Honestly guys, the ERC-1 is in production already and they stated it won't have balanced outputs. I'd be rather surprised if we saw balanced outputs on it. You also forgot that the XMC-1 will have multi-zone video and audio where as the UMC-1 does not. You also say only like that stuff isn't substantial which it definitely is in my book

I think the XMC-1 sounds like a fabulous piece of gear. I also think the UMC-1 sounds like a fabulous piece of gear, and for their target price points both should be industry leaders. But since I don't need multiple video outputs or multiple audio zones, since balanced connections are pointless in my setup, and since my use is for HT and I have only two HDMI source components, the UMC-1 remains the perfect upgrade for me.

Wow, I knew the XMC-1 would be kick-ass, but this is well beyond my expectations. ;D

So, no mention of DSD decoding via HDMI... I was wondering the same thing...

A DAC, my DAC has balanced outputs and is what I'll use on it. The DAC connects to the PC and my CDP. Like I said maybe someday the ERC-1 will have balanced outputs but I think it's a rather big stretch to assume the one coming out in a month or so will.

Twisted Pear Audio dual mono Opus, it's a semi DIY sort of thing. I love it though has an offboard ASRC reclock and uses dual Wolfson WM8741 DAC's. I may be replacing it soon though

I was looking over the output list, are there multiple SUB outs that are RCA, for those of us running more than 1 SUB? Also, I am wondering if this is going to be the DMC-1 replacement given the impressive list of features, or is there high end unit coming to replace it?

Its not going to be the DMC-1 replacement, the replacement was rumored awhile back. However I think this will a Loonnggggg long wait on this. So I guess you can consider it a "temporary" replacement maybe. Im assuming there will be at least 2 sub outs, the MMC-1 had three so, I think two are at least in order.

I don't know what you consider to be a Loonnggggg wait, but as Lonnie stated majority of the XMC-1 is based off the UMC-1 platform there for implementing everything needed to go to the XMC-1 shouldn't take to terribly long. I'd say after work starts we'll probably see the XMC-1 within 6 months.

Sorry Dougie if I wasnt clear, I didnt mean the XMC-1 should be a loonng wait, in fact it doesnt seem like it be too long after the UMC-1 launch. I meant the rumored DMC-1 replacement, who knows the eta on that, ....if at all I guess.

Oh, well it was discussed before that there is a possibility that there won't be a DMC-1 replacement. The UMC-1 set the bar so high and then the XMC-1 is just going to be so amazing it might be hard to top the XMC-1 without getting crazy expensive.

Alright can I ask a question, what is DSD through HDMI. Matthew, I believe DSD stands for Direct Stream Digital. As I understand, it is a decoding procedure for SACD's over HDMI. So if you don't have an SACD player, this feature probably isn't very important to you. Though someone correct me if I'm wrong, since I don't have any SACD's or a player for that matter.

Someone help me out here....... Lonnie mentioned in the preliminary specs that the XMC-1 will have balanced 7.1 outputs. Is it safe to assume that the balanced outputs are in addition to it also having Zone 1, 7.1 RCA outputs so that the XMC-1 will be able to be used with the UPA series of amplifiers? I would expect that both would be included. Having only balanced outputs would limit the customer base. The other Doug

Well then I must have missed that conversation I thought there were still plans on making a DMC-1 replacement it would simply just be a longway out. Sorry about the false info I was giving. LCSeminole: Thanks for the info on the DSD, didnt know about that. So basically with DSD if you have a player with SACD capability all you really need is just an HDMI connection, with that you got your video up to 1080p, good for digital audio with the new formats, and good for SACD no need for analog connections. Sounds good, thanks again.

They haven't stated yet if there will or won't be. It was just a discussion and Lonnie nor Dan confirmed either way.
