My Onkyo TX-NR 809 died on me. As usual the famous HDMI board issue ( never ever would buy an Onkyo, neither should any body). I am considering the fusion 8100 as replacement. Any input is appreciated. The price for e-club members is tempting. I am not looking for bells and whistles, just a solid, reliable A/V receiver that can drive my Polk rtia7's, Center Csia4 and in-ceiling Emotiva speakers in a 7.2 configuration. The room IS medium size 14 # 14. I am using a projector, Optoma hd1x41.
Ty for the input.

I love mine and I think there's nothing even remotely comparable at this price and footprint. In my experience Onkyos are big and very hot so the rest of your shelf will thank you.
Review (and some initial woes) in the thread just before yours. I don't think you'll find the power lacking with those speakers and powered subwoofers. In the unlikely event, you can use the extra space for an extra amp.

If you want to, you can probably repair the HDMI board issue on the Onkyo. I'm no handyman or tech person, but I repaired my TX-SR606 myself with the help of YouTube for < $40.

I tried the one on ebay and it was fixed, lasted 30 days. I gave up, I am licking my wounds and moving to something reliable with a company that respects it's reputation. btw this is the 2nd onkyo av receiver that dies on me like this. I am planning on selling it and never will buy onkyo in my life.

I love my Fusion 8100 and with the sale price you are getting a umc 200 should you need more power later and decide to bypass what's in the 8100.

That's what I was thinking pdaddy, however there is so many different opinions by multiple reviewers for this receiver. I guess the best way is to try it for myself, so I went ahead and stole one at the e-club current price. I really do not believe that my onkyo 809 which is rated at 135 wpc by onkyo was delivering more then 65 wpc all channel driven, anyway.

Onkyo is also honoring warranties for receivers until.... I can't remember the date. There's a thread on A_S that's dedicated to this topic. You may be able to get that receiver fixed, then sell it.

That 65 watts all channels are going to be plenty. Just got my Fusion 8100 tonight, not installed yet and never heard it but I have a usp-1 and upa-2 and it is all in the family. I already know my review of the Fusion 8100 is going to be "yup, just what I thought". I am a die hard penny pincher but have more money than Davy Crockett and would not have bought anything else but Emotiva gear after the years of listening to my usp-1 and upa-2 open and clean sound. It is a very smart buy is all I can say.

I own xpa-2, upa-2, upa-200, xpa-200, upa-1, usp-1, xda-1, xd-2, Emotiva speakers: floor standing ( which I love) and incelilngs 6.2 and 8.2, mini x-100's # 3, and erc-1, and owned few sherbourn pieces as well. I just have not heard the a/v receiver line from Emotiva yet. I have tried the SR-120 from sherbourn and had to return it as it died on me within 3 days. I own the sherbourn pt 7020a pre amp and it is excellent. I would appreciate if you can detail your experience with the fusion 8100 once you've had the chance to listen to it.

pallpoul, Just a note ,between 2009 to 2012 Onkyo has found a "Chip" on the HDMI board that has been the cause of a lot of issues. They are giving people who have units till Dec of 2018..here is the link..check it out..http://www.onkyousa.com/Support/service_info.php I just visited the website, ty for the info. I still going to keep the Fusion-8100 when it comes in as I would never trust Onkyo's product ever again. I have 3 a/v receiver 808. 809 AND 818 with the same problem. I learned after 3 receivers and 1800 down the drain,..

I'm not sure if you think its worth it or not but read this thread before you chuck it in the trash. You might get something out of it if you have it fixed.

Buy a Yamaha AVR. Dependable, simple to operate, great sounding DACs. Excellent for use as a pre-pro.
On my third one.

I wish I saw this post before I gave away 2 of the affected units almost for free on eBay. I needed the space and I got upset each time I saw them sitting unused. I visited the web site and my serial number was accepted. I will time the turn around for this unit, and will comment on it how it works after it comes back from Onkyo.

I've built two systems with the 8100 and both have worked very well, I think you'll like it.

My first experience with Onkyo wasn't too good. I bought a refurbished SC885 that were going for cheap on their 'Shop Onkyo' website. Within the first 30 days it started displaying pretty colors instead of tv or movies. I send it back on their dime - got it back and promptly sold it. I bought a new Integra DHC 40.1 during that period - good thing it had a 3 year warranty - the HDMI board was starting to get flaky and the AM/FM tuner went south just inside the three year window. I sent it in for repairs and bought an NR-818 in the meantime (I'm a slow learner - right?) then got nervous about it and sold it. Since then I've owned 2 Yamaha AVRs - a UMC-1 that just didn't 'do it' for me - then a UMC-200 which I like but didn't have the flexibility I like. I did buy a second UMC-200 which I sold on ebay. I bought it for the 25% off for life 'bonus' points! So now I have a PT-7030 that seems is 'just right' - for now anyway. The PT-7030 does something many prepros can't - it lets you assign more than one audio or video input to 2 or more outputs. Meaning I can hear optical one on input 1 or 8 etc - or all 8 if I choose.
Onkyo makes some great looking AVRs and AVPs - on paper they have all the bells and whistles covered. Its too bad it took them 5-6 years to recognize such poor performance. The evidence was there in the first year and they simply thought they could get away with it. Maybe 20-30 years ago you could but in the internet age you can no longer get away with lousy machines.

I have been a BIG fan of Marantz for the last 15yrs, still have a receiver from 15yrs ago (garage system) that kicks butt on many of the newbies, sans modern features. I also use one of their newer "slim line" units (1603) in the bedroom. Not much power, but I use the two channel preamp and have it connected to two extra channels on one of my XPA-5's in the theatre area. This is a great unit at an incredible price. My brother bought one and I helped "install" it, pretty easy, very user friendly. He has been VERY happy with it over the last year! Check it out for anyone looking for a great performer at a steal-of-a-price. They also communicate with the computer very easily, if that is your thing. www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/marsr5008/marantz-sr5008-7.2-network-home-theater-receiver-with-airplay/1.html#!more

Well i've had my Onkyo 505 for 7 years and not one single issue ever, maybe because it's pre-2009?
Anyways, i want to make a change mainly because it's still HDMI 1.3 and a few other older features so it's time to update, this Fusion 8100 is high on my list. I've read mixed bag reviews about the fusion or people in other forums say that Emotiva has always made good amps but stay away from their pre/pro's…either way, i'm just trying to figure out if i want or will use all the 'bells and whistles' on the mainstream units.
Also, can anyone comment on the Fusion's 'Advanced Room Correction' system and how it compares to Audssey, YPAO etc, is the Fusion's any good?
To the original OP, would love to hear your honest opinions about the Fusion.

Bought one of those SC885 prepros from Club Onkyo too. Great price, but them having so many refurbs should have been an avoid sign. Mine worked OK, but I hated the noisy/quirky input switching, so after about a year, I sold it for about what I paid for it.
