Hello guys hopefully this is a simple fix, and can be solve with a few click of the keys! First of all I can't understand what went wrong as to what made the system stop working properly. I have not made any major changes on the edit tabs, or what ever its call, all I've been doing is ripping for the last few weeks, which I believe the whole ripping process come with its own quirks. Such as why do the tray open when a cd finish and some times it doesn't? for example, they are other silly things that I would think a system such as this would handle better, it might be minuet but it's frustrating when ripping hundreds of CD's and so often I noticed the ripping has stop a while ago. Anyway on to the main issue here, when I attempt to play a file a message pops up saying it can not play it, and it can find the file! The thing is previously I assumed I lost music from an external hard drive meaning "not that I lost the file on the hard drive but the cover art, the tags, etc. in Jriver software. I was OK with that as they where still in my hard drive, and the files where ripped with little care and attention to the format. Now some how all those tags, cover art, and such has return (I have not connected the HHD back to my HTPC),I do not want in the system as stated above I have little love for them, and they are. Not sure how that happen as I have not made any changes, and now my new rips are a mess and mixed with the old music files from my external hard drive! Sounds like I should check the edit folder and see why or rather where these are the files located me think?!?! Here is where I get frustrated how this happen when all I’ve done is ripped cd, I have not change a thing, which leaves me little faith in computer/hard drive music play back! Perhaps I'm not using the correct terminologies here, or my lack of expression is losing exact as to what's going on here but I'm truly thinking of scrapping this whole thing up, the only thing making me what to deal is the number of CD I own, as I would like to be rid of them. Between this Software, and ITunes which I almost delete the entire last night but that's another story has me thinking I should freshening up some PC classes, or something because it can become difficult and turn ugly without rhyme or reason fast! If anyone can help, or guide me to what's going on that would be great. I think I'll post this on another forum but not Jriver, that place things get lost. Pardon the rant here. Thanks Dan

Not sure what I was trying to say translated correctly, I was pretty frustrate and it was early in the morning for me.
So anyone has any thing for me, or should I wait until I'm infront of my system later today?
Thanks

This is what I'm getting most of the cover art come from an external Hard drive that were delete a while ago, all of a sudden they reappear without the hard drive ever being connected! Neither new rips or old can play. Thanks Dan

No, should I do that? I see I have Itunes in there as well..I really would like this to work as I'm tire of how I tunes treats me and the amount of files I've lost purchased through them...
Very frustrating if you ask me, on paper it sounds all good and fun but it seems like it's not the case when it comes to all this fussing around.
Thank you
Dan

You sure it is looking to the right library? Mark You mean there's more than one library??? I was looking at the most recent rips and I see my current rips intact, some with doubled titles. It seems to play alright from there. What I don't want is the old tags/cover art that I delete from the external hard drive that happen to pop up! Thanks Dan

You can define where it looks for the library, so you can have more than one place defined. Also, if old cover art you have deleted is popping back up, I can't recall for sure, but I think it may automatically look for that data to associate with the music and pull it in. Not sure if you can turn that off or not but it doesn't really hurt anything to have it there. Why not just leave it there?

I see...if I get a chance this week I will look around and see if there is a way to change that. Going to be ripping a bunch of CD's so I will be in the software anyway.

I know Jriver sounds great, but I'm not too sure it's for me as I'm too dense to grasp it at the moment, I'm looking at other alternative players
I'm looking at Foobar, mediamonkey, and musicbee, and a few others..I'm looking to listen to music not go crazy for hours/day figuring out where's my music and why it's not playing..
Thank you
Dan

I use both J River and MediaMonkey. Took me a while to figure out J River in the beginning, so don't feel bad.
Try the free download of MediaMonkey - that's the only version of MM version I use. It is much simpler to use than J River in my opinion.
I found Foobar to be a pain in the a-- but lots of people like it.

Thanks I'll check out MM and see if I fancy it, if it's simple and sounds great then I'm there. I'm currently not using a SSP just my TV via HDMI from HTPC, so JRMC is decoding in 5.1! How can I downmix to two channels? Thanks Dan

Hi buddy, been there,,,,,done that!!!!
JRivers has pleased a file on your hard drive of the songs and titles etc. not the music it's self. Kind of a system as to what you have and where to go get it.
You need to look and see where it placed these files and delete them! First make sure the external hard drive is disconnected, then you can't delet the music.
Delete all files associated with JRivers that titles music or file system. It takes some digging but can be found, this is how I did it. Even if you delete JRivers those dang files that are associated with your music will still be there,,,,,,so you have to find them, do a media search each time you think you found and deleted them .
Hope this helps, yes it's a paint in the ARSSS but once you figure it out and do all of your install you may get it right.
I ended up with multiple files pointing to the same song, so I'm still a mess as well, I haven't figured out or had time to spend on there forum!,! That's where the answers must lie!!
Edit: good luck and God help us!!!!!

Why not just clear the library and re-import the desired folders?

Hi djoel - The first rule of music servers is "nothing is easy." If you go the iTunes route, you either do it completely their way (letting iTunes manage everything) or you get into the ditch very quickly. JRiver allows somewhat more flexibility, but at the price of a steeper learning curve. The ultimate problem with BOTH JRiver and iTunes is that they keep all the metadata in their own separate databases. If their database becomes corrupt (and in my experience, it does, and routinely), then the only way to sort things out is to delete the music library, then point the software to the location and let it rebuild its database. My experience is that although JRiver doesn't lose much music, it almost always loses some cover art and then downloads something from the internet that is NOT what should be there. Ultimately, I've decided that I don't really care about the cover art provided that the program doesn't erase or lose music. It can be very frustrating if you're trying to manage directories manually (I do). If you use the JRiver ripping software, sometimes it will combine two albums with the same title that have nothing to do with each other. "Greatest Hits" is a prime example. Then I have to manually separate the two albums and move them into separate directories with different names. Then I have to let the program reindex all my music (takes about an hour). The best way to deal with all this is to accept the fact that even the best music software drops stuff routinely. Once you expect mediocre performance, you'll not be so frustrated with it when it happens (and it will). Sometimes the only option is an intermission where you go do something else until the irritation passes. Good luck - and if you find anything that works well for you, please share it! PS - Unlike Nick, I do NOT recommend deleting ANYTHING. It takes too much time to rip it for you to do it again. Even if you start from scratch and re-rip, there's no guarantee that you won't have exactly the same problems again. Merry Christmas - Boom

Why not just clear the library and re-import the desired folders? Yup that's what I did Chuck, it seem to work pretty well. To clarified what I did, I did not delete the files I just uninstalled them and re-import them back. Thanks Dan
