gear, etc... I even bought (still have) 6 of the quietest fans that you can purchase (along with a front-mount temp control) to make the cabinet user friendly. I AM the DIY'r from hell, but .....not these days. Unfortunately, I am alone in an apartment, and cannot make what I want, at this point. I am willing to pay upwards of $600-$700 for a quality, flexible, roller, cabinet. My own design would have cost me at least, $200 in materials, but also, 20hrs in labor.

We have "rent a space" facilities where my friends store their toys, especially the retired ones who now live in apartments. One has a full machine shop, lathe, mill, linisher, MIG, TIG, pedestal drill, press, all the good stuff. He pops in there whenever he needs to do some stuff. After all, a man needs his toys Or maybe just draw up what you want, source the materials and take them to a local workshop who can do the finishing. Not quite 100% DIY, but plenty of self satisfaction in that. Cheers Gary

Cheers Gary Being a DIYer from hell, I would have little satisfaction letting someone else build my own design (unless, built for mass production, lol). I spent a couple of hrs on-line over the last few days, searching for a rack that would serve my needs. I just ordered one that is not exactly, what I want, but one that I believe I can make work: www.cymax.com/VTI-RGR-406-6-Shelf-Audio-Rack.htm. And I got black w/black tinted glass. like you stated earlier, it's hard to find one that "fits" exactly, and that's the darned truth. A 4 shelf model won't cut it. A 5 shelf unit might have been ideal,.... but I had to go to this 6 shelf model to accommodate my needs. It's scary though, because I'll have to place on XPR amp on the bottom...and one on the top. This thing is 52" tall, meaning I'll have 100lbs of amp, towering at my own height. It should be sturdy, but that's a lot of weight to be that high up. And yes, the shelves will only support XPRs on the top...and bottom shelves. The other shelves can only support 60lbs, let alone the height restrictions. Since I will buy the XMC-1, I will use up all the shelving, which will include all my processing gear. The irony is, that I made such an A/V rack...almost 20yrs ago (it was over 6' tall). I ended up removing some shelves and made it a "stuffed animal" cabinet for my daughter. Years later, I made it a cabinet to hold some shop equipment in my garage/workshop :-).
