I use all CDs or CDs to AIFF or standard am/fm tuner now to listen to music and talk shows. I also have a blu-Ray player from panisonic that is a few years old that Is used to play CDs.Also podcast. my main concern I think should be music due to the quality that can possibly be achieved. i have a about 5 yr old Mac pro desk top I could use also. i heard there maybe a company that provides lossless streaming or downloads. SACD I guess is kind of a choice. So $ and quality wise, what wisdom/experience do you fellers have? thank you!

I use a Pure i-20 ipod dock with the tune in app for my radio stations. No static trying to reach stations out of your area and clean crisp sound. I also stream Pandora through the same dock for my non CD listening. $100 buys you a dock that charges your ipad/ipod/iphone and offers digital output via toslink or coax to hook up directly to your home theater. Coupled with my XDA-2 it offers a great pathway to music and more. I think Cambridge also offers a similar device but at a higher price.

To me the best sound is thru HD Tracks downloaded to a computer usually a HD 96/24 FLAC file played by through your DAC of choice. I am afraid CD players and turntables may go the way of the cassette

Tidal streamed to apple ipad, iphone or mac, then wireless to Airport Express.
All bit perfect, 25 million tunes, $20 per month.
All at CD resolution, haven't touched a CD in years, no need to.
Done.

I am afraid CD players and turntables may go the way of the cassette So with the XMC-1 since it has a DAC would that work? XSP-1 would need a DAC? would not the computer like a Mac Pro or iMac already have that taken care of and then you just connected with whatever wiring to your xsp-1 or xmc-1?

The "Dac in your Mac" will not be as good, also it lives in an electrically noisy environment.

The DAC or sound card in your MAC is not really high end sound. An external DAC will bring your computer sound to life. Your preamp will just replay what is feed in to it. The computer direct without an external DAC is lower sound quality

I use a Mac Mini Connected by USB to the XDA-2 DAC which is connected with XLR cables to my PT-7030 Pre/Pro which is connected to my Stealth 6 speakers with XLR cables as well.
I control the music on my Mac Mini with an ipad using the Remote app to control the iTunes on my Mac
Both the XDA-2 and Stealth DAC are also preamps so unless you have a need for analog inputs than the XSP-1 would be needed.
What do you use for speakers and amps, if you are strictly 2 channel than the XSP-1 preamp and either the XDA-2 or Stealth DAC from Emotiva would be great, there other DAC's out there as well, the Schitt Modi DAc is great for $100, comes in either USB or Toslink

I use a MacMini to Behringer UCA202 DAC ($25) then to Airmotive 4's for my home office. For portability an iPhone analogue out to Airmotive's works OK, but is noticeably improved by using the iPhone lightning digital output to the UCA202. When Emotiva brings out the new simple DAC then I'll look at upgrading the UCA202.
Cheers Gary

Good catch mate, I must have been still asleep when I posted that I best go back and amend it, so it doesn't confuse anyone in the future. What I do is use a lightning to USB cable + gender bender for digital input into the UCA202. Cheers Gary

Although I still have my Sony 777 SACD,CD,DVD player fully loaded with 400 cd's and my Oppo I find I stream most of my music. I have a CHORDETTE that I am able to stream all of my music from my computer and iPad. While I have heard many good things about TIDAL I am cheap and I resent spending $240.00 a year for music when there are so many venues to access FREE MUSIC from the Internet. 25 million tunes you can't listen to in a lifetime.

But not at CD resolution, which after all is higher fidelity.
