These are great little amps. I would buy this over the Mini X amp - its much more flexible having a remote and has two channel inputs. This is a rebadged Sherbourn PA-2.

Are the outputs fixed or variable?

They are fixed.

That seems odd. So if I want to output to a sub, it will be a full output and not in synch with the volume output of the amp. Hmmmmmm.

Looks like it would be nice for powering desktop computer speakers

Funny... In the specs, it states "Convection cooled; no fans." But there is a fan on the pictures. Which one is wrong? That picture of the insides with the fan looks exactly like the one for the Mini X. I wonder if they just used the wrong photo.

You install the amp underneath your chair and press the blue button when you want to make the music get a rise out of you. Pictured: flex amp in hovercraft mode.

I think the output is more for chaining multiple amps but it would have been way more useful as a way to hook up a sub. I could be wrong about this but it seems the flex is a rebadged Sherbourn P2-50 and that is how the output worked on it. Really a great sounding little amp!

I would like to do a little shootout between this and the Rega Brio R. The Rega is very highly regarded but my guess would be the Emotiva would be very competitive and it keeps about $700 in your pocket. This little amp a mini DSP and a Dc-1 would be a real nice compact system.

Checked out the Fusion Flex Amplifier. More of a good thing with a remote too. I envision a small system with Subwoofer. Small yes, but a big sound. You know, big Emotiva sound.

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum. Merry Christmas !
I'm considering buying a mini x or a fusion flex. I know for sure that the mini x is a sure bet that on a high quality sound. But then I saw the fusion flex and that threw a spanner in my decision making. Has anyone had any experience with this new amp ? Does it sound/perform the same as the mini x ? Cheers

I always liked the PA 2-50. Picked up 2 of them during the close out sale, and used them to biamp front bookshelves. Now using one to power rear bookshelves. They are truly Flex.
I wonder whats the upgrade from PA 2-50 to Fusion Flex, apart from cosmetic and new remote and price.

The PA 2-50 did indeed have remote control functionality, and in my opinion, was one thing that made the product so desirable compared to competitors in the same class. With the new Flex, there are a few tweaks such as swapping the Phoenix-style speaker connectors for five-way binding posts, using Emotiva-spec capacitors inside, and of course, a new facelift. I ordered a Fusion Flex last night for a new project, but I'll hook up my Zone 3 speakers first to play around with the amp. I suspect it'll perform similarly to the mini-X.
I'm happy to see some of the old Sherbourn stuff getting a new lease on life. The Fusion Flex, Fusion 8100, and the SA-250 all made an appearance last year as new Emotiva/Emotiva Pro branded products.

The PA2-50 is a great little amp. I would expect the Fusion Flex to be great also. Well worth it for people who just want say an office system with a small pair of speakers. Can't recommend this enough for anyone who is looking at it, but if integrating a sub is part of what you want to do, please look very closely at the features to see how you would do this.

Agreed. Perhaps Emotiva will release a true integrated system in the future or revisit the "Exec" system discussed in the past with a customizable subwoofer output.

I am disappointed that it does not have a headphone out. Agree. This component would be a perfect place for a headphone out. Instead they still have it in the XDA-2 Gen 2 where for me it's totally unnecessary. DC-1 okay, XDA-2, no.

This looks exactly like the PA2-50 from Sherborn, but with real binding posts (different remote). I'd recommend this to anyone wanting a small desktop amp. In fact, with the modest price increase over the Mini-X, I don't know why you would buy a Mini-X. I guess I just don't understand the redundancy of this product. I always liked the PA2-50 because it had 2 inputs, where the Mini-X only has 1. But I liked the binding posts, looks, and rotary volume control of the Mini-X. I never bought either because neither was quite right IMO. So now we are back to having the 2 again, with some subtle improvements. But are these 2 products not totally redundant? Why have the confusion? Why not just have 1 small amp like this, and mix the best of both of them? Or perhaps if they were different in over all shapes, like one was wider than long vs longer than wide, then it would make sense? But this is really pointless in my book. Of course I'm sure I'll catch hell on this forum for not jumping on the "Rah Rah Shish Boom Bah Hail Emotiva Bandwagon". But really, I'd rather just see the classier looking Mini-X (with rotary volume and 5 way binding posts) bumped up to having 2 inputs (with the auto manual feature) and adding a headphone output jack. That would make much more sense to me.

All I can think of is they are still working on something they think will be better to be used for that purpose. Let's hope.

I tend to agree Bonzo. In my case I'm thinking about a MiniX for Zone 3 (garage), it only needs the one input from the UMC-200. But for the few extra $'s a FlexAmp maybe should be on the list in case I want to add the audio output from the TV already in the garage. I expect that I'll probably end up with a pair of Airmotives as my son currently has my "garage" speakers at his unit. So between the Airmotives and the FlexAmp I suspect the MiniX is going to get squeezed out.
Happy New Year Gary

Actually I really like the remote of the flex and may inquire if I could use it with the PA2-50. I dislike the tiny remote that came with it (and I can't find it). A small headphone out on the front would also have been awesome.
